I also no longer want Aloiai around the club and understand keeping him isn't exactly ideal for the team but seeing as he's not the first to pull this stunt (with us), what message does releasing him send to our players and the NRL community?
It's happened twice in as many years and the more I think about it given we release him, other than Lee's stern plea to the NRL, we'd be doing nothing different to previously.

Agree Lauren, I can’t believe people willing to accept business as usual, some very short memories me thinks.

And to the people crying about his behaviour, you have all been fooled by the instructions his Manager gave him, like Matto’s manager before that. Kicking stones 101.

Its a tough one and can only really be fixed by the NRL implementing rule changes around players not gaining financial advantage when breaking contracts early.

On the one hand, WT doesn't want to be seen as a doormat and holding firm seems the right move. However if it allows you to replace with a better player and negate any future toxicity around the club by said player no longer being there, it is probably the way to go.

NRL must step in sooner rather than later on this topic though...

I hope that if we sign Joe O, the club doesn’t go ‘oh that’s a good replacement for Aloiai, he can go to manly now’

Screw that, demand compensation from Manly still. Sironen or they can pay us a couple hundred grand for us. Just because we’ve signed someone in his spot doesn’t mean we should let him go

They won’t have a choice they will want the player starting training shortly and Aloai gone. We will need the cap room. Will play out the same way as it did Matterson. We brought Leilua in who arguably had the better season at a lower cost.
NRL has to fix this.

Do we need the cap room? He’s on $350k and we’ve got plenty of cap left even with signing Roberts and Joe O. Don’t see the need to release him, make manly compensate us

I agree but I don’t see it happening. Manly are clever why would they compensate us they have signed him for 2022.

Because they're pretty desperate for a prop for next season.

They have already offered him more than he is worth so I doubt they will want him to cost them anything more.

Let him sit in reserves then, that’s their fault for doing a bad deal

Of course it is, I think they have offered him a stupid amount. If we can use his money or squad spot to improve our roster then let him go.

Not too much on the market. Of course if we found someone We wanted to take his spot then go for it but doubt that happens for a bit. In the mean time let’s keep talking to manly and see if we can get a deal out of them

If we get a player from Manly while they pay Aloiai $600k then tht would be one of the worst recruitment decision I have seen a club make. Up there with Hunt being a $1m+ player.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see how bad they want him. A swap is always hard because the clubs need to agree and the players need to agree so it’s a long process. While we have no reason to release him we need to push manly into doing something though even if it’s just financial compensation

Not if it damages us by trying to make a point. The most important thing for us is to improve our squad, not prove a point.

As it stands Wests Tigers contracts aren’t worth anything, the moment a stronger club wants you, you can walk. We need to make a point that that ends here. Lee was pretty strong on that and I’m 100% behind him. Will be very disillusioned if he backs down

While I agree, what I think is more important is a successful season next year and Aloiai playing reserves doesn't add to that.

I’m content to completely disregard 2021 if it means the club will no longer be the dead carcass to the vultures of the NRL. We won’t win while we have the ‘rich three’ anyway.

We are improving the roster, a top 8 spot is not out of the question for next year. I we are in the 8 all year next year then that makes recruitment for 2022 so much easier.

Yes try and get something from Manly, I doubt they will give up anything, but don't damage 2021 to prove a point. Instead get the rules fixed by the NRL, hit the message hard that these rules are hurting the game. Even if you release him speak about your reluctance to do so and how the rules need to be changed .

The important thing about this is not making Aloiai waste in reserve grade, it is ensuring it doesn't happen again, the best way to do that is to get rules in place to prevent it.

I am not in favour of him in reggies, I want us to get a Sironen or a Schuster. But if Manly don’t play ball then our message to the NRL should be look, we have our best prop playing reserve grade because of your rules.

The more I think about it Aloiai has been low-balled too (due to earlier failings in recruiting) he was our best forward last year and is better than he’s getting credit for. A teams best forward is worth at least 500K a year.

