Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Quick check of the stats see that Liddle and Hodgson both had similar years in terms of output. Both played 20 games. More tries, tackles, runs / run meters and line breaks for Liddle in 10mins less game time. More assists, kicks, passes for Hodgson.

Says it all Hodgson is finished...
..or Liddle is a superstar in the making!
Um...

Can only think that Liddle has finally got the offer from the Dogs/eels that he always wanted!
Truth is,after considerable investment by WTs and even more patience, hes barely an NRL standard 9 as it is...and if so,for only 60 mins...and unfortunately Simpkin isnt there yet
Hogson was the one of the best 9s in the comp a year or two agobut ,isnt anything like the same player in 2021 and Ricky rightly started Starling most of the year
Not sure how much of his recent form is Ricky burnout vs body burnout
Who wld wanna be an NRL coach...!

What a ridiculous post. He’s been injured half the time he’s been here. And it’s been a lot longer than a year since Hodgson was one of the best 9’s in the comp. At 32, don’t expect him to recapture that form either.

Absolutely correct!!
Liddle is as brittle as a matchstick.Every time he gets folded you just hold yr breath that theres not yet another season ending injury..like the last time..and the time before that..and..
And when he actually does make it onto the field..and actually stay there, like he has for most of 2021,he looks pretty average tbh...nothing special... before burning out after 60 mins and needing a replacement .Not sure I want a 9 on the bench.
And btw,Im no fan of a 32 yo hooker who hasnt shown form for some while..regardless of his "leadership skills",Hodgson is the same as a Tamou or any other ...past their best-by date..and by some margin.
We need to persevere with Liddle and Simpkin for another season and see exactly what weve got,and then make an informed decision..which is unusual on this forum!

So the answer to a player whose as brittle as a matchstick is replace him with a 32 year who has had 2 knee recos in the 3 years. Very Wests Tigers. Matt Ballin 2.0

Yet agian you seem incapable of actually ..um ..reading!!It aint that hard
Think I clearly stated what I wld propose re retaining both Liddle and Simpkin for another year, with Hogson having no attraction...
Is there any other way I cld state this more clearly?

Yet again? Be nice mate.

Didn't you say Liddle on the way out was a rubbish rumour or suggestion?

I think Liddle's worst attribute is his service from dummy half, which obviously isn't shown in the stats.

It’s no surprise all the usual culprits are bagging the Hodgson signing. We have no leaders, simple as that. Liddle is bog average and has clearly been told he’s not apart of this clubs long term ambitions, further emphasised by Simpkins long term contract. Hodgson for 2 years is the ideal mentor for Simpkin and at no real damage to the salary cap.

Matt Ballin MK2

Did we have a young hooker to be mentored at that time ?

The only thing Ballin could of taught anyone was how to select a quality pair of crutches!

Pretty sure before Ballin came to us he had the manly record for most games played in a row

some vigorous discussion on here today.

pretty good natured though I'd say. Healthy difference of opinion without personal insults mostly. Rare lately

For once it would be great if the club was talking to a player in his early to mid twenties who is quality, who has zero injury concerns and who has not been sacked by his previous club for off field issues.

Dream on it’s the Weststigers we are talking about, always trying for a miracle signing.

I know we all wish we were getting Harry Grant....

I'm trying to look at the positive side of Josh Hodgson.
I feel like there is a lot.

Obvs the negatives exist that you've pointed out but hoping it creates some waves in the market and we come out with good results. As well as on the field.

Um...

Given that both were coming off injuries. Ones 25 the other is 30 I’d say there is more upside in keeping Liddle on an individual output basis.

What these stats don’t tell you though is how well the team benefited from either in their respective positions.

In terms of Kicks and Passes.
Tigers were dead last for kicks / kick meters in the comp so Hodgson’s kicking game of would be valuable for us as Liddle kicked twice all year.

Hard to gage service benefits but maybe it could be determined in terms of run meters gained by the forward pack.
Tigers; 15301 off 993 hit ups.
Raiders; 15101 off 1076 hit ups.

Not sure that helps.
Other than that Hodgson was more involved in play with 101 line engagements and 210 pass involvements including 25 dummy half runs.
Liddle comparatively had the run first mentality with 26 line engagements with 131 pass involvements and 70 dummy half runs.

Agree though on the contrary;

Can you understand the reasons that it's not the case though? I'm sure that's what we all want but in reality we aren't a desirable club. We need to give prime players a reason to come here. They want to win. We have to create success by doing what we are doing already. Nab the best juniors, develop and retain through pathways and recruiting players looking for opportunity.

Hodgson could very well just come here and plod hard like Tamou and bring further shame on our houses. But we also can't jag anyone, need experience to mentor our youth and at his best he'd be our best player so I can't complain. The risk/reward on this signing is probably lined up correctly.

Paul Kent when this signing is made.

"Great signing for the Tigers, they need the leadership badly."

Paul Kent halfway through next year when we're coming last and Hodgson has been playing bad.

"It's just another bad decision by the Tigers. They have great young talent in Simpkin and Liddle and bring in an over the hill Josh Hodgson to block their pathways."

Actually to be honest that's probably everyone saying good things about the signing right now.
