Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Mikaele was playing injured most of last year.

He’s got deficiencies but the potential is there. I’d keep him if his demands are not silly.

Mikaele is a young forward who has been thrown to the wolves. Most if not all young props begin their careers off the bench and play a small amount of minutes. Due to our poor pack in recent years Mikaele has been the main man the Tigers have looked at to make metres. No senior forwards leading the way at all in recent years. He will be a completely different player with big senior forwards around him

Well he better, because he's going to be quickly overtaken otherwise.

Thought he looked very determined on Sunday. May have dropped down the pecking order a bit and knows he needs to step up. Good luck to him. Won’t be easy to make our top 17 this year

The transfer for Walters has gone a bit quiet too. I wonder if it was dependant on getting an early release for hastings

Beoncos are quite happy to let him rehab here at the Tigers.

Kevvie said as much in an interview earlier in the off season.

If.the trials have shown us anything we dont need Hastings

So if Liddle goes down you are hally for a 19 yr old to play 80 mins every week all year

Walters can’t play for a while anyway.
Mbye would probably slot into the hooker role.

It’s definitely a make or break year for Thomas Mikaele...

I don’t think his developed or advanced his game at all since he came on the scene, personally I’d let him walk (he just gives the impression of being disinterested) and go after someone like Jordan Riki we have an abundance of props that play with a lot more heart then Tom.

I agree..

Ever since his brother Aloai left he’s been abit disinterested, I could probably see him going to Manly in the future.. but he is a local bronco.

I rate the bloke, but has such a bad attitude..

Really?

he took a couple of hits ups in a set multiple times, held the ball and even got a sneaky offload away.

Maybe he was trying to impress his "bro" maybe it was the coach

I think gebbie is on a development contract yeah?

Train n trial

That's an odd one. How is that going to work given he's missed the training and trialling?

supercoach loop?

Mikaele didn’t have the best year in 2020, but Jesus some fans have short memories, he was strong in 2019! He can be a great of the bench player for us. Meter eater, if he’s injury free and playing with our new big pack all I can see is a good year ahead. Also no bubble so he can his young one all the time. He’ll have a good year.

If the Tigers let Billy go after the start of the competition he is still counted in our 30 man squad, plus we don’t have to pay him if he goes after round 1.

Agreed.

You play better when you feel good and he will benefit playing around a better and bigger forward pack. People calling for him to leave are off their head. The kid can play.

There would be many well performed clubs after a prop the calibre of Mikaele. He is young for a first grade prop. Also he has his act together not like his former Keebra team mate at the Broncs.

I expect a big year from Mikaele he witnessed what clubs will pay for his mate Josh A. No doubt with competition for spots, he will be putting his best foot forward to look after his own best interests.

All our middle forwards are going to be under pressure. Stef, Mikaele, Tuki Simpkins and Musgrove can all have an impact. Twal, Joe O and Tamou are good but more workers.

I'd play Tuki Simpkins off the bench and at lock. I reckon he looks heaps better than Twal at lock. I suppose you play both of them for the moment.

Someone is missing out. I reckon Mikaele deserves a bench spot based on his trial form.

I agree, injury-free he should be good. I also think the comp for spots will make him hungrier as he isn't a walk up start. Heres hoping he has a cracker year

Tuki has an X factor about him.

Don’t know what it is but you can just tell this guy knows how to throw his weight around - and I love it!

Tuki,--- I liked the signing, and like most others thought mid year at earliest for the top grade. Could him and Steff join Lucy as rare finds?

WESTS TIGERS EYEING HANDY BACK-UP

Journeyman hooker Zach Dockar-Clay is getting close to earning a deal with the Wests Tigers.

The 25-year-old former Junior Kiwi, who has had stints at the Eels, Panthers, Hull KR and Blacktown, could be a useful back-up for Michael Maguire with his ability to play both hooker and halfback.

He has yet to play in the NRL but looked good in his stint in England, helping Hull KR achieve promotion to Super League in his one season at the club in 2017.
