Hastings 7 madden 6 if brooks goes

That would be the worst halves pairing in the comp by the length of Flemington straight.

I doubt that Brooks goes anywhere.

Today's wording sounds like he's manager all in on him leaving.

Think club needs to finally show some backbone here.

Ow Brooks you don't like being coached by madge ay well too bad you're contracted unless we get top tier replacement

I view it more as an opportunity to get rid of a bad contract. If he’s agitating for a release, let him go. Best for all parties.

**A tale of two Lukes – Brooks and Thompson – has the potential to impact several NRL clubs, and shake up the game, this week.**

Luke Brooks is being positioned to leave Wests Tigers, with his management saying he would prefer not to be coached by Michael Maguire. He has been linked with the Bulldogs and the Knights.

Luke Thompson’s situation is potentially more explosive. He has been butting heads with Bulldogs management about COVID vaccination. He has told them a number of times that he does not want to be vaccinated. He didn’t even want to wear a mask in Brisbane when players were required to do so after the competition was relocated to Queensland.

I revealed a few weeks ago on Channel Nine news that Bulldogs players were told they had to be double vaccinated by the start of pre-season training on November 1.

I sent Thompson questions about his opposition to vaccinations, but received no reply. Bulldogs chief executive Aaron Warburton also declined to comment.

Canterbury would be happy if Thompson took his attitude towards COVID elsewhere. One of Thompson’s best mates is Wests Tigers UK recruit Oliver Gildart. I’ve been told Gildart has been trying to recruit Thompson to the Tigers, without much luck.

And this is where the two Lukes are linked. If Thompson moved on, there would be money for Brooks at Belmore. It is my understanding that Brooks would be happy to be coached by Trent Barrett. The Tigers have specialist halfback Jackson Hastings counting down the minutes in quarantine after his return from the UK Super League.

The other issue for the Bulldogs is they already have a No.7, Kyle Flanagan. Even if they wanted Brooks – and got him at a discounted rate – the Bulldogs would still have more than $1.3million tied up in the two halfbacks. That’s a big drain on their salary cap.

I believe he has some family members that would like him to leave but Brooks himself is hesitant to leave.

It is if there’s someone better to replace him now. Because he’s a bit of an unknown at nrl level again, I would prefer Hastings turn up and earn his spot first (even if it means out training him in preseason). I would wait as long as possible into preseason to release him if we still have a couple of roster spots available. Releasing him now only benefits his new team. I would think tigers hold the cards if brooks wants out (if it’s true).

That doesn’t surprise me with his personality. He’s in his comfort zone at the tigers.

Going into the season with a halves combo of Hastings/ Brooks would be stupid.

Peachy could easily play six, has a far better kicking game than Brooks, but hey who doesn't in the NRL. Or another option could be to put Laurie there temporarily. As long as the worst halfback since Brian Smith in Tigers colors goes who cares.

Releasing Brooks with our roster would be extremely poor roster management

Please elaborate. As someone with poor technical/coaching knowledge I’m genuinely interested in the perspective.

I admit I have no real idea about why Hastings was signed because it’s all been speculation on here. Do you have any idea what the tigers are thinking for @ 6 with douehi out?

Why?
It’s our roster that’s been holding him back according to his fan club.

Let’s face it, 2022 is going to be a bad year. If we have the opportunity to get rid of Brooks contract and recruit a good halfback for 2023, we should take it. It’s good business to get rid of him now when there is some interest.

He’s a bog average halfback on very good money. We should be jumping at the chance to get rid of him.

It has to be Brooks/Hastings with Doueihi out. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best available combination. As to who actually plays 6 and 7, it really doesn’t matter. Both positions are just numbers these days.

Yeah that's an option if someone wants 100 percent of his contract

For starters they are both unproven at NRL level, if either fail there is literally no fall back option, if either get injured there is no backup option. It would be really poor roster management.

I am no way a Brooks defender, I speaking squarely about the balance of the squad, after releasing Mbye there just isn't enough depth in the halves to release Brooks.

Fair call regarding the opportunity and the interest.
If douehi wasn’t injured id probably agree straight up. . Im hesitant to release him without a proven first grade (albeit average) half at all. All our cards are on Hastings then.
