At the end of the day the players are contracted for another year or 2. Unless someone comes along and wants them it will stay that way.
The bigger issue is how do we turn around our image over the next 2yrs to become a destination club.
COE development no doubt will help, gun youngsters & results will change the perception but at the end of the day it will come down to cash & 3rd/4th party deals.
Panthers, Bulldogs, Eels, Roosters, Souths and even Manly can offer more money on/off the park than us.
We are one of the top supported club but struggling to recruit is a massive blight on our mgmt to have cashcows will to fund player deals.
Genuine question ....how do 3rd/4th party details work? Are they outside the salary cap? is there any limit to the amount that a coach/player can earn through these deals? How do we know how much each club offers in 3rd/4th party deals?
If the third party has any link to the club there is an overall club limit under the cap. If there is link between the third party and the club, it’s unlimited
I think you meant "if there is NO link .....it's unlimited"? That's a worry. Thanks for explaining.
Why is that a worry?
Because of accountability, equity and fairness. That's why it's a worry. You're ok with rich "external" benefactors being the determining factor in a player signing with a particular club?
What's the point of a salary cap if the ultimate composition of a team is determined by how much a player can receive in 3rd/4th party deals??
Because 3rd party deals are between the player and the 3rd party..Are you saying Musashi and Gatorade wouldn't provide Cameron Munster a deal to promote their products if he didn't play for the Storm..?
I'm saying that those deals need to be regulated and have a proportional limit of the total value of the player's contract that those deals attract.
I can't wait to see an NRL player promote Buxom Bella's Therapy Services of Leumeah as part of their 3rd/4th party deal!!!
They have to be registered with the NRL and approved..
And, is there some way that we, the punters, would know exactly how much a player is paid, both within the salary cap and from external sponsors?
Not just a total, but a breakdown of all sources of income that constitute their annual payments as a professional NRL player? Does that exist?
Is your wage published anywhere?

Personally, I feel it should be published in a salary cap controlled sport.
Fans deserve the right to know what impact a player will have on their future expectations. For example, if Tamou is coming here for 350 a year it is a great deal. If he is coming for 550 a year, it is an entirely different debate. Fans, ultimately, fund sport and everywhere else that is acknowledged.
I'm a teacher, I know that my salary is publicly available. Difference is it is a set wage and not in a salary competitive environment. I am a fan of the NFL and published salaries makes negotiations harder for clubs as players use previous players contracts as a measuring stick.

Yes, but player agents will tell them anyway. It is also clearer for players as a club saying "we can't go to 500 for you as our cap is full" can be shown to be true / false by the player looking at the cap.
Personally, I wish the NRL would adopt the NBA's system where certain salaries are 'set'. I.e. five years / all NBA / All star = this amount. There should be tiers.
The bottom line for me, as a fan, is that the info dictates how I will feel about signings. Had I of known Mbye was on massive money his last two years, there is no way I'd have wanted him. That is one example. If I knew the Huth was on a pittance, I'd like him to have been upgraded. We deserve the right to know IMO as the cap basically dictates likely success or failure for years to come. Coaches can just leave like Cleary did...CEOs can just leave...but we, as fans, are 'stuck' with these deals for years.

I really hate the idea of payment tiers. I personally don't believe anyone has a "right" to know what a player earns.

This forum has a bad habit of not thinking players in good teams are good players. Campbell Graham is a great player and only very young, can play centre or wing at a high level.
Would prefer JAC though!

Ayshford's game against the Warriors, when we came back in the 2nd half, is probably his best game for the WT. And also, one of the best games by any WT centre, he was simply unstoppable.

Robert Jennings says hi.
It’s not just the forum.
The thing is players surrounded by superstars look better than they are. Take away the stars and they become bog average. Blair would be another example
We don’t have stars let alone superstars
Besides my original comment was saying no JAC, no Talau and we get graham.....that’s utter madness. He would want to be a superstar for that to be a good deal. It’s a long way from that. Make Melbourne better, Souths better and we stay the same.
If you the graham is even remotely good enough to get make that deal good, I severely underestimated your opinion

Most CEOs salaries are published and they are in a competitive environment.
I think most in club land have a fair idea of what players are paid and what they are worth. Don't think publishing wages will make a difference.
Also its not like the $ figures big money deals aren't mentioned in the media already.
