Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

This Thompson Rumour won't go away.
Apparently we might consider lifting our offer for him and if reports are correct that Dog would pay 200k I think we should give it a go as we have plenty of money.
Dogs in salary cap mess already and even Gus said they only have 1 spot free for next year for a min wage guy. How do the powers at that club justify going all out for TPJ and leaving them in this situation already.

No no no no!
Gus has form in this.

It’s no surprise he was head hunted by the dogs due to how easily he manages to shift high paid players on with no effect to his owns club cap.

This needs to be a deal in our favour!

So what if they are screwed for next year not our problem.

Tell them we will be going after RFM and Jackson on November 1 that will make them consider chucking in more money for Thompson for both his contracted years.

Gus arranged the transfer of Waqa Blake and RCG offering HALF the full contracted amount for both players for length of their previous contract and look which team ended up better off…

I think we need to screw over Cowboys and Bulldogs as much as possible off field. They are the only ones standing between us and the spoon next year.

If we were happy to offer TPJ $750k, then getting this guy at a subsidised $600k is a win for us.he has been the bulldogs best player. All the bulldog supporters I know are filthy at the thought of losing him.

Surprised Staines fizzled this year

He has been terrible. Ivan has been pretty much gifted a team that was built by someone else. He had no idea with recruitment over here and he has no idea with recruitment over there. Letting Laurie and burton go will be big mistakes they will rue in the future.

Can definitely understand the club wanting Thompson, makes a lot of sense for us. He's a quality player, works really hard on the field and actually likes to defend

He likes to get suspended even more.It would not be a winning option for us to have him sitting on the sideline for much of the year. With the carryover points he will continue to acquire it would be a typical dud signing imo

Anyone else think Jason Taumalolo could become available in the off-season?

He's contracted until the end of 2027, and just turned 28, so he'll be 34 in his last season. I'd definitely think about picking up his salary if it was subsidised by the cowboys.

I really hope we don't go there. He's on the downhill slide and there is no way he'll be worth the $1M per season in his final 3 years. I'd only consider him if somehow his current contract was ripped up.

RCG has been pretty damn good since leaving to be fair. Paying him to leave ended up being poor business despite Penrith doing good without him

Staines is so average. Offers literally nothing besides being somewhat fast, is terrible at everything else

Was told by a flegg staff member earlier in the year that Dillon is pound for pound the strongest in the club, he told me he weighs mid 80’s and can bench 160kg and squat close to 200kg. He told me cardio wise he’s in top 3 in whole club. He told me its a massive effort as he has never had an nrl pre season just the odd session here and there, the guy who told me would know, he had something to do with Dillon in sg ball at the dogs before coming here.

Sounds like someone pumping him up. He's highly talented but has still been swatted away in defence in numerous occasions.

I’ve seen Dillon play he’s the fleggs best attacking player looks dangerous every time he’s got the ball yes he does miss tackles but most fullbacks in the nrl are sus in defence massive fan of daine Laurie probably our best player he miss tackles all the time

Daine has to try and tackle ten times the amount of players than any other fullback in the competition due to the amount that are missed by the rest of the team, so he is going to miss more tackles than most fullbacks.

Practice makes perfect though Bathurst tiger lol

He should be better defensively than the entire storm team by round 1 2022 with all the practice he is getting

I wasn't knocking Daine it was a complement that he has to do so much defencive work and is great at it.

Yes I knew you weren't knocking him

I feel like we’ll get him.

lol I don’t. Someone’s bet their appendages on here we won’t and going off tigers recent recruitment, I’d bet similar appendage.

Dogs will not release Thompson unless someone takes Thompson full contract off them they are not willing to pay anything. The Bulldogs are happy to keep him at the club unless a club takes on he’s full contract

I suppose it's not worth bothering then.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but with AD possibly gone for a chunk of the season would it make sense to sign Ash Taylor? (Obviously on nowhere near his current salary)

No paying him / DWZ / Blake the deals they did Was poor business.
RCG is a decent player but was not in that same form at Penrith and they choose a different direction and it paid dividends.
I believe Parra are paying 400k for RCG.
Good deal. But getting him ‘cheap’ still hasn’t helped them get their squad to the same level of competitiveness as Penrith. So I’m stil not sure it was the right deal.

No way bulldogs will be above us next year unless something drastic changes in the squad next year
