anyone watch trent robinsons post match conference? Dear lord he rinses Henry Perenara

Sure did. He didn’t miss did he. Robbo handles himself so well in press conferences. I can see why the players put it every week for him, he’s definitely got their backs.

54 - 12. Robbo is learning what it's like to coach a team under the salary cap. Loved his presser but his team got beat convincingly because they didn't have the number of superstars he is use to, and the other team did. Welcome to our world.

54-12 with a team still with the Australian captain Teddy. As well as the next million dollar player in Manu, and the next Queensland halfback in Walker.

They only score 12 to one of the worst defensive teams in the top 8. And have 54 put on them

We don't have these types of players. If we lose to by this score everyone on the forum and in the media think its the end of the world and call to sack the coach.

Roosters lose they say they don't have their stars.

Thanks for the perspective. I suppose the issue is Roosters do it once per season and we do it multiple times

Because the Roosters have not had a squad as weak as this current team for as long as anyone can remember, and Robinson with all his coaching cred is not going to make much difference when he comes up against better squads. The defensive structure... very WTs like.

To be fair, Robinson never blamed his squad but praised them for having a go.
It was the commentators going on about the missing stars (and there are plenty).
His rant was aimed at the refs and bunker … and well deserved.
Because Robinson knows that bagging the players to the media does more harm than good, instead he will give them a serving behind closed doors

Cleary seems to get the best out of the majority of his players, he has a calm and relaxed attitude and you rarely see him blowing up or criticising his players, Maguire has got very few players to perform their best or improve, imo, the Polynesian and indigenous players I believe don’t work well with the hard nosed in your face style that Madge brings. Players like Brooks that are quiet and can lack confidence have gone backwards, it’s also a worrying sign for the juniors stepping up if Maguire’s style can get the best out of them.

So it's not the coach but the quality of the players. I agree.

I suppose when Ivan was here it was the quality of the players that helped us beat Melbourne twice.

Ivan is an excellent coach, far better than Maguire.

This is his 15th season coaching FG and he has never won a comp.
that’s the worst record per capita in the NRL

I can’t believe some people believe think Madge is a better coach than Cleary. It isn’t even close.

Well even if that’s true Ivan dogged the club, the players and his good mate who got him a job when he didn’t have one. Ivan saw the writing on the wall and ran. At least Madge has the balls to take the challenge.

100%
Would love for anyone to show an example of a club with average players winning a premiership. It has NEVER happened. Regardless of who the coach is.
Quality of the playing roster is much more vital to success than a coach is. No doubt.

To be fair the Latrell incident was so bad nothing else really matters.

It’s worked ok for Stefano, LL Blore and Laurie. AD and Seyfarth off the top of my head too.

It’s true not all players like a hard nosed coach but the rest is a copout. I’m happy for Players that don’t want to work hard to go elsewhere. Bellamy seems to do ok with Islanders and indigenous players.

Same winning percentage, more premierships. I'm not saying he is better, but I suspect if they swapped clubs next year, the results would be quite similar to this year. And Madge has never dogged a club and left them in a shambles with poor purchases.

Fair enough. I don’t think it’s as clear cut as you say, it’s just that Ivan currently has a red hot team and Madge doesn’t. They both got their pros and cons.

Robinson and the Roosters have done an incredible job to be where they are with the injury toll this year.

There were also other factors at play in the game. The Roosters got it to 24-12 and had some momentum before Joey Manu was illegally taken out of the game. They also had Taukeiaho taken out of the game with an illegal play. That was on top of losing the rookie prop with an accidental head knock. They ended up with Tupouniau and Lam playing in the centres - neither of whom can defended at all in the centres - and a bunch of guys playing way more minutes than they were used to. Their bench was very green going into the game and they had to rely on it a lot. Souths got the benefit of their cheating given that Knight stayed on the field and Mitchell only got 10 in the bin while Manu was out for the match.

And as the team becomes more decimated they become less competitive against better squads and have 54 points put on them - just like the teams that are ranked in the bottom half of the comp without access to rep/quality players. In terms of coaching it becomes an equalizer.

They have been decimated the whole season and are (for now) still in the 4. The teams in the bottom half are still in the bottom half. Hardly an equalizer.

Yes for the one game. Roosters have done an incredible job this year.

anyone watch trent robinsons post match conference?

Roosters have been decimated by injuries this year and are still on the cusp of the top 4. That is all on Robinson.

And as the team becomes more decimated they become less competitive against better squads and have 54 points put on them - just like the teams that are ranked ***in the bottom half of the comp*** without access to rep/quality players. In terms of coaching it becomes an equalizer.

They have been decimated the whole season and are (for now) still in the 4. The teams in the bottom half are still in the bottom half. Hardly an equalizer.

Yes for the one game. Roosters have done an incredible job this year.

I can’t believe they’ve managed to stay in the top 4 after all the injuries. Been a hell of an effort.

MOst impressive performance of the season IMO.

But was still in demand from one of the frontrunning clubs. Hasn't their choice paid off. Watching the Panthers play their brand of football is a pleasure. Great talent, great development, great players and great coach. I wish we had the same.

Tell us again how the best half back in the world and the best coach in the world did when they were at the tigers. Cleary only got the job at the panthers so Nathan could re sign with them.

Still have Teddy, Tupenoa, Tupou, and Manu last night - 4 players who would make significant difference to any or all of the bottom sides and yet they still got smashed by a very strong South's line up.
Reinforces why we are where we are on the ladder when a team decimated like the Roosters - with still those quality players and Robinson as coach - get 54 points scored against them - puts a lot in perspective.
