The way I see it:

Moses Mbye leaves the club at the end of this year, we pay half of his salary to leave.

Jackson Hastings moves into the 14 role

Thoughts?

Can't believe we would pay 50% of Mbye's salary to play elsewhere. We then buy a player of Mybe's ability with the other 50% and we are no better off.

That's what I was confused by yesterday too.

If Mbye isn't in our future plans why keep him around? We will probably end up with a little extra cash left over from it anyway and we are looking towards the future.

For everyone saying “whats the risk if he is on low money?”, firstly we dont know what money he is on and secondly, regarless of the money he is on, he is another half/5/8/utility on the roster and it prevents us buying another 6/7/14 because there is a finite number you can have in the 30.

I don't see it that way. The proposition you quote "if" he is on low money is fair enough. We don't know how much he is being paid, but "if" it is not much then it minimises the risk. It would be out of character for the club to pay overs.

He may be "another half/5/8/utility" but Walters will not be here next year and it is possible that Mbye will be gone also. So getting a utility for 2022 seems sensible.

I view him as a replacement for Walters. We will have to wait and see if he turns out to be an astute acquisition.

Exactly ..... he’s an upgrade on both Walters and Mbye at reduced price.
We go forward with Brooks, Madden, Doueihi and Hastings plus Ben Stevanovic & Kade Hill are not bad prospects for the future.

How is our salary cap going these days? If we get rid of Packer, BJ and Mbye(50%) this year wht are we looking at? What was Brooks resigned on? 700k?

Well we have 700k left in this yrs cap. We have Packers 750k, BJs 600k and probably 400k of Mbye coming off plus a few others where we dont save much because their replacement would be on similar money for similar level. But effectively we have 2.5m over 5 spots.

However the other consideration is that we will need to upgrade our yiung stars for 2023 if not earlier - Laurie, Stefano, Simpkins, Blore all signed as young non nrl players will be resigned as rising stars of the NRL so we some of it will need to go to them plus Luciano will need a signifcant upgrade

Agree completely. We need to make sure we have the coin to upgrade and extend our young stars. The pom mentioned we were in talks with extending both LL and JS.

For those questioning his **commitment and attitude** after reading what his current bosses at Wigan said about him then here's some quotes from the Salford coach and management...

So let me get this straight ... you’re confirming his commitment by his tenure at 2 super league clubs
... one he left after one and a half seasons, and the other after signing an NRL contract midway through his 2nd club?

Yep sounds really committed to me.

What was your favourite fairy tale to read as a kid?

He’s not a kid anymore.
Maybe you still are.

I bet you enjoyed the BJ and Roberts fluff articles ... can’t wait for the same with Hastings.

Well aren’t you the negative Nancy!

This clubs awful recruitment apart from the odd diamond in the roughies might make some people feel that way about these type of signings

I’m glad you accept mediocrity though. I think we can aim higher that’s all

I think you made your point .... over and over again.
Now give us all a rest and pick another item as your favourite target.

Hastings is a decent buy. Good value I believe.

To grow as a club, we're really going to need to find the diamonds in the rough and grow from within using our junior base. The big names are unlikely to want to come to us yet (although, it seems we're at least trying).

When we're in the top 8 and have some decent facilities, then we may see that shift.

Hastings coming means mbye may have some departure plans confirmed.

I don't necessarily think that we will be paying half of Mbye's contract for him to play elsewhere. I think his release request story was to see what teams would be desparate enough to take him at cost. If we are paying for him next year I think he will still be wearing the 14.
Otherwise a mutually agreed outcome will be achieved. I still think Donkeys may have an eye on him...

Where we think Moses end up hope he leaves parra.

I don't think he will.

Surely broncos finally have a big play at him.

You would think so, but i don't think Moses or Parra have an appetite for change at the moment.

I think we may get away with paying very little of Moses' contract if in fact he is able to secure a longer term deal. It may be he is happy to walk away from the last year to get a guaranteed 2 more on top.

Naden held talks with Barrett yesterday, doggies are keen apparently according to Brent Read

Just what they need .... Another back :face_palm: :face_palm:
I'm Glad they are spending big on backs as that leaves them below us ..

If they get Naden I would be happy for us to enquire about Will Hoppa or even DWZ at a reduced rate. Both are good players in the right team.

Once the spin doctors have finished his makeover, CK will provide reports of him walking on Lake Illawarra. And if that doesn't occur it will be Brooks' fault.
