There is an article in DT about Sheens has emailed all player managers asking for a list of there best off contract players.. Sounds promising and good to see he is not sitting back and waiting to he arrives. He cannot do any worse then we have been doing.

Brilliant, just brilliant.

I see no reason why we are struggling with recruitment that it's taken to put Sheens on to send an email.

I would've hoped, if he asked the recruitment team, they would of had this info?
If the article is true, it sounds like a bit of grandstanding?

Over time bridges burned and stale communication lines can become a road block to progress.

It may just flush out some interest from new players, not yet considered on from both sides of the negotiating table.

That assumes the email is real. Also probably assumes it was never meant to reach the media. Or was it? Too many combinations and permutations to speculate. I would like to think it was sent in good faith.

I'd like to think it was actually sent at all. It shows Sheens is being pro-active.

Who cares if Sheens sent an email.. far out mountain out of a molehill..

Step up for Sheenius Geo ...we don't need to track down a fax machine for 3.55 pm Tuesday

Are we sure that he asked for the right positions of players for the required positions or are we going to end up recruiting Tyrone Peachy for Prop?

A prop that can ball play ...like it

If true, why didn't the club have a list of non-contracted players to give directly to Sheens

Player managers will have more than just off contract players... could be contracted players looking for a move too. If he wanted a list of JUST off contract players he could've used google. It's all about building relationships as well for potential future deals

Seems pretty common practise to me what sheens did, not sure why people are thinking about it so much he's just doing his job

Still dont know the context of the sheens email article, could you suggest player managers don't like dealing with hartigan, pascoe and madge and looking forward to dealing with sheens again?

NRL was approached for clarity on August 1 which may be extended due to COVID…

If they extend it much further the season will be over.

As a WT fan our focus now shifts to hoping we can find some talent for 2022 and beyond to strengthen our squad - there isn’t anyone left to bring in this season.

Sounds embarrassing, shouldn't the club already have this?

I think its more to let them all know he is involved in recruitment now and not just junior pathways.. I like it as he would have many connections that are happy to talk to him unlike ones we have.. Could also be a "Closer" as we need one

I find it funny that you need to email the player managers to find out which players are off contract when NRL.com already have a list.

The only thing that isn’t mentioned is some players might have player options for next year which aren’t public and or some players may be ‘off’ with their club so they could be available with a bit of negotiation.

It would also open up dialogue and reinforce our willingness to bring new players into our system.
However, I would have thoght that this type of communication is already going on.
Maybe it was Sheens putting it out there: I'm back, Wests Tigers are back and different this time.

Maybe sheens has a ‘different’ relationship with the player managers.
He would of still remained in contact through his time at England to scout potential expats so prehaps that’s what it’s about, touching base ans getting a another perspective on where we can move forwards.

What’s also not mentioned is there a players off contract and there are players off contract that would be interested in joining the tigers.

How many people are involved in recruitment? When there is a disagreement, is it scissors, paper, rock to decide who gets the final call?

Managers don't send us their lists, because they know their client won't be interested in us

Not necessarily.
(And I am no way near the inner mechanics of our club.)
But all players are working for $$$
The smart part is to play this game better than the next.

We get these youngsters and leave them in the lower grades and forget about them
and wonder why they get snapped up by other teams under our nose.
Yet other teams have similar talent and they put them in to play NRL.

I dont get why we cant put these guys in , give them 4-5 games of NRL or
even do what the penrith/broncos have done and get all youngsters across the park.
Put them in the deep end , he who swims survives.
We played some of them against the warriors and it was our season pros who let
us down. Go figure.

Ogden . He loves the club wants to stay but hasnt been signed up as yet.
Please dont let this kid get away.
It does my head in.

Like we snapped him up from the Warriors

Thank you for the explanation. My original thought was that the club could/should have been doing more to assist him.
