Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If they are enquiring about Brett, then I would asume that would be for the FB role…..good purchase if the Dogs chip in against his contract.
SG - Anything on more forwards esp backrowers or Props or hooker.....

Morris twins have been ordinary this year. Do they have any good footy left or they done?

Brett Morris still a weapon

Hmm to be honest if we were going to go with aginig warriors, I would have preferred Bryson Goodwin. Cheaper and at least he kicks 80%.

For hookers Mitch Rein (Penrith) and Kurt Baptiste (Canberra) are both rakes who can go 80 mins, both are currently playing from the bench or in the NSWCup.

Don't think we need to go after anymore backs, but if Rona comes onboard we'll take him. We need some bigger forwards, be it young guys coming up, or seasoned players we need some big boys to back up the engine room.

Lawrence isn't a forward, and i have funny feeling ET will leave us at seasons end. If the Woods - Bulldogs cap issue falls through, do we keep Woodsy or not ??. Having Packer, Matulino and Woods rotating through the front row will give us plenty of grunt up front.

I hope Ivan has someone on the lookout in the UK for some mongrel back rowers wanting to test the NRL out. I'm sure there are plenty over there looking to get out of the UK winter season.

Who's our UK correspondent in the forum .. does he have any recommendations of UK forwards who would go alright over here ?? Maybe send the club a little email attention Ivan .. :exclamation:

Sorry to interrupt the Farah talk, Tigers have made enquiries to Bulldogs about Brett Morris.

Sorry about the misleading post a week or so back about the 2 signings thought they were 1 FG one depth turns out was both depth.

Great to see you back again mate.

Happy for any info, things change and no one is 100% correct all the time. I rather have information that any one hears then no information at all.

At the end of the day this thread is a rumour and suggestion thread, so there is no harm at all passing any information heard.

B Morris would not be someone i would try to sign he would probably want a 2-3 year contract on decent money. No thanks

I'd also pass on Morris cheap or no. Beyond his 'best before'.

Think it all comes down to $$$. His experience is something that can not be matched by anyone in our backline.

Would be a great mentor can fill wing of FB. But at the right price.

Part of me says yes if Bulldogs are paying a huge part of his salary, but I would love to see the Bulldogs struggle next year if they can't unload any of their players.

If you are looking for good decent backrowers in the UK, here are the ones i would look for but I think most are on long term contracts meaning the club would have to pay a transfer fee:

* Ben Currie - Warrington - Big, agile, great speed, highly rated
* Liam Farrell and John Bateman - both at Wigan -not the biggest but both have mongrel and are really good players. Bateman can also play centre.
* Stevie Ward - Leeds - bit injury prone but an 80min player (Wayne Bennett rates him)
* Alex Walmsley - St Helens - Massive Prop at 115kg and 196cm and onyl 27 years, bends line in attack, good aggression. If he came to the NRL he would improve even more.
* Chris Hill - Warrington - very good prop, 190cm, 111kg….hits hard, good leader of the pack, 29 years old. England International.
* Mike McMeeken -Castleford Tigers- 2nd rower who has come on leaps and bounds and played for England last year - 23 years old, runs a very good line, massive presence on the edge at 196cm and 110kg.

Not many others i would go after to be fair. I would take any of them if the price was right.

Isnt his knee shot?

Doesn't train and can't stride out without injury.
Signing Morris at his age with injury would be madness.
He's a gun on his day but Dogs have the best recover facilities in the league he will go down round 2 at Concord.

I wouldn't say no to Kurt Baptiste - he goes pretty well. Not that keen on Rein though.

I know it's not an option, but I'd really love to have Jake Granville as our dummy half - how good would that be?? He's a terrific player!

If we don't have to pay a cent, than I would take Farah back.

Imagine if Benji came back as well…

Hopefully he can come back and get a role at the club once he retires.

Him & Benji took unders to stay at the club and keep it under the cap.

I truly doubt that.
Farah took less a few years ago to help keep some at Tigers but the end result was a heavily back ended contract, the result of which we are witnessing now.

Benji was given a verbal figure by our previous CEO that did not get final board approval with the result of Benji throwing a tantrum, signing with NZRU, parading in a RU jersey while still playing for the Wests Tigers and ending up in the Qld Cup.

Frankly I don't want either of them back here, in any capacity.

Robbie and Benji were both overpaid and that caused massive issues for the team to develop a top quality squad. The has continued to this day with the big 4 being massively overpaid.

Hopefully this never occurs again.

Was Benji really overpaid? He was 500k a season and that I think would be his asking price.
Robbie was overpaid and his 900k pricetag should never EVER have been allowed. Why was his contract backended 200k. Even with RF at 700K we should NEVER ever have been in cap trouble with just those two. I think we had poor player management somewhere, we seemed to be under huge cap pressure but 500k would be normal for a good Half/FiveEight. Sure Benji was a YoYo in performance but he made our games worth watching.

People will hate me for saying this but the BIG 4 problem could have been avoided if we kept Benji and let him have a normal sendoff. Tedesco earned the FB position however Brooks and Moses were groomed for it. We punted Benji meaning no one with experience could mentor Moses or Brooks, we then punted people off good form like Austin. We raised Spolt brats giving our Juniors 600K contracts before they proved themselves.

He signed overseas didn't he?

You don't buy Aging wingers.

Fullbacks, sure they can be the rock that holds your line steady. Centers, they will get better at defense and giving good ball.

Wingers need speed. Brett still has some speed but is clearly busted. He dosen't work at FB as the bulldogs prove and as he slows down he will not be scoring the tries.

Josh maybe (But we have our Centers filled), Brett NO.

He just signed a two year extension at castlfored until end of 2020.

Ironic that hooker is the position everyone thought we'd struggle the most in this year, yet its been the most reliable and has given us one of our most consistent players.

Liddle goes good for me

Mcillwick is a plodder.

He had one bad game the other week. No need to go too far and label him a "plodder", especially since he's been one of our more consistent players.

Des stuffed Manly's Cap and it looks like he's struck again. How come Kent,Ikin and Rothfield aren't all over this. Oh, that's right, because it's not us.

The fact an average player like Hoppa is keeping the fullback jersey off Morris is a bit of a concern.

On a side note, does anyone remember when Morris posted a picture on social media reading "As if I'd ever go to the Bulldogs. Dragons 4 lyf". Only to sign with the Dogs the very next week.