Giving up our best forward two years in a row will just fan the perception that we’re a push over.

I agree rule changes are needed but will Politis, Rusty and co?

I think our offer was more than fair, if Manly give up Siro or Schuster then they re plain stupid, they have already over committed

Clearly they value JA if they offered 700k. And schuster is a want away. They are very low in Middle players , once you get past Tapau who is getting older now and hasn’t played a whole season in awhile . There’s no depth past Jake Turbo , which means they will go into next season with a middle of Jakey , Tapau, Paseka and Keppie. Hardly awe inspiring when you consider how backwards they go when AFB and Tapau were off the field .
It’s really about leverage , and we can carry 350k in reserves . We just did that with a fine .

Madge is currently on NITV, speaking about an Indigenous Pathways Program. Never caught all of what he said however.

Great, I said earlier that I wasn’t aware of this initiative, shows the club is moving in the right direction, until this week, did we have any indigenous players in our program?

If everything falls in WTs favour and we find ourselves having a much better outcome eg; Curtis or Schuster swap and the possibility of Joe Ofahengaue.

Why would you want a toxic/disgruntled player trying to disrupt/corrupt what WTHQ have managed to turn into a more favourable outcome for the club.

Here is part of the words from Storm CEO, Frank Ponissi, in an article on NRL.com.au, when discussing Harry Grant's development at Wests Tigers. It is a good wrap for us and may persuade other players to have a bit more of a look at our club.

“He is coming back to us as a far, far better player than when he left, which is fantastic for us, and we are really appreciative of the Tigers for the way they developed him and the way Madge [Michael Maguire] looked after him. I thought it was tremendous.”

No , it’s not really wasting it . He moved to the end of the depth chart. If he’s required he plays firsts. If he kicks rocks , he’s in breach of contract and is fined accordingly .we prove a point and make an example of him , and also call manlys bluff as I think they would offer compensation . Like I said it’s about leverage , because we do have an incentive to have him play for the magpies all year .

Yep , the whole competition would have seen that . Along with Luciano and Aloiai. I get how we directly gained nothing as , we lose the player we developed and didn’t make the finals , but considering how well he played in origin , it really shows we can develop a player , as I don’t think Harry was this good when we got him .

So we get that money back so it's ok to waste it?

No , it’s not really wasting it . He moved to the end of the depth chart. If he’s required he plays firsts. If he kicks rocks , he’s in breach of contract and is fined accordingly .we prove a point and make an example of him , and also call manlys bluff as I think they would offer compensation . Like I said it’s about leverage , because we do have an incentive to have him play for the magpies all year .

I disagree but do understand where you are coming from.

That’s cool , and I understand your point of view. I think it’s dependant on who has the most leverage and people’s perceptions. Like I said manly are screwed if they don’t sign a front rower this offseason , and I truely think this JA rubbish was planned the moment AFB signed with the warriors .

Lads thoughts on Hoppa's kid that hasn't been resigned??
Fullback
had big wraps on him

Loose cannon or daddy baggage sign for a year if Laurie doesn't come until 2022

Madge mentioned that the Wests Tigers are launching a first of it's kind Pathways program with the Awabakal Organisation, WT will be aligned with young Indigenous players in the Newcastle area. Also spoke about Ron Griffen/Griffin being brought on board.
Justin and Lee then signed the contract.
Madge finished off speaking about his own history of coaching Indigenous players and what his hopes are (for us and the players) in establishing such a unique program

That sounds fantastic. Hopefully the club can post about it in detail. Great initiative by the sounds of it

We should have a look at bulldogs junior Matt Doorey for 2022. Hes a very talented youngster and will become a top class second rower the more he plays. Him, Luc and Blore would be a mean back row

No thank you.

The club shouldn’t release Josh unless for a player swap or some type of incentive,If they had of held tight with Matterson, either eels would of released Stefano early which would of really helped out when our forwards stocks were low because of injury,or another club would have come knocking with a player swap.Hold tight and pressure Manly in giving what they don’t want to give.
