I hope that if we sign Joe O, the club doesn’t go ‘oh that’s a good replacement for Aloiai, he can go to manly now’
Screw that, demand compensation from Manly still. Sironen or they can pay us a couple hundred grand for us. Just because we’ve signed someone in his spot doesn’t mean we should let him go
They won’t have a choice they will want the player starting training shortly and Aloai gone. We will need the cap room. Will play out the same way as it did Matterson. We brought Leilua in who arguably had the better season at a lower cost.
NRL has to fix this.
Do we need the cap room? He’s on $350k and we’ve got plenty of cap left even with signing Roberts and Joe O. Don’t see the need to release him, make manly compensate us
I agree but I don’t see it happening. Manly are clever why would they compensate us they have signed him for 2022.
Because they're pretty desperate for a prop for next season.
They have already offered him more than he is worth so I doubt they will want him to cost them anything more.
Let him sit in reserves then, that’s their fault for doing a bad deal
Of course it is, I think they have offered him a stupid amount. If we can use his money or squad spot to improve our roster then let him go.
Not too much on the market. Of course if we found someone We wanted to take his spot then go for it but doubt that happens for a bit. In the mean time let’s keep talking to manly and see if we can get a deal out of them
If we get a player from Manly while they pay Aloiai $600k then tht would be one of the worst recruitment decision I have seen a club make. Up there with Hunt being a $1m+ player.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see how bad they want him. A swap is always hard because the clubs need to agree and the players need to agree so it’s a long process. While we have no reason to release him we need to push manly into doing something though even if it’s just financial compensation
Not if it damages us by trying to make a point. The most important thing for us is to improve our squad, not prove a point.
As it stands Wests Tigers contracts aren’t worth anything, the moment a stronger club wants you, you can walk. We need to make a point that that ends here. Lee was pretty strong on that and I’m 100% behind him. Will be very disillusioned if he backs down
While I agree, what I think is more important is a successful season next year and Aloiai playing reserves doesn't add to that.
I’m content to completely disregard 2021 if it means the club will no longer be the dead carcass to the vultures of the NRL. We won’t win while we have the ‘rich three’ anyway.
We are improving the roster, a top 8 spot is not out of the question for next year. I we are in the 8 all year next year then that makes recruitment for 2022 so much easier.
Yes try and get something from Manly, I doubt they will give up anything, but don't damage 2021 to prove a point. Instead get the rules fixed by the NRL, hit the message hard that these rules are hurting the game. Even if you release him speak about your reluctance to do so and how the rules need to be changed .
The important thing about this is not making Aloiai waste in reserve grade, it is ensuring it doesn't happen again, the best way to do that is to get rules in place to prevent it.
I am not in favour of him in reggies, I want us to get a Sironen or a Schuster. But if Manly don’t play ball then our message to the NRL should be look, we have our best prop playing reserve grade because of your rules.
The more I think about it Aloiai has been low-balled too (due to earlier failings in recruiting) he was our best forward last year and is better than he’s getting credit for. A teams best forward is worth at least 500K a year.
Giving up our best forward two years in a row will just fan the perception that we’re a push over.
I agree rule changes are needed but will Politis, Rusty and co?
I think our offer was more than fair, if Manly give up Siro or Schuster then they re plain stupid, they have already over committed
Clearly they value JA if they offered 700k. And schuster is a want away. They are very low in Middle players , once you get past Tapau who is getting older now and hasn’t played a whole season in awhile . There’s no depth past Jake Turbo , which means they will go into next season with a middle of Jakey , Tapau, Paseka and Keppie. Hardly awe inspiring when you consider how backwards they go when AFB and Tapau were off the field .
It’s really about leverage , and we can carry 350k in reserves . We just did that with a fine .
So we get that money back so it's ok to waste it?
No , it’s not really wasting it . He moved to the end of the depth chart. If he’s required he plays firsts. If he kicks rocks , he’s in breach of contract and is fined accordingly .we prove a point and make an example of him , and also call manlys bluff as I think they would offer compensation . Like I said it’s about leverage , because we do have an incentive to have him play for the magpies all year .
I disagree but do understand where you are coming from.
