That doesnt make sense to me. Can you elaborate on that logic?

I thought it made sense. If Eels get Mansour, it means Panthers get him off their books. Isn't that what the Panthers want? What do they care who takes him.

It makes sense that Penrith want to get Mansour off their books, but how does it makes sense that it leads to the release of Laurie. If anything it would make sense that they hang onto him. If Mansour leaves they would be short a quality outside back. Makes no sense to let another one go, particularly when Laurie is on a Devt contract and provides depth without impacting the cap.

So if either we take Mansour or Eels do (or another team other than Panthers) , will they still be interested in releasing Laurie? Maybe for a Cini swap it seems?

It makes sense of the Panthers offer us the early release of Laurie as motivation to take Mansour off their books, but to me makes no sense to let Laurie go if Parra take him.

Yeah everything you've said there makes sense.

I have read it several times (here and in the speculative media) that if Wests Tigers take Mansour then Panthers may also release Laurie, but I don't understand why. The reasoning doesn't make sense to me, for exactly the reasons you've stated above.

Hopefully Panthers lose Crichton, or at least another club puts a massive public offer to him and they think they might lose him, maybe then they'll let Laurie go to make some more room. But even then, probably not, as he's on a development contract with them, so I don't think he's even under their salary cap.

Because Penrith REALLY want to get rid of Mansour from the books and are using the Laurie early as bait. If Parra or anyone else take him, the bait is not necessary.

I don’t see how they relate?

Cini for Laurie will be back on the table.

I just don’t see how the release of mansour means anything for coni and laurie

To get what they want, which is Mansour off the books. If Parra take Mansour, no need to release Laurie, in fact it would erode their depth for no salary cap benefit.

Mansour and Crichton are off contract at the same time...

They won’t be re-signing Mansour regardless so don’t see how that effects their efforts to retain Crichton...they could upgrade 2021 but they will still need to throw a fair bit at him from 2022 onwards

Can’t play till rd 16. If the cini swap is on the table you would think that would be a better long term option. Or even another fringe first grader for that matter

Not sure that’s how the chips will fall.
With Mansour off their hands Cleary has cap space to resign Stephen Crichton and no reason to release or swap Laurie.
So anyway, that’s how I see it.

Agreed we would be helping them lock up their juniors and getting nothing out of it

Laurie can play prior to Rd 16 if they get injuries in that position, therefore he provides that depth at zero cost to the salary cap.

I know I will be severely in the minority here, but I think Jack bird will actually have a pretty good season down in the gong. I think he has 1 or two seasons of really good footy left in him and now would be the time to let rip. I don't think he could have worked with our roster but I reckon come this time next year there will be a few people on here suggesting we throw good money at him. Anyway just speculation for speculation sake

You do realise that he has reportedly major arthritic problems which makes him unlikely to be of any realistic benefit to a club on the field?

Bird could have been anything. If he has any sort of luck with injury he will be up there abouts in origin again for sure

However he is a Berkeley boy at heart so I think he will finish his career at Illawarra provided he isn’t in the situation where he needs to medically retire

So on the 7th we expect the signings of the mystery prop , Mansour , Curtis Rona , Brandon Smith .Junior Junior and both Crichtons

Yep, that's only 48 hours, so I think you are correct.
