Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

When Reynolds was playing inside bj he just gave early ball to him and he killed it benji hardly passed to him

I agree
Been saying all year we never gave BJ enough early ball - when we did he was almost unstoppable

What i would like to know is how the rabbits can just say the jet is finished at the club and now his money can go to ado carr when he has a contract, wish we could just say packer and reynold are finished at the club and that now we can go shopping. What do the do to their contracted player - water torture until they say they will leave when under contract

Isaiah Papali’i off to Paramatta good pickup for them would’ve liked him here

Strange one as 13/12/11 look covered at Parra. He has openly said he wants to play back row and we (seemingly) would have been a much better fit.

I was hoping we would get him as he is better than Garner and also a better 13 than we have.

Tons of these second tier guys gone or going...you would like to think we have something up our sleeve.

Maybe Matterson wants out ?

Funny how Matterson isn’t been trained as hard this year , yet looked half the player he did in a tigers jersey.

Funny that Matterson wasn't included in the NSW SOO train on squad this season .. he did get selected .. whilst he was with the mighty Tigers .. !! ;-)

Yeah I like that Fittler doesn't cop the egos and sookers too much.

Interested to know who the centres will be for next year,BJ was poor in his first year,Mbye not much better,Talau was in and out of the team,Aj has been used on the wing,Hoffman played 1 game and was highly rated by Madge,Momirovski possibly cOming back,William Kei getting a top 30 or development spot, who does Madge run with?

I think it will be BJ and Doueihi

Leilua is lazy and will not tackle. An ISP cup position but even then he is blocking the pathway of a younger player. Doueihi at 5/8

BJ is going to want to be on fire from the outset of 2021 or Madge will have him in ISP bloody quick.

Totally agree with that .. however I do believe that we didnt use him enough last season. BJ is a line busting outside back that should be used as a strike weapon close to try line. It take 2 or 3 defenders to stop him and if the defence does put 2 or 3 defenders in on him, he will either break the line, .. or get held up by the 3 defenders, but then be able to give an off load to an unmarked winger .. !!

He may be a line buster but his defence in the most crucial position is woeful. He's 28 now so it is most unlikely he will improve. Our issue is defence. We cannot afford to carry him especially with Nofoaluma outside. It is our Achilles heel and our defence won't improve until we put a player in the position who can defend.

He’s never been known as a woeful defender in the past though, so there is obviously something to do with our structures and perhaps a bit of his attitude.

He had two of the Tigers most notoriously bad defenders inside and outside of him,

Funny thing is i don't think Madge would of hired him if it was a attitude thing.
Don't want to sound mean but think it might be an issue of footy smarts.

Hopefully without benji next to him will improve as well

Don't know if Madge had a huge say in the signing. From what I read on here BJ became available and Pascoe made the final call to sign him.

Yes, the structure was called Benji Marshall. BJ's attitude was - Mate they should buy you a ball all for yourself and another for the rest of the team.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/stats/players?teamId=55014&sortBy=offloads

Look up BJ’s stats if you want. We are MAD if we don’t give him the ball.

Only 14 games for these numbers.

Top in offloads
3 in tackle busts
6 in line breaks
9th for runs
8 for try assists
9 for tries

13 in missed tackles
11 in errors

Don’t let’s figures get in the way of a good winge though. Thats the weststigersforum way

Agreed, some people calling him to not even be in the starting 13 are mad. Most NRL teams would welcome him into their pack.

Most would have him the centre.

I bet Canberra would have him over Scott anyway of the week.

BJ looked like he only turned up to get his paycheck.
Sick of other players being held responsible for players who don't live up to expectation.

Was it the Grand Final where he didn't demonstrate urgency to get back into the defensive line and the Chooks attacked where he should have been and scored? I remember also he bombed a try by hogging the ball. 12 point turnaround in a Grand Final. No wonder Stuart was so keen to move him on, to us!

100% There is a reason Nofo was so good this year and that was BJ.

💯 BJ simply was not fit enough coming off injury, limited off season and then Covid. He’s a good player in attack suspect defensively. Need better players around him on the edge defensively than Marshall and Garner.

Benji was the wrong fit for BJ

This is the same argument as Brooks isn't a good fit for whoever. BJ is a pretty good player and he was pretty good for us but he has stupid brain explosions and his defense isn't great.

He walks into the team for mine and he will do a good job if he stops the brain explosions. If he doesn't stop them he won't be re-signed.

Yep. I'd definitely keep him. The raiders were a much better team with him there than not but the dumb plays are what have stopped him from being a great player.

My post was nothing about the brain explosions. We knew what we were getting when we signed him.

However the point is BJ needs early ball and would be much better off without a 5/8 running across field looking to turn players back inside or fire a cut out pass to his winger.

A running 5/8 like Wighton would be perfect. Itll open up the field for him and let him beat his man one on one.
