We have 10 or so players off contract so spots are available.

We have 25 signed up for next year, including 4 development players from this year and Momers.

We are talking of extending McIntyre and Eisenhuth, which makes 27 with only 3 vacancies to fill.

Not so much scope to upgrade the squad as many people think. We will have the capacity to significantly upgrade the squad for 2022.

I doubt that all current development players will auto migrate to top 30 squad next year.

It seems like they’re all already contracted for next year to be in the top 30. Would have to find another club and be granted a release if we were to get rid of them

As far as I know they are on contracts but they are development contracts that span more than one year.

Check your facts .... Hoffman is still on development contract next year. Madden and Simpkin are not and will probably join top 30 however Madden has had some interest elsewhere. As for Bradley and Cini they have one year contract next year but they are on minimal $s and can be easily paid out to create cap space.

I'd be hanging on to Madden. We need to encourage and sustain the lower ranking players. I know we cant keep them al but recall the Papenhausen / Tedesco situation and how well that tiurned out for us. If we get Sezer or soeone else as a halfback replacement for Brooks we still need an understudy.

We seem to have painted ourselves in a corner with these development signings. Makes sense for Simpkin to come into the top 30 but Cini and Bradley look like wasted spots given they don't look close to first grade. Madden as well, unsure where he fits given all the halves we already have.

Some of them have been good, some just a waste. You have to be really certain your development players will kick on otherwise you’re stuck with them in your top 30 for a year.

Madge seems to be only picking pretty highly rated kids as his development players. Maybe next year we will have less of them. I like the system though it’s a great way to get young kids with potential at your club and training with the top squad

We need to start doing what the other clubs are doing and sign our second string backups on dev contracts.

If he shows he is a fullback, take up the option, if not renegotiate

Yeah, I'm not a fan of players unproven in a position saying they want to be signed as a "Fullback" for example. They need to earn that position and playing a certain position when younger doesn't count.

Sounds like he wants a pay rise. In view of a couple of the overpaid prima donnas we have here, I've no issue paying a proven match winning SOO and Origin rep.

Maybe but I wouldn't be paying him FB money when he is a winger.

He would have to earn FB for mine (in cc) or we would end up with another Latrine (a centre trying to play FB).

The future of Melbourne Storm’s Origin and Kangaroos winger Josh Addo-Carr will be sorted out in the next couple of weeks. It looks a two-horse race between the two sides that played yesterday – the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Wests Tigers.

From Buzz Rothfield this morning. He’s a moron but his mail is normally pretty decent.

Buzz on BSB mentioned we are desperately trying to move on a player to fit him in.
Mentioned squad numbers more so than cap space.
It was said in a way that it seems both parties are keen on the signing.

That doesn't make sense. Considering it's for next year you just rearrange your top 30 to fit him in. We have 10 or so players off contract so spots are available.

Also mentioned that squads are likely to be reduced to 28 in the same conversation.
Hence the need to move on players.

Problem is they can’t play until round 16, exception was made this year because of COVID.

Thanks for the information. We have a few good young halves in the lower grades. Is it likely he will be released?

I'd like him to stay as he will be a good partner for Brooks. Everyone who doesn't rate him should take note.

If we miss out on Addo-Carr and he goes to the Bulldogs, we should sign Nick Meaney purely as a goal kicker. He's lightning quick and can fill wing or fullback. He's looked pretty good for them at the back, and we were interested in signing him from Newcastle and missed out.

Understand JAC is a risk, but one I'm happy for the club to take. Hope it's not for fullback though, I don't think he has the ball skills for it.

Why Douelhi at 6? I like him at 1. Yesterday he missed a chance to put Benji under the sticks. He had his head down but did create the opportunity from fullback. I believe he will develop into a v/good fullback. He's also very tough.

In light of recent media speculation about our available cap, I am not sure we will be able to buy a better fullback than AD for next season. I think he is generally improving each week and am prepared to give him more time. Also I believe a greater priority is a replacement 6 or 7 and a good outside back/winger. We also need one more experienced middle (a forward leader) and a good ball playing edge runner-these guys need to be hard types who are goers and play at 110% (other top 8 sides have these guys).
After consideration and looking at the group of players coming off contract at WTs this season - I would let them all go (including Huth), except for McIntyre.

Problem is they can’t play until round 16, exception was made this year because of COVID.

Ahh yes they can, if you don’t have a specialist to play that role.
Verrils for instance played earlier than the mid year because Radley isn’t an 80min hooker.
Teams use them for cover only. And cover is what those signings would be useful for.
