Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

When you have Nofoaluma, MWZ, Thompson, Naiqama and Fonua as wing options

and only

Lolohea and Thompson as fullback options.

You dont spend 400k on a winger!

We would have to re-sign Naiqama and Watene-Zelezniak…the moneyball approach say you do probably for the same cost roughly as Mansour..

Mansour will be at the Rorters anyway..

I dont know why we are writing our current players off, Watene - Zelezniak has put in the effort wants to be part of our culture and we need to let him develop.

What's with this, 'we gotta sign XYZ' mentality? The current Wests Tigers squad has just demonstrated that they can compete with any side in the NRL comp. Maybe we should buy back Moses, Tedesco and Woods. They all want to be in a competitive side.

You are a stirer lol.

My personal opinion is Naiqama should be introduced to Brett Hodgson and put at fullback. If he cant offer us anything at fullback then he should go bye bye.

You spend 400k on a Winger if they are good enough to often be over the line.
Hasler foolishly spent 600k on Brett Morris when he was really not as good as his past self in getting over the line.

With the wing depth we have here, I can't justify 400k+ for Mansour. Yet I think if we recruit more people we should be aiming for top shelf not more depth or Value for money.

Especially seeing we're already paying Nof more than 400k. We can't waste more money on a similar winger unless we offload Nof.

Is that fact that Noffa is on more than $400k or just a guess?

Was reported at the time that he signed for roughly 450k i think.

Overs in my opinion. But we lost our big players and he was a local boy looking to stay, while Parra were supposedly lurking. I have my doubts about that, think it's just agent talk.

The salary cap for 2018 is $9.4m, which means the average for a top 25 player is $376,000\. I think you have to look at what constitutes "overs" in that context - same as Brooks being on $500,000\. That's close to rock bottom for any player who isn't on their rookie deal, let alone a half.

So holistically, the average salary of a squad using 100% of the cap is 313 333, with us having about 1 million left in the cap and only 28 players contracted we're at 300k overall.

Of course an 'average' player only earns 100-150k. Most of our backline would be on that currently. MWZ, Kev, Marsters, Fonua, Thompson etc would all be in this bracket. Milne, Benji too. Tui on about 400 and Nof on 450 would be the exceptions

Agreed plus he's on minimum wage. Mansour wants above 450K according to Gus.

Lots of talk about this player and that.

Imo all we need is an origin class Fullback, left centre and hooker.

Guys like Mansour are none of these things.

Let me think for a minute
Mansour for $400000
Or
Moses suli for $430000
Ah that's a hard one
Why wouldn't you want Mansour
Thompson at fullback has outplayed both Slater and Tedesco in the games he has played so I would be happy to leave him there for now

Having Mansour on the left wing would be an upgrade on MWZ
who is off contract at the end of this year
Although I would still keep MWZ as back up
We would still have plenty $ for a couple more decent players
Especially if we don't re sign Grant Felise and Sue
I am very confident in our forwards
They have already shown what they are capable of and will only get better
If Liddle performs we are set
I would then put the money we have left into another centre
Let's say Ross
And a decent utility player ???
There would still be enough money for a good second rower
Maybe someone like Corey Oats
I think he would be a real asset to our team

I will ask this question of you all
Would Masour and Oats make our team stronger

Ross swap for Grant maybe. Ross looking for an upgrade on his 150K. Only problem with this is Ross came out in the media, only months after upgrading for a further 2 seasons (2019-20) and declared he was worth more money and wanted an upgrade.

No way Kev or Marsters on such little money last time Marsters off contract 6 clubs went after him and Cronulla went hard and when Masters did resign he said he owed it to the club because they gave him a chance Kev on at least 250K he's a solid player who's played over 50 NRL games

Why do you think an average player would earn less than half the average salary?

Guesswork on my part, but I imagine most NRL squads comprise a handful of 'star' players on contracts of two or three times the average salary, a few rookies on minimum (which is just less than $100k I believe), a few retreads and reclamation projects on not much more (this is your Robbie Rochows and Matt McIlwricks - experienced players but ones not exactly in high demand), and half or more of the squad on somewhere around the 'average' salary.

What I'm getting at is that with the new, higher cap you have to recalibrate your expectations. $400-450k is not a star player wage anymore, it is - or will be - pretty much standard for a good first grade player in his prime that most clubs could use.

For those saying you wouldn’t pay 400k for Mansour you’re kidding yourselves.

Mansour is a NSW winger who is key to penriths attack and he can defend too, he kickstarts plays so well and takes the big runs no one wants too take, he can finish as well.

MWZ yeah he’s improving but Mansour is better and if MWZ is making such a strong case the bloke is a centre too.

Mansour and Nofa would kickstart our attack so dynamically, and he’d help our chances in bringing Nathan Cleary to the club too…..

Kevy and MWZ on $450k or a NSW representative in Mansour, I know what I’d take for the same price

By average I mean not so talented. We would have Godinet, McIlwrick (maybe got a slight bump when re-signing),and the other players mentioned.

I think the Roosters have 12 of their 29 players on under 150k. We wouldn't have that many but would have a fair few. Marsters may be on a bit more than 150 but he was basically an NYC player with promise a few years ago. Now we'd be looking at re-signing him for 450k.

Kev wasn't originally re-signed. He was one of the last players to do so and was viewed largely as a nsw cup player to provide us with depth for first grade. He may have gone hard in preseason and earned a spot but you don't sign backup players for nsw cup on 250-300k….

Mansour would be looking for 500-600k most likely. He's better than what we have, but we can balance our books better by having our cheaper guys and buying some top quality stars, who we may have to pay overs for due to our limited success

N Cleary in
N Ross In

Grant out
Sue. Out

Rest of the team to Will become one Powerful unit over the season

Ross is 30 and looking for a retirement package. Meaney would be the player to target from the Knights.

It is pretty disappointing that we don't have a genuine speedster such as Korobeite or JAC in our lower grades. We need speed in hurry.

Apparently Gould has said in the last week Mansour wants $600K to stay and Gould said he does not have the cash to pay that for him so looks like Mansour could end up in Bondi for one of those $150K contracts they are famously known for
