Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yep, Woods had a shocker in the third SOO, and you could argue all day long about how he compares to other props past and present - but history will show that he has played at the highest level on numerous occasions more than many of his counterparts and is still only 26 yrs old which does count for something, and for all his knockers - you cant argue about that.

There’s a reason woods still makes the Australian and NSW teams.

Well he made the Australian side because a certain Matt Scott was out injured

As for NSW have a serious look at how many series you blokes have won in the last 12 years

If Gallen played prop ( as he should of Woods probably doesn't make the starting NSW side until this year )

Qld found him out in Game 2 and 3 as he doesn't work hard enough and gets found out laterally on the inside plays

I will never forget him getting steamrolled by Justin O'Neill. Though, that isn't half as embarrassing as running down your current club for being a basket case, then going on and signing with a club who sacked their coach 4 months later.

Woods' problem in origin is that he flaps about trying to milk a penalty instead of just getting a quick play the ball. I reckon next year Fittler goes with RCG, McLean, Klemmer and Vaughan as his props, with Jake T to play lock.
In saying that Woods is a good prop at NRL level.

I really don't know what Woods has to do to please some people. Over the past few years he hardly played a bad game for us, played long minutes and was extremely durable. On the rep stage he was much the same, okay he had a average 3rd SOO game, but was brilliant in game 1, and from what I saw of the World cup he was our best front rower. I think his loss is twice that of Tedesco.

Okay he is thick as a brick and said some pretty dumb things and IMO has made a pretty dumb move going to the dogs, but I still rate him highly as a footballer and I think we will miss him and his personality

I for one wish we still had him, he and Chris Lawrence and Brooks are the last players to come through the grades at WT, ( stand corrected if I’ve missed someone) next year we will have a team made up of mainly mercenary Kiwis who are playing for the bucks, they would never consider having 2041 tattooed on their body, so I hope Ivan has a means of committing them to a team, mentally as well as physically

Agreed in hindsight JT should not have made him captain and it turned out to a poor decision but on the field he was a stalwart for the club.He will be missed he was our best forward for years and had little support.

Couldn’t agree more.
Has always pitched in for the tigers and yeah everyone has a bad game here and there, his decision to jump ship i thought a bad one( because of the team he chose) but when there was a sniff he may backflip a lot of people I know who are tigers fans hoped he would…you don’t have that sort of hope for a player not rippin in for your team.

Well there is Sauaso Sue, Moses Suli, Jacob Liddle and Benji Marshall still from our junior base..

Then again the focus on junior development in the past few years whilst something to be proud of hasn't really translated to much on-field success…

The recruitment of mercenaries as you say is a step in a different direction for Wests Tigers..we have bought in more first grade experience than we ever have since early 2000's players from Clubs that have had success as well as representative players....IMO that can only be positive for the youth we have in our squad..

Momo and Medo, whichever one I am talking too, the shift to mercenary Kiwis and other islanders will create a short term fix, not a long term solution, you only have to look at the Warriors, why they haven’t one at least one premiership I’ll never know, if Cleary leaves or is sacked after a couple of years, we’ll be back to now, no one in the club who knows what west tigers are or mean, unfortunately you need a large percentage of mainlanders in your team as well for when the going gets tough

Both ….. well we definitely needed to try something different. And I really think that we definitely have a coaching improvement ..... from what I saw from the team towards the end of last year.
I also think that successful clubs just no longer rely on local production lines. We got well and truly burned there.
Anyway proof in the pudding but this is not a short term project.

Nofo? Can't see him getting a 2041 tattoo though, maybe a 2560.

What I really don't understand is the hate for him from other teams supporters! You can understand with WT supporters, to a point, because of the way he exited here, but he is bagged out mercilessly in comments when ive read around some other online league news stuff.

I thought he was good during the World Cup, I don't know what people are expecting. He's not a game breaker Fifita type of prop, he never has been. He's a worker and he and Klemmer did their job well getting the Aussies on the front foot every match - that's why Mal kept picking them. I can't see much between Woods and Klemmer tbh, yet after every game everyone was saying Woods was crap and should be dropped while Klemmer was deemed to be the greatest :crazy

These same people think the sun shines out of Moses's arse btw, so they couldn't have just been bagging Woods because of how he treated us during his departure (why would they care anyway?) otherwise Moses would've copped it more. No, everyone thinks Moses is great and should be playing in Origin next year - go figure.

Back to Woods, I still don't get the hate outside of here - he's a consistent & decent player, seems like a bit of a larrikin, enjoys a laugh and as far as I know hasn't bashed or raped anyone or got so drunk and tried to root a dog, yet he's viewed worse than any of the players who have! I guess people don't like long hair anymore - ah bring back the seventies!

How could Nofoaluma slip my mind..I shall go stand in the naughty corner..

Point is though sole focus on Junior development hasn't led to much success..I think that 3/4 of our development players have come from other junior systems is also a change of direction..

Mercenaries ???
Which ones, the ones who left us, or the ones who joined us!?

Every professional NRL footballer plays for payment.
Loyalty for a cause can be maybe better spoken about on another day, but what is a club to do when player extension contracts are placed before players who then elect to go in another direction.
The club then goes into the market to best replace those now gone.
And all in the light of the commercial reality of the salary cap and all that it means.

As fans, I suggest all we can do is trust those charged with taking us upwards and onwards are making commercially sound recruitment choices, which then translates into gameday success.

That is not to say we fans can't express our collective voices - this forum is always passionate in everything Wests Tigers - we all desire success and a winning team.

Personally, I haven't got a crystal ball but I sure like the approach to this off season, the coming together of the coaches, support staff and the squad as a whole; from my view, it seems the Wests Tigers are really trying to be a united team, each aiming for the same goal.

Such hilarious irony.

I’m getting tired of reminiscing about Woods, Tedesco and Moses, they are all great players but they never had any intention of resigning with the Tigers - it’s a pity they were too gutless to show their hand instead of leading us all on. Lucky Ivan was able to see through them and drew a line in the sand. Woods fell in love with Graham and Klemmer so I can understand him making a lustful decision, the other 2 were BIG HEADS that fell in love with themselves.
Let’s ditch the history and start talking up next year - please, I want that warm and fuzzy feeling back again.
