Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Can I ask what is wrong with building our juniors? How is it that the Sydney Swans are able to build with their juniors? Is it a club culture problem?
I will wait to see how the signings work. 😱pen_mouth: 😱pen_mouth: :nerd:

In 2015 the Tigers strategic plan had, amongst other things, a target of 12 Local Juniors in Fulltime squad by 2017\. I'm not sure if we made that quota. I asked as part of the members Q & A if that target was reached and if it still was a target in future. It wasn't answered so I have emailed Justin Pascoe directly and will let you know if I get a reply.

Even our NSW Cup side's backline has improved dramatically

First grade:

3\. Taane Milne
4\. Moses Suli
5\. Curtis Rona
6\. Josh Reynolds
7\. Luke Brooks

Second Grade:

1\. Tom Satherwaite
2\. Corey Thompson
3\. Mahe Fonua
4\. Nathan Milone
5\. Malakai Watene-Zelezniak
6\. Tyson Gamble
7\. Jordan Marshall-King

Are we going to fuse Jordan Rankin and Jeremy Marshall-King together?

Ah, that is right. We have Jeremy now.

Jordan is the older brother.

Wow, both teams look quite strong, Finally :righton:

Just who is Tom Satherwaite, and do you guys rate him?

So Jamal is completely off the radar?

Writing is on the wall for Idrs….. kevin to.

I would keep Idris if fit for an explosive back rower

The sale will happen. The Dogs are 2mill over the forecast cap and the Raiders are 1.5mill over

. Shannon Boyd
. Junior Paulo
. Josh Papalii
. Elliot Whitehead
. Iosia Solioai
. Nick Cotric

Thank you very much

Solioai and Joseph Tapine would be nice. No way will Sticky let Cotric leave.

Raiders also have Brent Naden who was spoken of highly at the Panthers.

Now that's not a bad idea! Especially if we don't end up signing another back rower. Even with the addition of McQueen, it's still a weak spot in the team, imo. We need some firepower there and fully fit Idris could provide that.

Against parramatta idris was on fire. His big hits in defence got the crowd roaring. As a second rower coming of the bench i think he would be great. I reckon he would be a bargsin aswell.

What's the point of developing juniors if in four years when they start to come good they leave us? Might as well sign players who are already as that level

That's not always how it works out. If you get to the juniors first, you have a good chance of keeping them for less money, especially if they are legitimately your own juniors.

A mix is good.

Idris is a zero risk option for next year and could be a handy impact forward if he gets his match fitness sorted.. I still see us signing another couple of 'squeezed out' forwards too

Backs seem like they're mostly sorted, so onto the last few forwards. The market for 2nd rowers has dried up with Elliott now signed with the Dogs as well as reports that Harawira-Naera (Panthers) and Guerra (to Knights) are no longer available. Remaining options are:
- Luke Lewis
- Jai Arrow
- Alex Glenn
- Ryan Hoffman
- Bodene Thompson

I can't see Lewis, Arrow or Glenn leaving their current clubs. Hoffman or Thompson we could probably get off the Warriors as they look to refresh their pack, but it's a question of whether we would want them. Bodene was in great form last year and scored quite a few tries off Johnson short balls. He was also a defensive workhorse averaging over 38 tackles per game (1.8 missed) - a huge average for an edge defender (Gillett by comparison averaged 37.7 tackles with 2.9 missed). Bodene's defensive stats for this year aren't all that bad but having watched quite a few Warriors games some of his misses have been shockers. He's also been lazy and ineffective in attack. I think he can probably turn his form around outside of the Warriors environment and if they don't offer him a contract I think it'd be worth out while to throw him a lifeline. Not big money at all, just a chance.

In the prop department there are still a few decent looking options:
- Brenton Lawrence (will be 33 with a history of back problems - risky)
- Morgan Boyle
- Patrick Kaufusi (would be coming off a season ending injury - some risk)
- Joe Ofahengaue (linked with Warriors)
- Agnatius Paasi (possibly taken up and option to stay with GC)
- Albert Vete (was linked to the Warriors but no recent talk)
- Toafofoa Sipley (linked with Manly)
- Sam Tagataese

I think any of the above would be a decent addition and a genuine bench option (or starting lock in the case of Paasi). Paasi, Boyle or Kaufusi would be my preference.

Nice Post….

Lewis then Thompson (out of form yes but a quality player) as back rowers..either of Passi Boyle or Sipley (I like this kid) as Props...

You need to build a top line NRL side which means that any lower grade player (junior) trying to get promoted will have to be really good to make it. Up until now we have had to build our NRL side around potential rather than merit, meaning that we don't have enough quality NRL players to mentor the good juniors.

I see this changing from next year onwards.

If we signed Alex Glen.
Jordan Kahu would follow.
