I'd definitely extend Liddle. He offers excellent depth, and if he does want to leave, we can potentially use him as a bargaining chip just like the storm and panthers

Yes but would he agree to terms like that?

They wouldn't be the terms...

So you would pay overs for someone as a backup? I thought we were past that.

He is a certain starter at clubs going better than us, so I completely see why he would agree to whatever terms at a club at the bottom of the table that he has to fight for a starting position...

Who said anything about overs? All I said was it would be great to sign both. Liddle would be a great backup or alternatively, a great bargaining chip...

Isn't Brandon Smith a certain starter at most clubs? Aren't we allowed to follow the storm blueprint? If there was any club in the comp I'd want to mimic, it's the storm.

why did he offer latrell $300,000 more then other clubs, latrell turned him down

Because Latrell is a talent but he didn't want to or wouldn't be able to handle the pressure of being our marquee signing. So he went to a team of champions instead at the bunnies instead of taking up the pressure of being the main man at the tigers.

Wouldn’t he be the main man at south’s though?

They have an experienced top level spine that plays around him. He only pops up in those attacking situations where he needs to, with us he would be forced to do everything. He specifically said the fact we've got a spine who's not played together was a factor in him not joining

I don't reckon, they're pretty alright without him. He adds to the team but he's hardly the only or main strike weapon of the team. It's not like how Turbo turns Manly from cellar dwellers into an actual force.

I was more talking about the off field poster boy stuff he is the face of South Sydney

as for the on field stuff he blends in well and could have been the difference for them in the prelim final, but yeah isn’t a major reason why they’re going great guns I agree

Seems like he doesn't mind the spotlight, does a lot of positive work. Probably unavoidable for him no matter what club he goes to, especially with how he plays.

I’m aware of how good they are
I’ve had to put up with my nauseating boss for the last 4 years who supports them lol ?

I'm off all of this. We have one of the best junior pathway setups going around. We continuously unearth insane talent. Our best way out of this is to just make sure that we identify, retain and develop our best kids. There's no use signing dregs from elsewhere when we have to overpay for anyone worth a damn.

To go along with our existing pathways in Sydney and surrounds add:

1 - Strong Northern Hemisphere rep/scout (give us some of those Pommies that Canberra unearthed to overcome their own recruitment problems)
2 - Strong NZ scout - We may have that covered I dunno, but I am sure that we could improve.
3 - Strong regional QLD scout - The QLD clubs are missing on a ton of talented kids there.
4 - SE Qld/Northern NSW scout - Northern NSW is a goldmine of untapped talent imo.

he is off contract 2021 so no bargaining chip he can sign wherever he likes nothing to do with the club

the only way madge is going to buy someone decent is to go to england, because no one in australia wants to play for him, what ever went wrong at souths, no one decent wants to play for him, how does a winning coach, get sacked a year later, something isnt right, lets get benji and farrah back as dual coaches, players love these two guys and they are westigers thru and thru, give them a go

Yeh right!

After week of turmoil the Wests Tigers are making enquiries about respected Wigan and Great Britain centre Oliver Gildart. Coach Michael Maguire is an admirer of his ability.

If we pull this off, it seems like we’re trying to take the raiders route. Probably a good idea

didn't we look at Goldart last year or in 2019 ?

I think you will find it is not Madge‘s call about players, it’s Hartigan’s.

I’m a bit iffy on English outside backs. Every Pom that has had success over here in the modern game have been forwards.

i agree with bringing our young talent thru, and keeping the good talent here, we need people who can understand talent and that we need to do everything in our powers to keep them here, what ever the cost, we also need good assistant coaches who can teach these players to reach there potential, this is why we need people like benji and farrah at the club, teaching these players, the players will listen to these guys

Good post. Also a PNG scout. PNG is a developing nation where comms and transport services are problematic. Talent goes undiscovered.
