Crazy idea and probably a bad one but hear me out. We have young halves coming through but probably not ready yet, we have many halves in the squad so it would be a waste to sign another one next year.
With Brooks at 6, I wonder if it’s worth giving Mbye a go at 7 next year. He’s our captain, a natural half and maybe putting him there might bring the best out of him by giving him that responsibility.
Yep absolutely crazy idea, you got that right. Mybe is a natural nothing. I would say being at 9 this week is probably Mbye’s last chance. The next step is out of here. Mybe is a sympathy Captain, that’s all. Should never have been appointed captain and inspires absolutely no one.
Yeah Madge definitely seems the kind of coach to give the captaincy out of sympathy and not hard work
At best maybe Madge may have been hoping it would encourage Mbye to go to the next level. It has had the exact opposite effect. Mybe would have to be one of, if not the worst captain Wests Tigers has ever had.
Mbye is captain of a club who is slowly turning their culture around and he’s part of that whether You like it or not. As a player he’s not been that good, but it’s hilarious when people think that Madge would’ve picked someone out of pity. Madge makes selections off hard work and as fans we’ll never see what happens behind the scenes that influenced Madge’s choice.
Mbye is a dud. Full stop.
Offers no leadership qualities whatsoever out on the field. He's a mute.
That experiment has failed, time to change.
As much as Scott Prince turned maggot the way he left our club, as a captain he was great. Always pushing, barking at teammates to keep the effort up- even in games we were winning comfortably. He was always striving for more out of them. I haven't seen Mbye say boo out on the field this year at least.
It’s almost like a half has to bark orders all game. Can’t say I see many centres doing that much talking out on the field. Clearly Mbye leads where it counts besides on the field, the fans see about 10% of everything the players do. Madge doesn’t pick someone as captain for no reason, he trusts Mbye to help rebuild the club and change the culture.
Madge makes mistakes, he’s normal like everyone else. Just like the Jennings signing making Mbye captain was a mistake by Madge.
