What does Papenhuyzen have to do to convince some on the forum he us the real deal? When Mitchell was SG Ball player of the year, he was HM player of the year. Aust Schools, NSW under age and Storm No 1. Thought of highly by Slater, one of the best ever.

We got Lolohea, the Storm Papenhuyzen. Which club can pick talent?

Let’s not forget almost every club in the league didn’t want to sign him either. Storm got him as their third string fullback and he only get a run due to injuries. He’s done well since then but knowing every club turned him down makes me feel a little better about us letting him go, plus we thought Teddy was staying

Korobeite, JAC and Papenhuyzen. There is a pattern that we don't like pacey backs at WTs. No sir, the slug brigade will do just fine.

None of them WANTED to stay - you just can't seem to comprehend that.

Maybe we need to chain some players to the Latchem Robinson stand - then you won't have to have a go at the club all the time.

Did anyone bother with an exit interview to ask why three very talented players wanted to leave? It appears the Club put all its efforts into the Tedesco basket and we know how that ended.

I note your comment about Hodgson. He was a solid club footballer, nothing more. He will always be remembered for the Tallis tackle. Garry Jack was way above Hodgson and despite him not being at the club, it would be nice to see Pspenhuyzen folliw in his footsteps.

If all you only remember is the Tallis tackle...

Maybe you should go back and watch a few games leading to the finals and the finals in 2005 if you think he was just a sold club footballer.

And yeah! Tallis was a big man - ragdolling Hodgo.

Notice he didn't do that to Skandalis or "The Whiteanter.

In 2005 (at least) Hodgson was much more than a solid club footballer. Definite matchwinner. Papenhyzen not even close to him at this stage as an all-round player.

We all have rose coloured glasses on when it comes to our favourite players. I get it and being a good club footballer is a great achievement. Very few can make it to the top. Jack did and so did Brasher. Both played for Wests and Balmain and achieved higher honours because they were supremely talented.

Playing with higher honours is a great achievement indeed ..however neither won a Premiership with their respective Clubs..

Brett Hodgson did..no matter either way you cut it Hodgson was a major contributor to that..

That is true Geo and a risk you always take when playing for less powerful clubs.

I have a high opinion of Hogdson as a good club footballer. That is a great achievement.

I recall a bloke with great knowledge of the Illawarra juniors telling me how hard Jack worked to increase his pace with a sprint trainer in Wollongong. He realised playing for the Dapto Canaries was very different to Wests.

At Leichhardt, I recall watching two outstanding talents play in reserve grade, Wests v Balmain. Jack was the Wests fullback and another Wollongong product, the Aust Schools 5/8, John Sparks for Balmain. Sparks made this.great break of 60 or 70 metres and was tackled over the touchline just short of a try by Jack. I thought both would be internationals. Sparks went back to Wollongong Uni to study but that brilliant play remains with me.

If we are looking for a young half Sam Walker is one to look out for.
Pretty sure he is on the Roosters books and will turn 18 later this year. Is another young QLDer (we seem to be collecting them atm). Be a hard task prying him away from the Roosters but would be a big coup.
Has shades of Dylan Brown.

Underrated comment....

Sam Walker is an absolute weapon, huge wraps on him one of the best NRL prospects the game has to offer!

He’s 18 but soon will be trying to push for first grade, honestly has the potential to be the best halfback in the game he’s that good

Keary only 28
Flanagan like 21

Don’t see either of them going anywhere to facilitate Walker and even if so I’d jump at either of those players too

If Madge is really eyeing young talent I’m sure he’s considering Sam Walker

I think he would compliment Brooks well and he would be the dominant half. Bloke comes from NRL pedigree so he should have all the tools to be a great game manager, then let Brooks play off the cuff and be the secondary play maker.
You're right the Roosters will have to let one of the 3 go. I don't think Flanagan is all he is cracked up to be but he is just 21.

Billy Walters has taken up his player option for 2021 and will remain at WT (SMH)

Good, he might surprise given a chance at his natural position, at the very least he can cover the halves next year instead of Benji, and can cover hooker as well, hope he kills it tomorrow

I would like a Brooks Walters combo

So would I, or at least give them a chance to show what they can do, it would change our recruitment if it works

JAC snuck off out the back door while our CEO was on holidays. I'm sure an interview would of been forthcoming if JAC had waited for Pascoe to return (like he was reportedly asked to do). If a rat wants to do the dirty and scurry away under the cover of darkness there is not much you can do to stop it.

Really leaving a player of his quality unsigned when Bellamy is around is asking for that to occur. We failed to secure him.

JAC was a Reserve Grader when he came to us. And he was yet to even make his first grade debut when he signed with Storm. It was early in the season also. Blame whoever on our side signed him up for one season instead of two.

I’m not sure we even went after him, his name didn’t even get mentioned once. Bulldogs paid massive overs for a winger/centre and with their poor spine he probably won’t even do that well there. Would’ve liked him here though for sure.

Sam apparently was offered a Broncos scholarship since the age of 12 his contract ran out when he was 17 - the the Roosters flew out to meet him with Politis, Robinson and Keary all to convince him to sign with them and sold him a picture of him to partner Keary in the halves - they then went on to sign Flanagan on a 2 year deal (assuming for the 2 years to prepare Walker) but Flanno has catched on I really like him as a player tbh and he’s off contract end of next year can talk to clubs in November so it’ll be interesting to see what happens there

To have that sort of treatment from the best clubs in the NRL at such a young age tells you the raw talent he has, either one would have to be available soon you’d have to think and if we were smart we’d monitor the situation carefully

True he was a loss, but when we lost him, all he had at that stage was potential, which as we all know can go either way. We signed him from Sharks only a few months before. I wouldn't say a great loss, that's Tedesco.

But it's done now, and we may as well focus on who we can attract from other clubs, who we can get so they say it's a great loss for them.

JAC left us and put on a stack of weight which gave him a lot more confidence under the high ball. He also benefited from a rule change after leaving, when the refs would not allow you drag a player back into the in goal from a certain distance/when the deemed the tackle complete.
When he played for us he would routinely be picked up from the 5m line and taken into the in goal. That is why eventually Rankin became the preferred choice, at the time it actually made sense. In hindsight we botched it badly.

Yeah they’re all over him - the problem is I don’t think they expected Flanagan to catch on this well he’s really impressing me as a half at 21 even just the ball he threw last night (if anyone watched the game) shows he has that confidence and maturity most young halves struggle to obtain - and he’s an excellent goal kicker also

Don't get me wrong Flanagan isn't terrible, he is a great support runner goal kicks at a good clip and isn't a defensive liability, he reminds me of a Mitchell Pearce 2.0 without the weight of expectation.

Honestly I know we’re Wests Tigers fans, but can anyone blame him for leaving at that point of time especially when the club chasing you is Melbourne Storm - Jason Taylor vs Craig Bellamy (I know where I’m most likely to play my best football) I remember Taylor use to pick Rankin over him most weeks for gods sake, along with the fact we were always in the news for all the wrong reasons etc

One benefit of Dogs signing Cotric means they’ll be out of the race for JAC, gives us a better chance of signing him

I think we are a better chance of signing every NRL player in the Universe...until they sign somewhere else..
