If Pascoe keeps trying to play hardball and we miss out on Douehi for the sake of $100k it will be a bad move for the club. He’s an excellent player that hasn’t yet reached his prime. He will increase our chances of making the 8 in 2020. No point going into March with $1m in the bank.

You'd be getting him for under 400k for 2020 as Souths have already paid him 3 months. Assuming the 500k figure is accurate.

Let him train with Souths till March then sign him..will only cost us $330k for 2020....

You’re talking as though they need to let him go. They probably don’t. We’re not doing them a favour taking Doueihi.

You’re right but maybe Doueihi needs to be realistic as well. Either he stays at Souths playing backup and collect $500k for two years stalling his development in the process or he accepts a reduced deal to join the Tigers.

Why should the Tigers be the ones that are wearing everything, by all reports Souths don’t “need” to move him on and would be happy to see him bide his time as backup so maybe it’s Doueihi that needs to give a bit as well.

a player cant reduce their deal, NRL wont allow it

He wouldn’t be reducing it he would be negotiating a new contract and if it were for three seasons that worked out at say $400k per year then no problems with that at all for the NRL.

yes there would, the NRL don't allow it. a player who is already signed for 2020 on $500k can not sign a new contract anywhere for a lesser amount

Pretty sure it's Separate deals...Souff's would have to stump up the difference should it be less...

It's happened before At one stage Todd Payten was being paid by the Raiders Rorters and Us...sweet deal..

You’ve been around a while mate (with all due respect) but didn’t Lawrence have the last year of his contract renegotiated with a new contract for a longer period and a less amount?

Technically Not less.... restructured in the cap allotment ....was signed to a back ended deal so instead of carrying 600K it was spread over 2 years and he got an extra year added on..

It is a paycut though, he received $450k in 2017 as opposed to $600k then had an extra year at $450k as well.

I would think with your user name that you’d know better, he can absolutely agree to a longer contract at a different yearly rate.

ok mate:face_with_rolling_eyes:

Dont you remember? Chris Lawrence had a deal for $400k plus for two more years, he gave up on that, renegotiated, and accepted a 3 year deal for $300k a year. That was about 3 years ago.

Maybe its different if youre switching clubs, or maybe theyve changed the rules, but I haven't heard that they have.

Lawrence was on $600k for 2017 which he renegotiated for $450k for seasons 2017 and 2018.

I stand corrected

I wasn't arguing with you just supporting what you said!

ok mate:face_with_rolling_eyes:

Your namesake did?

mate I can tell you now, it 100% cant happen

Really?

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/wests-tigers-look-to-extend-chris-lawrence-with-revised-deal-20160413-go5m8x.html

Farah is on the best part of $1 million next year, while Lawrence is on $600,000. Those commitments alone make it difficult to retain several off-contract players they want to keep, let alone go into the open market.
While Lawrence is entitled to every cent of his current contract money, the Tigers are hoping he may consider a new deal that guarantees him $450,000 per season for 2017 and 2018.

That deal went through by the way!

you're talking 4 years ago

you've also conveniently left out the part that says the NRL rarely allow it

now they don't, at all

You said they don't allow it, not that the used to allow it? the NRL may rarely allow it but they did with Lawrence so you saying they never allow it is wrong!

you think im talking about everything thats ever happened since 1908?

mate I said it wont be allowed. the article you posted says the club still needed to get it approved. maybe it did happen, I don't know, but a lot can change in 4 years time

hey if you can find it happen again in the next 2 years ill apologise and do what we agreed. that is how confident I am of it not being allowed today

I don’t understand what the problem is? How much is a good specialist full back worth? At $500k he is half the price of Teddy. This is all hustle and jostle. Ok, keep negotiating but get him here before 29th Feb.

He’s not a specialist anything. Prefer aetkins edwards or Meaney at the $200-$350k range for fullback. Better cap hit. Issue is with seeing him as a 5/8 cant really pay him 500k for that as well with reynolds On the books. And can’t play him as a utility with mbye on the books that Would be 1.3 mil on a busted 5/8 and an unproven 5/8 or 1.15 mil on 2 utilities. Would be terrible cap mis management

You’ve got to be kidding me?

Douehi Is Not worth 1/2 million.

Why not?

He’s a utility .... Not a fullback .....
He is currently on a heavily back-ended contract deal with Souths.
Doueihi made his debut for South Sydney in Round 2 of the 2018 NRL season against Penrith. Doueihi made 15 appearances for Souths before suffering a season ending ACL injury. He made he return for South Sydney in Round 12 of the 2019 NRL season.
That’s short career summary hardly reads as an endorsement to pay a player 1/2 mill which Souths would not normally pay him if his contract was not back ended.

Nice summary but did you actually watch him play? Until they signed Mitchell he was going to be fullback this year. He was awesome last year. I suggest you go back and watch some of his games.

When Doueihi was recovering from his ACL Bennett promised him he would have a spot in the team when he was right. He returned to the team and then Bennett told him the #1 was his. AJ was to play wing. At the end of this season you’ll be calling him a specialist Full Back. Lol

Douehi

Yes I watch a lot of games and agree he has potential but at this stage of his career I would not pay 1/2 mil for him. Just me ..... appreciate your interest.

Fair enough, I guess we all view the game differently.

I think it says a lot that Melbourne are also chasing Doueihi as it speaks to his quality. He can play fullback and in the halves. I think him and brooks would be a perfect combination and realistically, who else are we going to land for 1 or 6?

Wonder if Meaney is happy playing on the wing these days

He would be my pick out of all of them. Kid’s a star in the making. I’m sure he’d be happier in the 1 jersey, I hopeWT are looking at trying to lure him from the Dogs.

By the way, who the hell is Aetkins?
