Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

For those wanting a Friday pick me up I present Herman Tofaeono. The Qld-U18 prop we've signed from Keebra.

Here's some of his highlights playing for Keebra. Looks like a raging bull with those barnstorming runs.

I watched the first half of Keebra v Palm Beach Currumbin yesterday and sure enough in his first two touches he made a 40m bust and a 30m bust

https://www.instagram.com/p/CSBxgitBAab

Don't know if we can embed Insta video like we can YT??

He also seems to have a bit of swagger. He's been selling his own 'Herman Hustle' merch for a few years now.

Looks to be quite the pickup, and his defence was also good. Hustled in cover defence well.

Mavoni who?

He actually has a similar build to Mavoni and is certainly a handful. Next step is to get him down here and get into the gym and really work on his fitness, he looks a solid prospect.

With the ACL reco for AD, he’ll likely miss the first 8-9 rounds.

Do we sign a half for the short term? There are a few experienced options that could be worth a lifeline 1 year contract.

Mbye LOL 😂

So people on here keep rating Ogden and Dillon as close to the two best of our undefeated Flegg team and Dillon may have gone. Ogdens manager is talking to Qld clubs. Let me get this this straight .We are not buying established players because we are concentrating on player development.
Arguably our two best Flegg players could be signing elsewhere.
I find this incredible . Can’t we even sign our own best young players. Surely this can’t be happening. Who is responsible for this if true ( and it appears likely)? We have plenty of money. Please explain?

We have some very good young players. Besides the two you have mentioned, these players are worth watching

Jordan Hill - wing/fullback
Brandon Tumeth - second row
Fonua Pole - prop
Sione Tupou - prop
Liam Scolari - wing
Kade Hill - halfback
Iverson Fuatimau - centre

I would love if that summer league idea came into fruition this year

Would live to see a few games of our jersey flegg players absolutely carving up the comp

You rate any other young guns man?

I have done a bit of research and a young man who goes very hard is Aden Perry. He comes across as a bit mad which I don’t mind at all and he gives 110% every time I’ve watched him.

If we have trouble attracting big names then let’s at least back our younger ones who we know what we are going to get each game.

Part of the reason why we did well in JF this season was because we had quite a few who have a real go (& of course Chops who brought these guys together well). For all the talent we had, we did let in a few easy draws but overall, this squad we had were really goers.

Trying to find highlights for Dillon and others.

I wholeheartedly agree. Perry and Sykes. Cam Murray prototypes!

They both have that spirit about them which Gould speaks of as the number 1 attribute when recruiting.

Gee Wiz he is a giant for a under 18 player. Is this 100% locked in as we would not expect our club to announce this to fans.. Hope so

Looks good against boys half his size .. but you have to get in the picture with these young guys you never know what you might get.

I agree; always a challenge with young forwards is how much of their dominance is size/age-dependent. They are all monsters compared to their age group, but grown seasoned footballers are something altogether different.

When I was 15 the U16 team ahead of me at school had some really big kids and they were favourites to win the GF. One of the kids was Andrew Lomu who ended up playing about 90 matches for Roosters, Sharks and Raiders. He was already about adult size as a 16 year-old and was a schoolboy weapon because he was also fast.

However they came up against Marcellin Randwick in the Grand Final and Randwick had this kid who was an absolute axe. Apparently he was in the State Reps (Combined Catholic Schools), and I never did find out his name, but the kid was a weapon in defence. And we sent up our big boys and this kid from Randwick chopped them all in half repeatedly inside 15 minutes. I'll never forget it, I've never seen such a group of big strong boys dominated by one shoulder. Randwick ended up winning that GF.

Lomu ended up making it in firsts, also one kid Nelson Lomi played a few games for the Roosters, the rest of them did not make it to firsts. It was so illustrative of what can happen when a big kid who dominates his age group meets someone who is strong and can tackle.

"big kid who dominates his age group" then gets to NRL........
meet Luke Brooks cause he's gonna put yuh down [with a copybook legs tackle].

Brayden Guyan is a similar style as well.

Lol, just means Brooks is going nowhere

Speaking of hookers....what about the back-up from Newy: Chris Randall? Played as a lock sometimes and can certainly make his tackles. Off contract after next season. Got a bit of ball playing in him and can shore up the middle.

If Madden is rubbish over the next two games, do we look at bringing in Ash Taylor on a cheap 1 year deal?

I'd be doing it regardless.

I think we need to. With Adam out, we need depth in the halves. See if we can get Hoffman or Kei released from the roster as they are not in Madges plans.

Kimmorley was talking about Ash Taylor last night on SEN radio. Said he is disinterested in footy and doesn't put in at training. Can't see us making a play, especially with Kimmorley's involvement in our club

I think I'd rather Corey Norman for a year than Ash Taylor. At least Norman wants to play footy.

Rylie Jacks / Cooper John from Melbourne Storm lower grade halfs contracts not renewed at this stage. Similarly Corey Norman is off contract and could stand in well with a 2 year contract

Taylor is a million times the player Norman is imo

They were discussing Ash Taylor on NRL 360 the other night. Most agreed that as soon as he got his million dollar contract he thought that was all he had to do. After that never put in the hard yards, started gambing and rested on his laurel.
You never forget how to play footy you just loose the drive and desire.
