Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Can't wait till this season is over and done with. Worst ever since supporting the magpies through the late 80's and late 90's.
Looking forward to a few more signings before start of 2018 season. Some forwards please Ivan.
So when does cricket season start?

Wasn’t a supporter in the early 80’s, for any Magpie who survived 1984 this year is just a minor hurdle.

From my calculations we have 24 confirmed seats on the bus with both Elijah Taylor and Tim Grant having options to stay in 2018\. So if you include Taylor and Grant we have 26 seats filled for 2018.

Four seats left to fill.

Strong rumours from all media outlets that Connor Watson is on the bus and if true leave 3 seats.

In my opinion we require one prop, one second rower and a winger to complete the bus.

Still some props on the market but second rowers appear hard to come by.

I hope we either secure Tapou or Rona for the wing spot.

How do you come to that? Who have I missed?

19\. Esan Masters
20\. Malakai Watene-Zelezniak
21\. Corey Thompson
22\. Tyson Gamble

23\. Elijah Taylor (option?)
24\. Tim Grant (option?)

OFF CONTRACT
Kevin Niaqama
Matt Eisenhuth
Joel Edwards
Watson Heleta
Justin Hunt
Jack Littlejohn
Kyle Lovett
Junior Tatola
Bayley Sironen

Still need alot more signings to compete with the top teams

Based on above we will have room for another 7 assuming Grant leaves and ET extends. If we land Watson & Rona we will have cap room for another 5 players.
I would look at 2 props (Vete, Ofehengaue) 2 backrowers (Boyle, B Thompson) and a centre (Roberts)

That would be a solid squad.

Might be hard to fit all that under the cap

Ok here's a fun fact .. Roosters have 0 TPAs.
Here's a second fun fact… Tigers top 25 top Tier salary cap includes:
Robbie Farah
**Tim Simona**
Mitchell Moses
Curtis Sironen
Matt Ballin.

Tim Simona is not on our cap. He had his contract terminated, which means we don't owe him anything, and his salary was removed from the cap. So we actually came into this season with a top 24

Moses requested a release. We are not paying Moses anything

I would say that Melbourne and other top clubs have the luxury of fielding certain one-dimensional players.

In terms of defence, high ball, return metres in early tackles I consider JAC to be average. He obviously excels in open space and finishing.

Nofo is similarly flawed, not great on defence or kick defence but top-notch in DH runs and finding the corner in traffic.

Difference being that JAC can be the icing on a Storm cake, Nofo is currently leaned on as a key ingredient in the WT cake itself. If JAC and Nofo make a mistake, I back Melbourne a much greater chance to defend that mistake than Tigers.

You're right there, jirskyr but Russell was comparing JAC to Rankin - and choosing Superstar Rankin.

I was, on the game that I saw JAC play for the Storm. I then stated that JAC's performance in that game made Rankin look like a superstar. Fail to see what the problem is.

The problem is that you're wrong. Rankin is as bog average as it gets

Spot on, to say Rankin is better than JAC is really unbelievable.
If Rankin was any ways good he wouldn't be heading back to the ESL, we or should I say JT was the only coach to think he was any good and brought him back, no one else wanted him, not even Ivan, so back he goes to the ESL.

You really need to get over the Rankin and JT complex. You're starting to sound like Anasta :deadhorse:

The mid 80's were a horror run for wests, in 1982 we made the top 5, then sometime in 1983 the league got a great idea to kick us out of the comp, Rick Wayde and the club spent good deal of time fighting the NSWRL.
They were not good days, but the team while poor were at least having a dig, seems like our current mob are not always having a go though.

You really need to but out, someone brought it up about Rankin, so what I can never comment, get real

You're missing the point. Let's try break it down.

Moses played for Wests Tigers this year

Moses gets paid money to play.

Therefore, Wests Tigers paid Moses money this year.

Therefore part of Moses' salary has come out of Wests Tigers 2017 cap.

Yes, we are NOT paying Moses now or in future, but the money we paid for Moses up until he was released has come out of this years cap. Make sense?
Same goes for Ballin, Rankin and Simona.

Indeed it would, but I would like us to re-sign Eisenhuth as well. I think there could be a great comeback story with this fellow.

Same here. Hopefully we can get him signed for another two seasons at least

I see Eisenhuth as a younger version of Heigno. You'd definitely re-sign him and I would be shocked if he wouldn't repay our faith in him by re-signing for 2 years. After that I wouldn't be outraged if he chased cash if it was on offer due to his career starting so late

Keep in mind that's assuming that ALL our signings are top 30\. This may not be the case and pending future signings, some of these signings might actually be second tier.

The whole point of having a top 30 is to reduce the need for a second tier, which would be more for juniors. So any of these players could play without issues with the cap. All of these signings would be top 30.
