Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Dragon defense coach eh?
616 against....25+ per game...sounds about our type

Last year he was coach, dragons averaged 22.6, 8th best in the comp at a time when Mary was punted as well.

If Flanno can move us from 30pts to 22.6pts per game we actually could be on the edge of the top 8. I would take that positive shift right now if offered.

Apparently Gus has said Madge has been talking to him about trades. I hope it's not Brooks for Flanagan Jnr based on Flanagan Snr looking for an assistant role. I'd rather Brooks.

You’d probably be the only one.

Anyone but Brooks

Any news on who we're chasing now that our most recent shameful debacle is over?

Just read an article that Andrew Johns wants us to target Finucane. Or a 20 year old in the Finucane mould. Or Tariq Sims. I honestly couldn't understand it, but then again I just can't seem to stand his opinion 😂

Found Gus's article about us a good read up until a certain point - it was when he expressed that fast tracking our rebuild won't help us meanwhile he's doing this exact thing for the Dogs.
There also appears to be little knowledge (from a lot of pundits) about our junior pathways programs, as it's often mentioned of late and usually advised every time.

FLANNO IN TIGERS’ DEN?

Cronulla premiership-winning coach Shane Flanagan has emerged as a potential addition to Michael Maguire’s coaching staff at the Wests Tigers.

It is understood Flanagan is keen to return to the coaching ranks and will put up his hand to assist Maguire, who is on the lookout for a new member of his staff.

Flanagan has made no secret of his plans to step back into a full-time coaching role having spent this season in the commentary box with Fox League and 2GB.

The experienced mentor headlines a host of coaches already linked to the role, including Dean Pay, Brett White, David Furner and Shaun Wane.

Flanagan worked as an assistant last year at the Dragons in what was his first coaching position since leaving the Sharks at the end of 2018. He initially started as the attack coach but moved onto looking after the defensive side of the team.

The Tigers are on the lookout for a defensive specialist after Maguire’s assistant Wayne Collins was the big casualty of the Tigers’ highly publicised review.

Maguire will have a say into who he appoints but the decision will be left to the club’s football committee. Under the revised structure at the Tigers, Maguire has agreed to forego some of his autonomy in return for the club taking a more collaborative approach to their recruitment of his offsiders.

Sounds a lot like the orchestrated media agenda to get Flanno Madges job has changed focus.

Yeah pretty much. Trying a different angle now. I don’t want Flanagan anywhere near the club.

Given Gus opinion that you can't buy your way out of the bottom 8 and instead need to invest in your nursery, it raises 3 big questions:

- will gus be looking to offload some high $ signings to better balance their cap - like he did when first came to panthers with Jennings and Luke Lewis? - and if so who should WT try and take?

- where will bulldogs be looking to invest in juniors and will it encroach into Macarthur region? Or will WT be proactive in stopping them

- if we both end up in Liverpool will bulldogs look to do the early work to make liverpool a bulldogs home - or will WT get in front and make Liverpool our home?

“Smith hinted that he'd be unlikely to trade success for mediocrity when acknowledging the clubs he had been linked with, with the Storm just 80 minutes away from yet another grand final - a campaign Smith has had a major hand in.

“I’ve been linked with the Titans, the Tigers and the Bulldogs ... geez, they are all going great at the moment," Smith said.”

That answers that. What other options are there?

I think $1m a year would make him.reconsider.

If I was WT I'd being making him a priority and going all in - have no idea how the other clubs could compete for dollars with us given they all have marquee players

Id be paying him $700k for his playing ability and $300k for his 'will to win which this club desperately needs.

Make it $1m for 5 years.
