Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I am going to go against all those saying we wouldn't want Kevin Procter. He would be a great signing imo

What does he bring - Experience, Professionalism, great defence, leadership

Our forward pack for next year has no one over the age of 25 - we need what he brings. We will be loosing a great deal of experience in lawrence, ET, McQueen, Eisenhuth and prob Packer if we find a buyer plus Marshall so we need experience and leadership

He is the current NZ secondrower with 200+ games of FG and we don't have 2 FG class 2nd rowers. We have been playing Lawrence, Garner, Sam MciNtyre in our back row and you don't want a an NRL captain, current NZ rep 2nd rower known for his professionalism , great attitude and to be one of the hardest trainers around.

Im not saying he is what he was at Storm but thats not what we are after either - although his stats at Titans are the same as at Storm except he makes a few more tackles and 1 less run because they have less ball.

he might not be the best 2nd rower in the comp now but he is better then any of ours

Professionalism?

He took the Gold Coast's money, became a captain...and basically semi retired.

Soon after becoming captain he gets done for coke

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-04-11/rugby-league-players-snorting-cocaine-caught-on-video/9638676

He has basically phoned it in since joining the Titans.

By playing more minutes, making more runs and more tackles at over 90% effectiveness then he did at Storm

Yep he has given up like last year when he played 53 minutes for them with a fractured eye socket

Question for those strongly against the idea of signing Proctor.

Would you prefer Lawrence Or McIntyre instead of Proctor?

Lawrence and McIntyre shouldn’t be the benchmark tho.....

True. And I haven't seen McIntyre yet, so I don't think it's fair to compare to him.
I'd prefer Proctor over Lawrence though if he came at a good price.

Okay, then what do you do if someone like Kikau/Bateman/Pangai won't sign with us unless we offer them 1.1M+ per season for a 4-5 year contract.

You either pay massive overs, or look for gradual improvements so that the big fish become easier to sign.

Here's a thought, we're paying $800k for a ver limited half and $300k plus for Mcqueen. At $1m for Pagai or Kikau is value.

We let Matterson go and i am sure Parra are in the ear of Stefano and i expect a backflip to come so why cant we get in Grant's ear, Momo i dont worry so much as we have Tommy "second coming " Talau who everyone seems to rate so he should be able to tske Mmbye's spot if he has to.
We abre naive if we dont think that talking to players to backflip doesnt happen... look at Teddy and the Raiders

Because we’ve spent the last year saying how it was a low act how Parra signed Matterson. Now we should do the same?

I'm talking over $1M and $1.1M +. Who's to say they don't come here at that price and flop (see Adam Blair) especially given the pressure they would be under coming in with a $1.1M price tag. That's a lot of money tied up on a backrower.

IMHO, only a few players deserve 1M: Taumalolo, Tedesco, and Pongia.

So you'd be happy to spend 500k for 3years on a washed up has been? You have seen our recruitments in the past right? Proctor is a MASSIVE no.

I gotta say that attitude is poor. Justifying low character decisions because other low characters do it too. There’s a way to do it and a way not to . Enticing a player to backflip whilst you’re conducting a revolutionary loan deal , is definitely not the way. But hey , when it happens to us again I’m sure all you guys will scream bloody murder. The hypocrisy is real.

I'm sure when Grant goes back to Melbourne or another club grab him (because we didn't try to keep him) and he turns out to be a real superstar.

Everyone will be saying "Good on the Tigers, that had principals, haven't got a decent DH but they did what was right by the NRL."

Bad luck the NRL never do the right thing by the Tigers.

Wake up mate - this is war!

You wake up ! It’s this very attitude why the system is broken. You don’t have to be a piece of crap. You can choose to operate in a way that’s fair yet still aggressive in recruitment and retention. This is what irritates me about rugby league in general “it’s war” LOL.
Hot tip , it’s not war . It’s business. Every other sport can operate in a way that’s respectful , to all the parties .
It’s this backwards , tribal , 1970s type thinking that holds the sport back . Loans should have happened 30 years ago . Trades should be happening . We should be sitting here talking about trade packages for Addo Carr . Or potential landing spots for some of our players. But nope , we talk about sabotaging a loan agreement .

That's extremely naive thinking. And the type of thinking that doesn't make the finals. Nice guys finish last. You think the Roosters are nice guys? Storm?

And you also have to wake up that there's no sabotage, it's business, and what's in his contract. It's fair play and us aggressively pursuing a fine young player. Nothing more.

That is a risk. We've experienced that to various degrees with Reynolds, McQueen and Packer. Do we want another Mcqeen episode in buying a 31 year old second row forward when the new rules mean the game is much faster and forwards need to be at the top of their game? I would question the direction of the club if this is the best we can come up with.

With Kikau and Pangai Junior, they are aggressive x factor type forwards who can be game changers. At his best, Proctor is a workaholic forward and that in itself isan issue. We need s balance pack of workers and dynamic forwards.

Yeah I'd be happy to pass on 30+ year olds unless they are exeptional. Experience is great, but there is plenty of experience running around at 26-27 years of age.

30+year old players looking to top up there super are par for course at this club, top flight current soo players do not sign with us because of the clubs reputation add to that they are highly unlikely to play finals but we hope like always

Good on Rankin
He will do something Nofo probably wont and that is play in a semi final
Even our most hated player in Jennings has played semi final football
good luck Rankin good back up player
