I doubt that Brooks goes anywhere.

Today's wording sounds like he's manager all in on him leaving.

Think club needs to finally show some backbone here.

Ow Brooks you don't like being coached by madge ay well too bad you're contracted unless we get top tier replacement

I view it more as an opportunity to get rid of a bad contract. If he’s agitating for a release, let him go. Best for all parties.

It is if there’s someone better to replace him now. Because he’s a bit of an unknown at nrl level again, I would prefer Hastings turn up and earn his spot first (even if it means out training him in preseason). I would wait as long as possible into preseason to release him if we still have a couple of roster spots available. Releasing him now only benefits his new team. I would think tigers hold the cards if brooks wants out (if it’s true).

Let’s face it, 2022 is going to be a bad year. If we have the opportunity to get rid of Brooks contract and recruit a good halfback for 2023, we should take it. It’s good business to get rid of him now when there is some interest.

He’s a bog average halfback on very good money. We should be jumping at the chance to get rid of him.

I’m not in the Brooks fan club, but who is the “good halfback” we sign in 2023?
Or do we just go out the back and shake the Halfback tree and see who falls off.

Fair call regarding the opportunity and the interest.
If douehi wasn’t injured id probably agree straight up. . Im hesitant to release him without a proven first grade (albeit average) half at all. All our cards are on Hastings then.

Yeah there just isn't enough depth in the halves to do it, I also have a suspicion that madge doesn't see AD as a 6.

Going into the season with a halves combo of Hastings/ Brooks would be stupid.

Please elaborate. As someone with poor technical/coaching knowledge I’m genuinely interested in the perspective.

I admit I have no real idea about why Hastings was signed because it’s all been speculation on here. Do you have any idea what the tigers are thinking for @ 6 with douehi out?

It has to be Brooks/Hastings with Doueihi out. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best available combination. As to who actually plays 6 and 7, it really doesn’t matter. Both positions are just numbers these days.

This was my initial thought. If they are similar players just play them in their preferred side of the field (not sure if that is an outdated theory).

Thats true but you still need either your 6 or 7 to take control. Brooks has shown he can't do it so hopefully Hastings can step up. You look at Penrith. They have the perfect halves pairing, Cleary controls play around the ruck and has an A class kicking game and Luai is the flashy runner with a bit of flair. We could only dream of Hastings/Brooks being that good.

If brooks goes are we going to be happy with madden as back up half.

He wouldn't be the back up, he would be starting in the halves.

Hahaha i like that shake the halfback tree , we would end up with lachlan lewis 😂

Close to the worst NRL footballer I have ever seen. Even when everyone was raving about him I just didn't get it. It looked like someone hit the slo mo button everytime he got the ball.

The solution is obvious. Benji comes home for 1 last year to play 6 for as long as he keeps Douhie out of the position. Hastings plays the whole year at 7, Laurie at 1, peachey at 13. We swap Hodgson for Liddle and pick up Luke Thompson and Curtis Scott.

1. Laurie
2. Noffa
3. Kepao/Gildart/douhie/Scott
4. Kepao/Gildart/douhie/Scott
5. Ken
6. Benji
7. Hastings
8. Stephano
9. Hodgson
10. Thompson
11. Blore
12. Tuilagi
13. peachey
14. Musgrove
15. LL
16.Twal
17. Joffa
18. Simpkin
19. Mikaele

Peachy could easily play six, has a far better kicking game than Brooks, but hey who doesn't in the NRL. Or another option could be to put Laurie there temporarily. As long as the worst halfback since Brian Smith in Tigers colors goes who cares.

Releasing Brooks with our roster would be extremely poor roster management

Why?
It’s our roster that’s been holding him back according to his fan club.

I am no way a Brooks defender, I speaking squarely about the balance of the squad, after releasing Mbye there just isn't enough depth in the halves to release Brooks.

If Hastings takes off as expected you would think both he and Doueihi will end up as our halves pairing.... especially if, as reported, Brooks is off Maguire.
Another $800,000 halfback in reserve grade doesn't help the roster either.
Surely we could spend that money better elsewhere.

If we release Brooks we falling further in depth. Who knows, the combination with Hastings could well spark Brooks out of the doldrums. I strongly think it will.

Daine Laurie can also play in the halves, that's where Phil Gould reckons he'd be at his best.

Trouble with that idea is we have no fullback depth so it fixes one problem but creates another.
