Mole Warning:

Wests Tigers are set to make Dragons skipper Cameron McInnes as their number one target for 2022.

McInnes met with Tigers coach Michael Maguire at a Maroubra cafe last week - and it's a safe bet they weren't talking about Christmas presents. The pair have a long association - McInnes was selected for his NRL debut under Maguire at Souths in 2014.

The tough-talking coach knows only too well the all-round value of McInnes, who starred for the Dragons despite another disappointing campaign for the club in 2020. McInnes comes off contract at the end of next season and while the Dragons are keen to retain him, he is set to test his value in the open market.

With star youngster Harry Grant moving back to Melbourne, the Tigers will start next season with two young hookers in Jacob Liddle and Billy Walters.

Maguire wants more experience in the key dummyhalf role and McInnes would be an ideal player to lead the talented young Tigers team in years to come.

(Clearly Moley doesn’t know Walters will be unavailable early in the season)

McInnes did his ACL at training. Sad for him, but we missed signing a hooker coming back off long term injury.

Edit: oops beaten to it.

**BREAKING: Dragons skipper ruptures ACL at training, ruled out for season in cruel blow**

Mark St John
February 12, 2021 1:35pm

Dragons skipper and Sharks 2022 signing Cameron McInnes is out for the season after rupturing his ACL at training.

The 27-year-old is due to join the Sharks at the end of the season on a four-year-deal to play lock, but was rumoured to be a chance of moving earlier after falling out of favour at the Dragons.

“Cameron McInnes has ruptured ACL at training today. Scans confirm he’ll be out for the season,” Lara Pitt tweeted.

“St George Illawarra have provided the following injury update on Cameron McInnes, who has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament,” the club confirmed in a statement.

“McInnes suffered the injury during a training session on Friday morning.

“The 27-year-old is yet to undergo follow up consultations to establish the next steps in his recovery and return to play time frame.”

McInnes chose to move to the Sharks on a long-term deal after admitting that the Dragons timeline didn’t match his own in terms of securing a new contact.

The Dragons are set to bring Broncos No.9 Andrew McCullough to the club with his signing now imperative for Griffin, who is suddenly without an experienced hooker one month out from the start of the 2021 season.

Ben Hunt could play at No.9 where he has excelled at club level in recent times and for the Maroons in Origin, but Griffin would prefer him to play at halfback.

The Dragons also have Billy Brittain on their books, but the 26-year-old has just seven games experience to his name.

McInnes has scored 17 tries in 130 games for the Rabbitohs and Dragons since his debut in 2014.

The hooker once touted as a Blues prospect has now played the last of his 91 games for the Dragons.

HOT TAKE: Ivan leaving the Tigers was one of the best things that ever happened to the club.

Now that’s an understatement.

Can someone post the Ivan Cleary article in the SMH about a trade window.

I tried to post it but the pages were stuck together from all of Ivan’s crocodile tears.

This could be the start of some player movement McCulough to Saints Walters to Broncos and maybe someone from Broncos to WT.

You would have to think Saints are desperate now for McCulloch...

Which would open up Walters to the Broncs.

McInnes out for the year, ruptured knee .FOX NEWS.
Feel sorry for the guy,but Tigers dodged a bullet. With Mitchell looking like a sack of potatoes as well, they are 2 marquee signings i'm glad we ducked.

Absolutely feel for McInnes, its a terrible thing to happen anytime, let alone in preseason....
His injury now throws a spanner in the works as far as recruitment goes,it appears anything is possible as far as purchases go and who needs who in certain positions....

im hoping for that. isaako would be nice

Stgeorge would need to pay full freight now to get McCullough
I dont see Broncos releasing McCullough and Isaako
They are very thin as it is
Brisbane would need someone in return
And not just walters

If I were the Dragqueens, I’d go hard for Walters, he can play 9...and would stick it up the broncos for playing hardball for McCollough

Donkeys signed Danny Levi to a second tier contract a few weeks back. Not sure if that halts Walters going there or not.
