Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Do we actually have any solid links to any players ahead of Sundays deadline?

It's hard being on the other side of the world and missing out on so many articles. I use this forum as my main source of information but I never actually know what links have got legs in it or if certain players mentioned are just a suggestion that people would like to see us bring in (e.g Munster).

We have 30 players in our squad, I doubt we sign someone else. Any signings we make from now will probably be for next year

didnt Harry T try to do something a few years back with Meriton in relation to third party deals and the nrl ruled he couldnt be a tpa as he was too close or attached to the WT's i think this was just after brydens took over sponsorship

Harry's support of the tigers is weak. I'll give him credit for providing sponsorship to the club when they couldn't get any, but I don't think the deals were ever big money and he's let Balmain get merged, the leagues club fold and then Balmain die. Maybe he does stuff behind the scenes for us but it seems more that he likes to attract a lot of public attention for meagre offerings and doesn't mind seeing his supposedly beloved club die. I'm not blaming him for Balmain's death but he didn't help when surely they were desperate and asking.

Mate you are shooting your mouth off, and do not know the story.

How many millions did you want him to tip in? He was the major sponsor
for Wests Tigers for many years.

He wanted to help out with the Leagues Club Upgrade, but Balmain did not
want him to be part of it. They instead chose to go with "Backdoor Benny"
and his associates and get totally rorted.

He was always really a "Balmain side of it" sponsor, they snubbed their
nose at him.

Personally I don't blame him for snubbing them back.

However you go on casting black net on the Harry's name.

This is correct. If Balmain had accepted Harry's offer, they would have a Leagues Club at Rozelle now and Balmain would be alive and kicking. Potentially a larger WT partner and financial support from Balmain Leagues.

Not Harry's fault.

Get all club payments and TPA to go through the NRL, (so they will actually be real TPAs) and then focus on reducing the corruption within the NRL itself (because no plan is perfect and I bet there will be dodgy deals done there).

They do all go through the NRL - all TPAs are reported and ratified by the NRL. So are all contracts, registered with NRL. NRL knows exactly who is getting what.

If you are talking about the unofficial "shadowy" brown paper bag backdoor carpark deals, there's nothing the NRL can do without evidence.

If I choose to "gift" Harry Grant a brand new house and I have no official affiliation with the Tigers apart from being a fan, there's nothing the NRL can do. Any club with heavy-hitting supporters are going to see that clout impact the roster.

Hold on... that is only idealistic and simply not real life!

A proper TPA exists so that the player can market themselves, regardless of team.
So, in your example the brand new house is a gift from a fan of Harry Grant the NRL star, irrespective of who he plays for.
But we know that's not how the gift works.
In reality, Harry Grant would only get that brand new house on the condition that he plays for WT. And it's not from just a fan; it comes from a corporation who is not at all at arms length from employees of the club. But we all know this! @jirskyr you are not that naIve... come on!

Ok, then lets go back to the original case that prompted TPA rules. Craig Wing was doing modelling, independent of RL because he was a good looking bloke. He also got a gig on Foxtel Fashion TV due to this link. Roosters had that money taken out of their salary cap and Wing was going to be forced out because of it.

That is a good example of why the players independent IP & brand is important and IMO fair enough liberty to have. I dont know what you do for a living or what skills you have but if your employer tried to prevent you from ever earning any money outside of your employment, how fair would you feel that is?

Adam Elliot would be a good forward leader for our younger boys. Would likely thrive under Madge’s style as well.

Would be good for sure. The Mole says dragons are favourites to get him. They’ll probably offer him good money too.

Backdoor Benny needs to walk out the backdoor and just keep on walking and never come back near or talk about the WT ever again

Just a total germ like his nephew

In fact pawwa is full of germs so Benny might actually be welcome there

Than he go about his usual devious ways and destroy that club

It's like Rusty flying kids up to his property at Nana Glen and showing them his oscars, when Pascoe asks the same kid to come to the demountables and they can have a popper whilst they wait. It's not a perfectly even comp and we should never expect it.

Roosters will see their empire fall, it's inevitable, people will move on, players retire, they won't be able to sustain the magic roster year on year.

Good Post

Wendell on MMM mentioned as a throw away line that back in the day, players at the broncos mysteriously had their mortgages paid off....

Again I remind the forum that the only clubs caught systemically rorting the Cap were dobbed in...

Cade Cust has agreed to terms with Manly, but is yet to sign a contract according to The Mole, which means clubs can still offer him contracts. Maybe we are going after him
