Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

So we are at the 16th Nov (16 days after deadline) and we have landed Nothing.... Correct nothing.. We have lost another in Sam M, Aloiai situation doesn't sound good either. I remember the days leading up to Nov 1 thinking it was going to be a great week ahead for signings / re signings for 2021 and 2022 but once again disappointing.
I know there is a lot of reason for this, we have tried but the end of the day it is a business and we need to get results.. I still think once we can get the first big name player over the line the pressure would be off and others will follow. we cannot blame the salary cap as we would be talking to players for 2022 as well and that is after we have lost Packer / Reynolds money off our cap..
I know people are reluctant to over spend on players due the Ivan's brilliant buying :face_with_thermometer: but I think we need to just make it happen for the 1st one. Not sure who that should be but would trust Madge on this one... we cannot keep offering low money for top players and crossing fingers that they come as they won't.. We need to face the facts we are NOT attractive to players until we start winning or we pay overs....

We have a lot of top junior talent coming through but they need Experienced players to teach and develop them to get to the next level.

I don't know the answer but as fans who keep buying memberships, Merchandise, Game day tickets, etc... WE DESERVE better and no finals for 10 years

I have full faith in Madge and the commitment he has shown us and back him long term here. He has cleared out a lot of dead wood..

Just my thoughts but would love to see us announcing a player signing soon for round 4

Tamou.

How many "elite" players did Melbourne or Penrith sign in the last couple of years?

You don't really need to sign them if you already have them.. Panthers picked up Api K, Kurt Capwell just to name some.. but you are missing my point

McIntyre is way better than Seyfarth, way better. I can’t believe they couldn’t see the potential in McIntyre and have just let him go! They will probably let Aloiai walk as well. We can’t afford to lose good forwards like this, our pack is weak enough as it is! There had better be something positive coming our way soon.

This really irks me. The clubs spends 2-3 years on a development pathway, he gets to the point he is selected in first grade, shows good promise and development, and then we let him walk for what is likely less than $50k difference.

I understand we aren’t going to keep all the development contracts, but keep the good ones for gosh sake. We let McIntyre go and keep Seyfarth who has shown nothing with his opportunity and by reports appears to have an attitude problem. Extremely frustrated.

McIntyre's a park footballer at best. Can't tackle and avoids taking hit ups like the ball is covered in spiders. If you can't identify Seyfarth's talent then may god have mercy on your soul. Rugby League may not be the sport for you champ.

There's a reason why Seyfarth hasn't been re-signed and money has nothing to do with it.

attitude problem willow ?

Nope, not FG quality.

That’s obvious, so why did we just let McIntyre walk away?

I don’t understand why people are against signing James Roberts & Josh Mansour they are quality proven first graders who have both represented NSW not that long ago & will improve our backline if fit & focused. A backline of
Mbye
Nofoaluma
Roberts
Leilua
Mansour
Douiehi
Brooks
with
Cini
Kepaoa
Talau
Momorvoski
Bradley
Reynolds
Madden
Walters
As back ups will improve our backline from last year.

Because they don't add any value to what we already have.
We would be spending cap money for nothing.

Its like going to the corner store and you have existing can of tuna at home, there is one with a use by date of today and another that's damaged do you really need to purchase more Tuna ????? Pass Pass Pass

Then you leave the existing Tuna in the can don't give it an opportunity and it goes out in the Bin (Another club) unused.

I think they are related to John West?

I rest my case with Mcintyre that has been signed by the Titans.
We really have a dysfunctional CEO.

Why is it that any good juniors that sign are kudos to Hartigan and Madge, but when it goes pear shaped it is the CEO's fault.

Serious question, who is responsible for managing the cap and drawing a line of the max value of a player in terms of what we will offer them?

The CEO manages the Cap and reports that to the board it would be one of his KPI's.

I am not giving credit either to Madge/Hartigan if they are also the let Mcintrye go, i blame all three.

So if they value him @ 200k and the titans offer 350k you just over pay. If he has been let go its because the contract offered by another team out ways his value.
Blaming people is pretty silly tbh

If you read the facts WT offered 1 year deal $115k
Titans came up with 2 year deal $120k Season.
No one from the club bothered to contact his new Manager and even bother to negotiate and Madge did not know what was going on and blamed recruiting.

Off to the Sharkies apparently.

He lives in the Shire. Remember he couldn't play because one of his children's teachers had caught Covid19.

No JAC and we have now let McIntyre go. To date all we have bought is Tamou, Stefano and get back Momo. 2021 is shaping up to be a long season. With some of this season's weaker teams looking stonger on paper I think WT will finish near the bottom of the ladder. 14 spot is my prediction. My other prediction is Maguire's coaching position will be under pressure and fodder for the papers who dislike WT. Bring on the cricket please.

Nah we will do well in 2021. Not having Benji stifle play is worth 4 new signings. BJ will have a big year. Stefano, Tamou, Musgrove will steamroll opposition. Our goal kicking has been woeful for years, but in 2021 either AD or Momo will slot them nicely. Big Lucy will bring his magic. Liddle and Simpkin will have us forgetting Harry Grant ever existed.
Keep the faith!

Plenty of salary cap to use for 2021 now. Hopefully can get Laurie early and get him into first grade, maybe upgrade a few guys we want to keep too. Maybe we could get lucky and someone half decent becomes available

Honestly I’m still keen on signing Josh McGuire. Think he’d be great for us at lock.

I'm not keen - he is a Dog. I'd like a $1 for every dog shot he has put on players "on the ground"

Maybe I'm not up with the new trend, I don't want to cheer for players of that ilk.

McGuire would be a retirement contract. No thanks.

Yep, all the players who survived last seasons cull, will be another season older and know slacking off will no longer be tolerated.
Plus there are a few off contract next year, that is always an incentive to do well.

I thought McIntyre was a keeper, but he left and was only at best a reserve bench for us, so I struggle to understand the pages of vilification towards the club, he is easily the most replaceable type player there is.

We should take a leaf out of the dogs book to land signings. The way they landed Luke Thompson they flew over there to get the contract signed.

The player himself has been a bit of a flop so far but half the NRL was trying to sign him but they got it done.

I wish we could do that with anyone decent.

Why would we take a leaf out of the book of a team that has finished below us on the ladder 3 years straight?

With all this hand wringing and our recruitment and retention mob penny pinching from everyone is there any solid info on whether Blore has re signed. I know there was a contract on the table and it was only a formality but i haven't seen anything to suggest he has signed. Just hope in a weeks time we are not adding him to the list of departures.
