What gets me is Barrett signs with dogs and already he had signed more than what we have, I sometimes wonder if we really are trying ores just go throw the motions . Iam just frustrated with are lack of class signings

I believe that the Wests group are exactly doing that .. having a team in the competition and just going through the motions .
Just keeping financial so that there is no burden on the group .. no one will tell me there is any desire from the board to be successful the feeling of mediocrity is rife at the club ,the constant non achievement has not in any respect been addressed hence what nearly a decade of non achievement.. if an entity wants to change the culture they enact systems to achieve this . I do not blame the football department they can only work with what there given , and to that end it seems not much ! Hence why other clubs are on the up and the Tigers just make up the numbers ... someone prove me wrong .

Mate they are footing the bill exclusively now. They will want ROI.

I tend to agree with both comments and we have had a disjointed board and not much direction but this has changed over the past 2 years.

On 2nd October 2020 the Amalgamation of Wests Ashfield Leagues Club and Balmain Tigers Leagues Club was cemented. As per the Deed of Amalgamation, this changed the ownership structure of the club to effectively be 90% Wests Ashfield, 10% Balmain Tigers.

They certainly want the Club to be more competitive and i think we are still in a waiting game until the COE is completed late next year. This will also co-inside with having some salary cap money to finally spend in 2022, unless we off load prior.

All this speculation for 2021 on whom we acquire really means nothing until we can complement by having a few good signings or retaining performing players.

For now i am going ti trust in Hartigan/Madge that we don't pay overs and happily not sign anyone until everything is sorted with Harry Grant and what smith does.

If we get JAC which is doubtful now would be a bonus.

Once you learn patience your options suddenly expand.

Yep pretty much agree with your thoughts on this.
I have no problem if JAC does not sign with us. He has a very good contract in front of him and if he wants to stuff around he can go the Latrell way. For me our priorities are a established (not manufactured) fullback and a quality lock forward.
If we have to wait until 2022 so be it but let’s not waste money on wingers.

Does anyone know enough about Simpkin and his potential as a lock in the future ala Brandon Smith?

Looks a nuggety bloke and in that highlights package floating around all his tries are him wombating his way over the line.

Assuming we could get Rusty medically retired his $800k would be enough to get Crichton, either way we could I guess just go after him from 2022 on
Maguire brought him into first grade and coached him his first two years
There'd have to be some possibility I'd have thought

That would be excellent. Angus Crichton is a fantastic player and could share the role with Blore on that right edge with Blore playing about 20-30 minutes a game.

Crichton at lock, why not? Played there a bit for the Chooks this year when they had injuries. Give him a full preseason there and see what he can produce

Go talk about it in the lament thread paws, the topic is done to death. Seriously, whatever the truth of it, the understandable or the terrible, it's coming on 4 years ago and there's no point looking back.

Most of the staff involved at the time aren't even with the club any more.

Let it go mate seriously, it's become a joke about you, soon it will move from being a joke to just being sad, like an old drunk in the corner of a dodgy pub.

I was visualising that and laughed
Unfortunately he was wearing a dirty old Tiger Jersey which isn't a good look for our club
If the Tigers don't find some success soon, that might be me sitting in the corner passed out and slouched over a table with a drink spilt all over me

That’s been me since 2000. Not to mention the prior years with Balmain.

He was decent there but he’s definitely best on the edge, he runs fantastic lines and hits holes at real pace.

So where are we at with Sam Mcintyre prior to the 1st of November surely we have upgraded him by now and sorted it out as he was one of the players that performed this season.

According to THE_POM's last post McIntyre would be confirmed in the near future. Fingers crossed.

Well there dragging it out surely they could get it sorted.

Speaking with 7NEWS Brisbane reporter Chris Garry in the heart of the Queensland Origin camp, Grant claimed that his time as a Tiger was up.

Following a query about whether AAMI Park or Leichhardt Oval would be home in 2021, Grant had this to say: “Back down to Melbourne, Mate,” Grant told Garry.

Grant wants to play with a premiership team learn as much off Bellamy in final year, Smith maybe retiring by the sounds of it?

Do people remember that just like with Addo Carr, the Storm went after Paps very aggressively early in the season. In March we had to pick between Teddy or Paps. Of course we chose to focus on the current NSW fullback over a kid with injury concerns. Then several months later it went to crap when Teddy chose to leave, but we weren't to know that back in March.

It's no coincidence the Storm are always very strong, and never buy rep players. They aggressively target youth coming off contract and make other teams pay up early or lose their guns.

