If we don't get Joe (Broncos) to play lock would Tommy Talou or Paul Momo be able to move and handle Lock. Both are Ball Players which we are lacking with Twal at Lock.

We have BJ and Roberts as first choice Centres.

Love to know Forum Member's thoughts.

Also is Kane Bradley a chance to play in the NRL this year?

We need a proper forward at lock I think. Our pack gets dominated enough without having someone like Talau or Momers playing up the middle.

Having a full preseason and a fully fit Shawn Blore in our squad, then throw in James Tamou who are both keen trainers .. you see players like Stefano Utoikamanu, Thomas Mikaele, Zane Musgrove and Alex Twal all stepping up .. then we'll have a pretty big and keen pack of pigs. I'm keen to see Kelma Tuiagi stepping up into the backrow for us ..I can see a good combination between him and Blore developing into a pretty mean pair .. !! Others will be Leilua, Garner , Packer, and Bradley.

They key to getting this pack moving forward, will be who plays and leads them successfully from dummy half .. either Jacob Little or Jake Simpkins.

Hows this for a starting forward pack:

Tamou
Liddle
Musgrove
Blore
Leilua
Twal

Bench:
Mikaele
Utoikamanu
Tuilagi

Blores attitude in particular has impressed me, always has positive things to say about the club and looks keen to rip in. I think Mikaele is in for a big year aswell after a disappointing 2020

He needs a big pre-season. his fitness wasnt up to it last year and he was gassed early in each game.

Knee injury recovery and no reserve grade would have made it tough on him last year

Don’t see Tuilagi playing (he can’t until round 16), Garner will be there Somewhere starting or on the bench. It’s a better looking forward pack than years past shame about Aloiai

The game has moved past the ball playing lock.

Victor Radley, Jake Trbojevic and Cameron Murray say Hi!

All three have attributes much better than their passing game. Radley and Trbojevic are excellent defenders and Murray is a try scorer. Sure they do some ball playing but they’re n it ball playing locks end of the day they’re work horse forwards who do some ball playing. Not like Momers who just isn’t a forward

I reckon his knee had a lot to do with it (as been mentioned) hence why he was probably eased in. Full pre season should do him wonders

The position of Lock always and is still a defensive position, if they can slip people through a hole, get the ball quickly to outside players or offload to another forward that is a bonus (ala Raper, Price, Clyde. Pearce etc) - I am not talking an extra 5/8 here - the three I named above in my mind can do all those things therefore I term them "ball playing locks."

I would be quite happy to have them playing lock for us rather than Twal etc.

Just to clear a point - Momo is not a lock, not a winger, not a FB - he is a centre and I did not mention him in my post about ball playing locks.

Can someone tell me the average years a player has in first grade? I know they all want to win a premiership, but why wait on the bench behind other players when you can get more $ elswhere? If you can get an extra $100,000 at another club ,go for it.YOU may only have a few years at the top, make hay while the sun shines.Forget loyalty it won,t pay your biils.League is a business ,clubs will drop you if you do not perform.

Totally agree with that but they should see out their contract, as should clubs.

Obviously it’s an advantage if they can pass a little same for any forward. I think we just call it different things for me a ball playing lock is someone who does majority ball playing which you don’t really see. Jake T has done it a lot this year actually but I think it’s hurt his game at manly doing it

Yes that was not your idea at all. Someone else suggested him playing up the middle

Just a suggestion with Talua and Momo's not trying a Sheenius selection.

Bradley Clyde was the best lock I have seen play since 1977. To me he had everything a team could need of a lock. For such a great player but was hopeless as a makeshift centre when he was forced to play there.
Yes Raiders are my second team after WT.

Cam Murray is my favourite current lock. Would love to sign him but pipe dream. UI

Just had some thoughts on Madge and an extension
Its well known that Bellamy is in his last year before retirement
The same year Madge finishes his current contract with us
Mage worked under Bellamy if I am correct
That both have a hard line approach and expect results
Both have a temper
Madge did very well managing Grant this year and knows his game
I heard Cameron Smith do an interview on Cairns radio this morning and he spoke how well Grant did at the Tigers this year
Is that an endorsement to try and get Madge to step into Bellamy's shoes
The timing is perfect for Melbourne and Madge
Harry preformed very well under Madge which would put Madge in a great position for the vacant coaching roll at Melbourne
Its not good for us at all if you think about it
I like what Madge has done for us and things look from the outside like we are planning for the future
I for one hope Madge stays and we lock him up soon
Real soon before the papers start writing stories linking Madge to Melbourne

I should add this is obviously purely speculation on my part but let's see if one of the drongos in the media try and run with it

Valid point but from what has been written Madge and the Club have already agreed on a 2 year extension but needs to be formalized, and i think is the type of person that sticks by his word not like Cleary.

I would have thought Bellamy's transition might actually be to Cameron Smith.

RE GRN,,I know where your coming from, but its not my heart thinking Madge won,t go to Storm, its logic.Siebold to the Donkeys was a disaster and he has gone from best coach to zero.If Madge only has reasonable sucess at Tigers his reputation remains. If he fails at Storm and does,nt make at least top 4 its a disaster just like Siebold.

Madge going to Storm would be a no win situation for him.***He strikes me as a very proud and smart man and likes to climb his own mountain***, not get in at the top .At the storm he can only go down.

You’re speaking with your heart here, not your head. You WANT to believe he’s that kind of person. In reality you have no idea. Don’t make the same mistake everyone made with Cleary. He walked on water when he coached us. When he gave up a kidney for his brother, everyone wanted him sainted. This is a business, these guys will ultimately do what’s best for them. There’s nothing at all to suggest Madge’s character is any greater than previous coaches who stabbed us in the back. The lesson I guess, is keep these guys at arms length emotionally.

That's very true we need to see the paperwork Signed and i am unsure why it just can't be signed prior to Pre-season training starting next week.

If i was to chase any coach it would be John Morris (Sharks) as has not been offered a contract extension and has done a good job with the sharks making the 8 these past few season with also some under performing players and is not adverse to telling players what he thinks in a non media manner.
Ex WT player as well and knows the club structure.

This posting goes back to 2016 from the ABC.

Since 1959 :-

*36% of players have played fewer than 10 first-grade games.

*56.8 % played less than 30 top-grade games.

*82.2% per cent played less than 100.

*The average career is 49 first-grade games and 4.2 years.

Out of every single player who has spent most of their youth pursuing a dream, those that actually go on to making a proper living out of the game is minimal.

Please also consider these stats :-

* Players out of the game after a year (depending on injuries, suspensions etc): 65%

* Out of the game after two years: 75%

* Out of the game after five years: 88%

The reality is that Kids who aspire to become first grade footballers more often than not, do not realize that failure is a high possibility. The assumption that players go on to have long careers and make heaps of money is entirely false!

Out of the 20-25 or so kids that come through each year, aspiring to be first grade players, usually two or three of the 20 players might go on to play first grade. Of those that play first grade, only 20 per cent have a career longer than four years. Of those, probably half make a good living out of the game.
