A few years ago I remember the average NRL career was around 30 games. Not sure what it is now.
This posting goes back to 2016 from the ABC.
Since 1959 :-
*36% of players have played fewer than 10 first-grade games.
*56.8 % played less than 30 top-grade games.
*82.2% per cent played less than 100.
*The average career is 49 first-grade games and 4.2 years.
Out of every single player who has spent most of their youth pursuing a dream, those that actually go on to making a proper living out of the game is minimal.
Please also consider these stats :-
* Players out of the game after a year (depending on injuries, suspensions etc): 65%
* Out of the game after two years: 75%
* Out of the game after five years: 88%
The reality is that Kids who aspire to become first grade footballers more often than not, do not realize that failure is a high possibility. The assumption that players go on to have long careers and make heaps of money is entirely false!
Out of the 20-25 or so kids that come through each year, aspiring to be first grade players, usually two or three of the 20 players might go on to play first grade. Of those that play first grade, only 20 per cent have a career longer than four years. Of those, probably half make a good living out of the game.

Many years ago on the ABC they were talking to Bennett, Sheens and Warren Ryan and talking about the above and all three said the returns on outstanding juniors was like winning lotto. They said sometimes your forced down that road, but if you want instant success you have to buy players who are proven and played over 100 games

Both of these clubs are very easy to dislike.
