Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Can I ask what is wrong with building our juniors? How is it that the Sydney Swans are able to build with their juniors? Is it a club culture problem?
I will wait to see how the signings work. 😱pen_mouth: 😱pen_mouth: :nerd:

We tried that… Until the NRL makes it attractive to do so there isn't much value in it.

I'd love us to get Rona as well. If we can add another forward after that it would be great. I figure fullback is the position that we could have problems with but hopefully I have that completely wrong.

I can't wait until next season.

I'd still love for us to sign someone like James Roberts just to have that real explosive pace in the backline which I don't think any of our recent or potential (ie Rona) signings possess.

Great in concept. But why develop juniors so they can seek more lucrative contracts elsewhere once they hit their stride?

The AFL has a draft rather than the jr pathway of the NRL.
The AFL also has stipulations in place to ensure that players drafted/developed by clubs are tied to the club for a decent amount of time, rather than the free for all we have in the NRL.

What's the point of developing juniors if in four years when they start to come good they leave us? Might as well sign players who are already as that level

There will still be juniors coming through as per usual. Not many will make it to NRL level and fewer will be regular first graders.

The Wests Tigers mistake was putting two juniors in the halves at the same time.

I think Brooks will be much better in his two remaining years. An experienced halves partner and a no nonsense pack of forwards is something he hasn't had much of previously.

Totally agree with you there Earl. Rona would be a big tick, one more solid powerful forward would leave us in a very good position coming into July 2017\. It would mean we would already have a solid team with depth. And we would still have money in the bank to sign any squeeze out superstars before the 2018 season.
I to have concerns about fullback , but posters (on here) that have actually had a good look at Lolohea are excited by his signing for 2018.

3\. Taane Milne
4\. Moses Suli
5\. Curtis Rona
6\. Josh Reynolds
7\. Luke Brooks

Second Grade:

1\. Tom Satherwaite
2\. Corey Thompson
3\. Mahe Fonua
4\. Nathan Milone
5\. Malakai Watene-Zelezniak

Just who is Tom Satherwaite, and do you guys rate him?

Don't the interstate clubs get some sort of priority for juniors from their state?

I hear James Roberts is unsigned for next year…

Now for the next batch of rumours… Think most that were hinted are now signed up by wt. Rona obviously a new one - maybe it'll go quite until the cap for 2018 is set

I hope not. Unlike our 2017 season, our recruitment drive is the only thing keeping me sane

So Jamal is completely off the radar?

If Rona gets on the bus you have a guy who can cover fullback, centre and wing.
