Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I'm actually coming around a little. I assume he'll just play ISP and cover for injuries. Still think we could have done better though.

Not sure I understand letting a low cost young utility like Marshall King go and signing a never has been 29 year old Goodinet. Real head scratcher but at minimum wage no real issue. I assume this means we are holding one spot with 700-800k in cap room for next year.

Agree with this. Would have preferred Marshall-king to fill this utility/hooker spot and give him the chance to train with his bro. Obviously Ivan didn’t think he had what we need.

Seriously if we were injury ravaged and the 3rd or 4th hooker or half went down you would go for a 22 yr old who has played 1 FG game and other then that never made it out of reserve grade over a 29 yr old with 60+ games of first grade across Australia and NZ across halves and hooker and who has made his debut under our coach who clearly knows and values him and who has also played previously at hooker with our 2 starting props. Well I am glad Ivan is coach not you guys because thats crazy

I doubt he'll see any first grade

Hmmm. Depending on what our first grade bench looks like next year. If we run with two hookers then Pita would be next in line if injury strikes Liddle or Mcilwrick. If we run with a utility on bench and Benji spends time in nrl, then Pita may be playing in halves and next up should injury strike any of our halves.

I think we needed a utility like this to cover spine. Whether he is the right guy for that spot I don’t know.

I still think we are pretty short of depth for fullback and hoping our final signing is a strike back in the 1-5.

You forgot about Tyson Gamble…..

I love Benji, but have you seen the guy play the last few years. Its not like im comparing him to Benji circa 2005.

As far as an on field signing goes, i'd argue he's a better signing than Benji.

I’ll have what ^^^ is having

If you take the objectivity out of the signing I'd rate Godinet at about the same level as McIllwrick

I think McIllwrick was a reasonable signing in the end , so we can only hope that Godinet worst case can at least match MM

Let's just be clear here… Godinet has only played 20 nrl games. He then has another 41 games of ESL experience. Also, he turns 30 in a couple of weeks.

NO I didn’t, would be pretty surprised if a rookie got a run over Pita if we needed a halves or utility replacement.

He did some pretty good things in 2017:

Fair points. But you could also make statements that Marshall king would be more familiar with current squad than godinet. Abs I said in other post I think we needed this type of signing but if we were after a stop-gap utility hooking option I would have preferred to invested in something that might have more long term trade off. Anyway, I think Pita will do the job asked if him, whatever that ends up being and he is a good buy for a min contract.

Not questioning Ivan he has formed a good squad and a backup utility is not going to make a real difference either way. We will be in trouble if he is playing first grade. I’d rather a younger player with upside that said He would be cheap and is probably a solid ISP player.

Garbage signing …How many backups do we need in each position ?

Utility = a player that is crap at whatever position he plays .

Pascoe needs to lay off the tweets

Don't know much about him, watched the above clips doesn't look horrible and probably not a bad signing as depth. Wouldn't have cost the earth.

Considering Liddle, brooks Reynolds, mackilrick have injury history, Benji is getting on and Tui is suggested fullback, gamble no 1st grd experience.
