We let Paps go no question asked but with talau we are intent on not letting him go for a current representative player its just disappointing. Talau will be a fine player. He just needs to work hard like Papenhuyzen. He should have first crack at right centre but needs to train the house down on speed, agility and passing. No point trading a fine player when JAC is a compassionate release. It doesn't sound overly compassionate to require a player trade.

I think talau will be a good player for us moving forward at centre or maybe lock ? don't want to lose him long term but if it had meant getting a player trade done for a year he could have learnt from storm system that is all

He's a genuine centre. I believe he was carrying an injury for most of the year. If he works with a professional athletics company, he puts on a few yards of pace which makes all the difference. But, he must have speed outside of him. No use being able to make breaks unless your winger has the pace to go the 100 if required.

Hope you are right Paws and he kicks on at centre i am sure he will only get better agrre we just need good winger outside him

Well they haven't signed any of those 4 you mentioned
I am sure we have enquired about other players but we just don't hear about it any more
Come November 1 and we might even make a few official offers to players for 2022

When I read that article about Barretts "wish list" my immediate thought was that Barrett (or the article) might be making a rod for his own back. Success starved Bulldogs fans are now reading that they are getting JAC, Burton, Chrichton, Yeo to go with Hetherington & Flanagan.

If these players dont come, he is going to start on the back foot with the fans. God forbid it takes a while for the team to gel.

so by not signing him it reflects we dont identify the right talent then, he would not have been expensive and could have played wing for us if tedesco had stayed with us

Would Sir Alex Ferguson have done this? I'd suggest he would have made sure one was locked up. We didn't,which us not good enough and we wonder why we can't make the 8 and are still trying to find a fullback after $950k on Mbye. Unbelievable some are still defending the Club on this issue.

It would be nice for the club to just land the target for once, we haven't really done that since Adam Blair.
The frustrating thing with Paps is he had wraps on him and we didn't really try to retain him and tedesco sold us down the river. I know the family a little bit through Oakhill and we did not try very hard at all

Of course we chose to focus on the current NSW fullback over a kid with injury concerns. Then several months later it went to crap when Teddy chose to leave, but we weren't to know that back in March.

It's no coincidence the Storm are always very strong, and never buy rep players. They aggressively target youth coming off contract and make other teams pay up early or lose their guns.

Of course we chose to focus on the current NSW fullback over a kid with injury concerns. Then several months later it went to crap when Teddy chose to leave, but we weren't to know that back in March.

It's no coincidence the Storm are always very strong, and never buy rep players. They aggressively target youth coming off contract and make other teams pay up early or lose their guns.

We have done the same targeting Simpkin at hooker too

It doesn't surprise me really. The likelihood of success based on size is flawed, Thurston and Papenhuyzen are no better examples. I heard Gould on recruitment and he spoke about spirit being the no 1 attribute of a potential recruit. I see that attribute in Scolari but someone involved in players mentioned his size? Mmm

But why couldn't we focus on both? Why didn't our retention guy (Jim Carey - cable guy) see this kids' desire and spirit to succeed. We were hardly overrun with players of his junior rep background. It was a serious failing which has had very significant consequences for our team. We are still searching for a fullback.

They were suggesting Reimis Smith swap as 250k to strom coming off the JAC asking price of $800k so basically for 2021 dogs pay JAC $550k

@Pawsandclaws shhhhhh! Don't give it away. Our CC players are currently holding weekly sprint sessions & whilst I totally agree with you about size, I think we will see a much different body frame for many of these younger players who are just starting to mature at 20/21.

The key (or should I say Kei?) is that pace is not lost as size gets bigger. Spirit, pace, size should be in that order. Happy for bigger muscle and body weight but keeping the pace is important and that is probably why they are holding these sessions.

Most of the staff involved at the time aren't even with the club any more.
