Wow, we're going back to 2018 to find a decent Mbye game. Says it all.

Injured in 2019 and played out of position in 2020, he is the best fullback in the club is all most on here are saying.

Everyone is pretty harsh on Mbye.
He is a solid player... the only reason people are upset at him is because we are paying big $$$... (thanks Ivan)
At the end of the day, it's not Mbye's fault. I'd take that payday also...

He will be just as pretty when he retires, because he stays out of the fireing line. With close to 4 mil in his pocket he's laughing.

Mbye’s only position in this team is 14.. this is a very important position as a game progresses do not underestimate the value he will be in that position!

It’s important we get Laurie over this year. He’s a rookie but we have no fullback. Mbye is a elite 14 very versatile and not many players can play Fullback, Halves, Outside backs and hooker as well. He’s not a starter at any position but capable at many.

The other thing is he won’t get another big contract being a bench player and may take a cut to get an opportunity elsewhere.

Yep. If we get Laurie, mbye will hold the #1 for a while, but might soon find himself in 14 or covering injuries.

He would have to be the best sub in the league given he could play 1-7 & 9 with great skill.

Best is a bit of a stretch...I reckon there would be quite a few that could play better

Name 1 team that would have a better 14?

Are we talking specifically 14 or just players that can play multiple positions?

Ben Hunt, Tyrone May, Tyrone Peachey, Brandon Smith, Cameron Munster off the top of my head

I reckon all those players are much better utilities if used that way.

Cameron Munster is arguably the best player in the NRL so I don’t think you can play him at 14. I’d rather Mbye than Hunt and May

Ben Hunt is severely overrated but he’s better than Mbye imo

He’s terrible.

Yep. Says a lot about mbye

You’re only saying that because you’re a Momirovskiist

Lol... Don't you mean Momirovskivite?

What exactly are the skills that make Mbye a better fullback option than.........well just about any other back in the club.
He's lost his speed. He doesn't break tackles or make line breaks. He has no ball skills. He can't catch. His defence is sub standard. His poor goal kicking puts the team under pressure..........Did I miss anything?

You forgot to mention that you are not a great judge of a player.

He did his MCL in the trial in 2019 and took 12 months to recover from it, if he never got injured decent chance we aren’t looking for a fullback

I don't think he is an elite fullback but believe he is capable in the position.

Ooooh... so he recovered from that and that's why he's catching them with his knees...?

I've stated before, I don't think he's a bad player, but his performances are not commensurate with his price tag.
He is a capable player whose hands under a high ball have let him, and the team, down.
He will do until we organise a better option at the back.
The comment I made was tongue in cheek.
Having said that, how do we know if one of our young-uns couldn't do a similar or better job if given the chance? But his all-round experience is certainly an advantage at this stage in proceedings.

I’m not the biggest mbye fan either but admittedly he was wasted for large chunks of last year in the centres. His biggest asset (creating an overlap with that sweeping backline play), and passing game was non-existent. He also has a kicking game that could take pressure off Brooks on occasion.

Happy for him to be given first crack this year, and make me eat my words

I pretty much agree with most of this post, none of our young player could do a better job because none of them a fullbacks. Kepaoa could maybe transition to fullback in the future but it is too much to put on him this early.

True, gets you thinking though about how we could leave such an important position with no contingency plan.

To the Mbye supporters......Can any of you point me to the game that Mbye played well in during his time at the club. I don't remember any.
You'll need to back up your comments with relevant statistics.
Now go to it and overwhelm me with his many stellar performances.

I suppose yeah he hasn't statistically had any wowzer games off the top of my head. He has however had good stints at fullback where he was organising it like a maestro. Billy Slater even made comments about how he thought Mbye was as good as Tedesco in the NRL at that part of the game.
