I also no longer want Aloiai around the club and understand keeping him isn't exactly ideal for the team but seeing as he's not the first to pull this stunt (with us), what message does releasing him send to our players and the NRL community?
It's happened twice in as many years and the more I think about it given we release him, other than Lee's stern plea to the NRL, we'd be doing nothing different to previously.

Its a tough one and can only really be fixed by the NRL implementing rule changes around players not gaining financial advantage when breaking contracts early.

On the one hand, WT doesn't want to be seen as a doormat and holding firm seems the right move. However if it allows you to replace with a better player and negate any future toxicity around the club by said player no longer being there, it is probably the way to go.

NRL must step in sooner rather than later on this topic though...

Screw that, demand compensation from Manly still. Sironen or they can pay us a couple hundred grand for us. Just because we’ve signed someone in his spot doesn’t mean we should let him go

They won’t have a choice they will want the player starting training shortly and Aloai gone. We will need the cap room. Will play out the same way as it did Matterson. We brought Leilua in who arguably had the better season at a lower cost.

I’m content to completely disregard 2021 if it means the club will no longer be the dead carcass to the vultures of the NRL. We won’t win while we have the ‘rich three’ anyway.

We are improving the roster, a top 8 spot is not out of the question for next year. I we are in the 8 all year next year then that makes recruitment for 2022 so much easier.

Instead get the rules fixed by the NRL, hit the message hard that these rules are hurting the game. Even if you release him speak about your reluctance to do so and how the rules need to be changed .

I am not in favour of him in reggies, I want us to get a Sironen or a Schuster. But if Manly don’t play ball then our message to the NRL should be look, we have our best prop playing reserve grade because of your rules.

The more I think about it Aloiai has been low-balled too (due to earlier failings in recruiting) he was our best forward last year and is better than he’s getting credit for. A teams best forward is worth at least 500K a year.

Giving up our best forward two years in a row will just fan the perception that we’re a push over.

I think our offer was more than fair, if Manly give up Siro or Schuster then they re plain stupid, they have already over committed

They are very low in Middle players , once you get past Tapau who is getting older now and hasn’t played a whole season in awhile . There’s no depth past Jake Turbo , which means they will go into next season with a middle of Jakey , Tapau, Paseka and Keppie. Hardly awe inspiring when you consider how backwards they go when AFB and Tapau were off the field .
It’s really about leverage , and we can carry 350k in reserves . We just did that with a fine .

If everything falls in WTs favour and we find ourselves having a much better outcome eg; Curtis or Schuster swap and the possibility of Joe Ofahengaue.

Why would you want a toxic/disgruntled player trying to disrupt/corrupt what WTHQ have managed to turn into a more favourable outcome for the club.

If he kicks rocks , he’s in breach of contract and is fined accordingly .we prove a point and make an example of him , and also call manlys bluff as I think they would offer compensation . Yep , the whole competition would have seen that . Along with Luciano and Aloiai. Madge mentioned that the Wests Tigers are launching a first of it's kind Pathways program with the Awabakal Organisation, WT will be aligned with young Indigenous players in the Newcastle area. Also spoke about Ron Griffen/Griffin being brought on board.
Justin and Lee then signed the contract.
Madge finished off speaking about his own history of coaching Indigenous players and what his hopes are (for us and the players) in establishing such a unique program

Madge mentioned that the Wests Tigers are launching a first of it's kind Pathways program with the Awabakal Organisation, WT will be aligned with young Indigenous players in the Newcastle area. Also spoke about Ron Griffen/Griffin being brought on board.
Justin and Lee then signed the contract.
Madge finished off speaking about his own history of coaching Indigenous players and what his hopes are (for us and the players) in establishing such a unique program

The club shouldn’t release Josh unless for a player swap or some type of incentive,If they had of held tight with Matterson,either eels would of released Stefano early which would of really helped out when our forwards stocks were low because of injury,or another club would have come knocking with a player swap.Hold tight and pressure Manly in giving what they don’t want to give.