But why couldn't we focus on both? Why didn't our retention guy (Jim Carey - cable guy) see this kids' desire and spirit to succeed. We were hardly overrun with players of his junior rep background. It was a serious failing which has had very significant consequences for our team. We are still searching for a fullback.

Pap wanted to leave as he thought his chances were betting at the Storm with an ageing Slater, rather than a younger Teddy. We can try and talk him around, and who's to say we didn't try, but in the end we had Teddy and he wanted a chance.

Had Storm waited until June then it would have been a different story with Paps, but they went hard and early, as they did with JAC, before we had a chance to reflect on squad and performance.

We can try all we want but if a player wants to go and are off contract then there's not much we can do.

Well it seems to be ok that Reynolds didn't see much first grade or Hoffman or Jennings etc.
it probably shouldn't be put to talau as you will not see first grade in 2021 but maybe with Momorovski coming back it might be tough to hold a spot in first grade for 2021 and with that he may have headed to storm for opportunity for 2021

That’s a joke .... right?

No mate I read it in the SMH...
We missed the opportunity to swap Talau when storm asked and subsequently likely to miss JAC.
***We let Paps go no question asked*** but with talau we are intent on not letting him go for a current representative player its just disappointing. We could have convinced talau surely, in tha past we had Mommo that went to Melbourne and Fulton went to SL for a season to help the club perhaps talau could have been convinced of a year at the storm under bellamy

We let Paps go no questions asked?

He was off contract! This is starting to become some weird fable about "letting Paps go".

Bad wording in my behalf we did not sign him when we thought we had turdesco

Why would you re-sign him when we had Teddy, Teddy was young and killing it, obviously ended bad for us on both occasions but no one has that foresight.

Would Sir Alex Ferguson have done this? I'd suggest he would have made sure one was locked up. We didn't,which us not good enough and we wonder why we can't make the 8 and are still trying to find a fullback after $950k on Mbye. Unbelievable some are still defending the Club on this issue.

At the start of last year, there wasn't one club that wanted him, not even the Storm.

If Paps had not have moved to the Storm he wouldn't be the player that he is. I can see a hell of a lot of Slater in him. Whether he has been taught that by Slater directly or from whoever worked with/taught him, he certainly has it now. I know he had potential - they all do. Let's no lament - let's congratulate a Balmain junior for coming of age.

You make a good point. Both teams in the GF had a very high number of players who debuted with their respective club. Storm are very good at recognising future prospects. They always have some Smiths or Bromwichs coming through.

I believe the comparison you make in the last paragraph is ordinary. In fact I believe it is very ordinary and you should withdraw it.

You’re more like someone who just can’t get over his ex-girlfriend dating someone else.

Mansour or Naden to dogs
Roberts to Newcastle
JAC to Souths

I don’t mean to have a go, but you sound like one of those supporters on Facebook who have little understanding about the game whenever you post anything. Never seen a poster who goes against the grain so often on this forum who isn’t trolling. Like where the hell does Naden or Mansour to the Dogs come from?

I think we should all just calm down a little .. I don't expect the Tigers to sign anyone of note for the next season, what Madge is doing is trying to prepare the Tigers for a season or 2 down the track. A lot of younger talent in our lower ranks and Madge is going after the junior super stars from other clubs.

A season or two of pain using the current old stock players and younger guys coming through, and then we will see a team full of youthful players with a reasonable amount of NRL experience ready to shine for the Tigers.

What's that old saying .. "no pain .. no gain .. !!" So we just have to take the pain for a season or two and then plan will work out .. I like another old time saying in .. "pain let's you know that you are still alive .. !!" So don't worry we (the Tigers) are still alive folks .. !! ;-)

We’ve taken the pain for 9 seasons.

Not by a long shot...some already have him lacing it up t Wests Tigers in 2022

until Smith makes a call on his future, everything Harry says is a PR exercise. I do think Smith is done, but until there's a statement saying otherwise we have a glimmer of hope.

Yep right on the money. Unfortunately 2021 is going to be more of the same. I think WT know this hence looking to extend Madge a season (2022) when its much more his team without the crap (those expensive, unproductive and surplus to requirement).

It does concern me though that marquee players only look at us to raise their pay packet elsewhere. We could have the whole cap at our disposal but if players don't want in at WT, what's the use of it.

We just need one big fish. A Mitchell, a JAC, a Grant, a B.Smith, someone.
Just one and hopefully that belief in the public eyes that we're an undesirable location will change.

I’m not convinced he is. If he is, why hasn’t he announced it? Why is he always coy? I think it’s because he’s in the middle of negotiating another year. Players like him don’t announce their retirement in November or December
