September and not one player signed from one of the other 15 NRL clubs

Enough said ....we are doomed

that would say nobody wants to play under Maguire

That has been reported by multiple media agencies, not just Chammis who the Madge fans won't believe because he apparently has some agenda, facts speak louder than words in regards to our lack of signings

So Madge leaves and we still can't buy players .....which is what will happen ...the CLUB as an entirety is the problem

At least the new coach might get something out of the players we've got.

We need to get rid of 3/4 of the players we have ....

The roster isn't amazing but they are better than the performances show. Wouldn't take much to get them improving.

How many teams have you coached avo

So only people who have coached can give an opinion on a forum about coaching? Wouldn't be many people posting on here would there?

Only asked the question as you stated - Wouldn’t take much to get them improving
Wasn’t meant to be offensive

Sad day my number one target to partner Stef appears set to be locked up.. 😞

LEOTA LOCKED IN FOR PANTHERS

Penrith have moved to take another one of their stars off the open market, with Moses Leota expected to take up a contract extension.

The prop, 26, was able to field offers from rival clubs from November 1 but will instead recommit to the Panthers.

As revealed by The Australian’s Brent Read on Triple M the retention of Leota makes it harder for the Panthers to keep a hold of Viliame Kikau who has been linked with North Queensland and St George Illawarra.

“It looks like Moses Leota will sign an extension reasonably soon,” Read said.

“He’s obviously an outstanding front rower for them who went close to NSW selection last year.

“He’s one of those November 1 guys who can speak to rival clubs. I reckon Penrith are edging towards a deal for him.

“That’s good news for Panthers fans. We saw the comments today from Dave O’Neill about Viliame Kikau and admitting it would be hard to keep him.

See the problem.
We can't "buy" enough good players.

Why we will just beat Easts, Brisbane, get Souths Russell Crowe power to lure people maybe throw in Melbourne's red book.
We can't "buy" a good team. We never should.

We should grow our own, help players develop under us (Brooks should be a gun halfback, yet he has game problems. Nofo should be a gun winger, yet he sucks under the high ball, why?), develop a strong team.

Then if we have a gap, like Penrith buying Api Korosau, fill that gap with a brought player on the market. But were replacing a tire, not replacing the whole engineblock and transmission.

Ofcourse we will buy a few people and we need Lee H and Pascoe to work out the details so that the next SBW or whomever we target we can bring them in.

The problem is those 2 are more likely to sign the old SBW to a 4 year deal and tell is its a progressive move.Neither should have anything to do with the football side of operations

We will eventually sign quality players, when the COM becomes the COE, and when we can prove we’re moving forward in a way that enhances the reputation of everyone connected to the club.
Sacking a coach, a player or the tea lady is not going to turn our fortunes. Gosh, we’re already seen as the graveyard of players and coaches.
We’re also seen as the club where a player can get a regular first grade spot. We need to take full advantage of that and we have been, if you run through our recruiting history? Laurie, Utoikamanu, Doueihi etc. that’s our market while we’re getting our act together.

We had success in the past with signings like that.

Taupau x Austin x Naiqama

We need to keep making those unearthed signings.
Buying Blair, Anasta, Ballin types never worked out.

Play the smart game.

Agree Demps, we recognise our strengths and weaknesses and play to our strengths. The club is doing this. It’s the collective behaviour of everyone which will transform the club. Those who can’t make the behavioural modification will eventually move on. We’re moving in the right direction, so I will be terribly disappointed if the board use Maguire as a sacrificial lamb.

Don't have instagram..can you elaborate on this link..

Zac Lomax signed

I don't see anything in that link suggesting Lomax has signed anything or anywhere, he's not even mentioned in the last 12months worth of posts on that Insta feed.

The problem was that the only one of those 3 we kept was Ballin, and that was to get some more experience in our rehab department.

The biggest recruitment and retention failure we have had revolves around a lack of on field leadership.

We lost Benji Marshall, Chris Lawrence and Elijah Taylor in quick succession.

Other players we had looked at for leadership like Packer, Mautalino, Musgrave,McQueen, Thompson and a couple of others did not work out for one reason or another.

These players were never replaced. All we got was a washed up James Tahmou.

It has been an epic failure to understand what we had lost and do very little to replace it. Imo its the main reason we are where we are right now. A laughing stock!

Regardless of who coaches this mess not much will change without some on field leadership. For that reason we need at least 3 good quality on field leaders.More if we can release some contracted players who arent shaping up.

Hastings and Doueihi are what i would call on field leaders but we need to add to that.

Tariqu Sims is a must.

Luke Thompson and John Bateman would also help if we could fluke one of them.

The cupboard is pretty bare, we have left it too late to identify the problem.

Hopefully a couple more senior players are set to be shopped around, we sure as hell need them.

In hindsight Finucane would have been perfect however the 4yrs he wanted is way too many.

I would take his 4 years with heart and leadership against the 4 years of Noffa running sideways and looking at himself in the big screens

Look at Stefano being around finucane for a few weeks and how that developed his game. Finucane was a must for us. The exact leader from a winning culture we needed. I know we got burnt by tamou but you can’t compare the two players.

I don't buy that at all.

You reckon Stefano goes into Origin camp for a week, meets Dale Finucane and suddenly he comes out a better player? 9 months with the Tigers coach doesn't do it, a week with Dale Finucane gets the job done?

I'm not saying going into camp isn't valuable, of course it is, but to suggest a week in camp takes a player immediately to another level - I don't buy that one bit.

I obviously have no idea if it is so, but the way I envisaged it was that in Origin camp the younger players (like Stefano) see the older guys and see the extra things they do. And because they're all in camp together, all effectively living together, they see more of those little extra things done by the more experienced players.

But playing under covid, these players are all in camp together (as a club) more often, so hopefully they'd see someone in our club doing the little things and learn from there.

Anyway, the above is all conjecture.
