Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Ah what if Harry Grant turns out to be the best new thing ever and we have to hand him back to Melbourne? Don't like that at all.

Harry Grant for Momo - swap deal

Now that makes a bit of sense..

Grant is good in a position we need...

For 12 months? As long as we'd get Momo back I would be OK with that. Grant is highly touted, and it also places less pressure on the club to bring Simpkins in early.

That resolves 3 of the four spine issues. Mbye would likely go back to centre with Thompson at FB.

Decent hooker, halfback and pivot, a serviceable fullback, and an expensive Mbye playing in a role where he's gone OK. Momo gets a year under Bellamy, and will almost certainly come back a better player and Melbourne get a centre and a hooker returning with a year of first grade under his belt.

Everyone wins. WT would have to extend Momo first though to ensure he returns.

I'm a real fan of Momo and his potential, so a bit sad we won't see him run out for us this season. And tbh I'd be surprised if he comes back as he is off-contract.

If this helps bring JAC here in anyway then it's bloody great.

Could this explain why some are suggesting we're enquiring around Aitken? Mbye back to 1, Grant to 9, Leilua and Aitken in the centres?

Leilua acquisition is highly questionable.
Mybe at fullback smells of stop gap.
Aitkins is not coming
Grant - will don't know about him.

No. (Your kidding)
No. (One bad season and ready for the scrap heap LOL)
How the would you know?
Exactly

Yes.. loose cannon - brain explosions, ugly on-field incident with one of the Morris brothers - Ricky had enough?
Mybe - Stop gap doesn't mean scrap heap. Not too difficult to comprehend.
Aitkins - look at a post here last night about it.
Grant - exactly what?

$327k is the median of the salary cap, but not necessarily the average salary. Without accurate salary figures it’s difficult to determine the average as it depends on how many players on a roster are earning overs and unders and by what margins. I’m guessing the average salary would be lower than $327k considering marquee players take up large portions of the cap - it would be interesting to know…

No I'm pretty sure you are not correct. Assuming the club spends 100% of its salary cap (I think they have to spent at minimum 90%?) then the average salary is, by definition, $9.8M divided by 30, for each and every club. We know these parameters to be set and not dependent on an individual allocation of funds.

The median is actually the calculation that is impacted by significant individual salaries, because it's the "middle value" of the set.

So for instance, an imaginary pool of 10 players
1, 1, 1, 1, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.2, 0.2 --N = 10, sum = 6.4, median = 0.5, average = 0.64
1, 0.9, 0.9, 0.9, 0.7, 0.6, 0.5, 0.4, 0.3, 0.2 --N = 10, sum = 6.4, median = 0.7, average = 0.64

Note how the median is skewed in the first set because of the uneven distribution of funds, even though the top 4 players are on almost the same money.

You are correct!

Moses Mbye: 65/100, 65.00%

Sorry but thats just not good enough for a first grade kicker....Benji goes better than that.

Benji Marshall: 402/565, 71.15%

Heard we were after Harry Grant like 3 weeks ago, wasn’t sure if it was true or not so I’m assuming the club has been trying to get this done for a while now and the Momo loan deal was the only way to make it happen!

Gonna be pretty depressing watching him kill it then have to pack his bags up and go back to Melbourne.....

Yeah but we're banking on Simpkin stepping into the gap.

Mbye was 77% when he kicked for us last year but I understand your concerns. I think Marshall's hammy's are why he stopped kicking.

What the hell is a one year player swap. Especially when Momo is off contract. I swear, this game is passing my by.

This could be the transaction that seriously opens the trade window that’s been talked about for years.
As a professional sport the game needs that kind of intrigue and flexibility for clubs. I’ve been advocating it for years and a lot of coaches are for it. The Nrl is full of prehistoric dinosaurs who are holding the game back

This is interesting...
Melb and Tigers working together eh.

Madge and Bellamy are friends hey.

Works well for football.

I love this idea. The game needs innovation to create interest, and if clubs don't cooperate then there will be more heartbreak through mergers, relocations and clubs folding sooner or later. Please confident it will happen though. Please see the statement from the superleague in the Falau thread. They have what appears to be a clear policy for determining what they can veto and what independence the clubs get. The NRL lacks any clear governance, everything is up to that moron with a solar panel for a head. They will probably find a way to sink the deal.

In other leagues around the world deals like this are common. I believe the NFL even share merch sales revenue to an extent (correct me if I'm wrong).

As for Momo, I like him, but only as a centre. Leilua, Talau, Mbye and another possible signing would be the best depth we have had at centre in a long time.

A lot of people critical of the club based on media reports this off-season.

Fair enough, but unless we sign Momo for 2021, how is he coming back?

Good one...didnt know that about Bunji. Im worried about Momo going as i had him penned in as our kicker, looked to be striking them really well....Now we are relyiing on stop gap kickers.
