Hooker is so much more than their stats. The reasons many teams can send their wingers in un touched is because of good dummy half play. We don't do that. Our attack is slow, clunky and often goes to the right over and over again. This is because Liddle is simply not good. His service is so slow and he isn't good at engaging the markers and giving our forwards more room for hit ups like Farah could. He also gets gassed early in the game and regularly misses over 5 tackles. He's a bottom 3 starting hooker. We need higher standards.

Personally I like him but we don't have to agree. Doesn't quite have the attacking skills but a good defender and provides good service, good reliable dummy half. Agree to disagree on it ??

Everyone has just come to the conclusion that Simpkin is going to be a star, without having really stood out in the few games he’s played. I honestly can’t work out if the hate for Liddle is cos everyone loves Simpkin, or the love for Simpkin is cos they hate Liddle.

Why all this Liddle Simpkin crap ,can we not go into next season with Jacob starting and Jake coming of the bench , why play them against one another all the time

Sorry mate, don't have an update but I'd say our chances are improving after LL signing. I don't think we'll know anything until the borders open. I heard the Cowboys are shopping Jordan McLean around. If they can't offload him they won't be able to offer Luki or Nanai anything decent. I'd double down and go for the both of them.

A good judge told me the other day Christian Ma’anaima might be one of our best signings. We won't be chasing front rowers with Stef, Twal, Musgrove, Seyfarth and Ma'anaima Joffa and Tuki. Reckons Ma'anaima is as good as Stef!

Back on the Twal debate a few pages earlier, I fully agree that he is not a lock.

I would like to see Peachey at 13 and Seyfarth as the bench lock that can shift to prop when required. I think both have better ball playing than Twal and would make for a better all round rotation in my opinion.

Long term (maybe when Peachey deal is done?) I would be interested to see if Rua Ngatikaura could play at lock while sharing the 9 with Simpkin. Word on the street is Rua is chunky and BSmith-like so could work, albeit I’ve never seen him play.

Just spitballing, but would prefer work something out internally than help doggies by subsidising Thompson

I’d swap them. Seyfarth starting with Peach coming on after 15-20 and Seyfarth moving to prop. He can play decent minutes with quality so will help the rotation. A fresh Peach in the middle of the half could be dangerous

Liddle has shown he can’t pass, poor defender and can’t play 80. Simpkin dominated junior grades and is 20. There is a reason the club is looking at moving Liddle. He’s not getting much better and his level is not of a first grade hooker.

Simpkin who is not NRL ready projects to be a much better player. He looks a season away to me but it may be sooner.

Seyfarth isn’t a lock his lateral defense was ordinary to say the least. He is a direct hitter and runner and should be in the middle. Locks should be 65-80min players. Seyfarth isn’t close to that. I think he can add value but we need to stop putting players in roles just because.

Blore would add more value as a lock than Seyfarth, he can hit side on, has good lateral movement and can 2nd phase play - also faster.

Blore has been the forgotten key player in our rotation with the Paps & Lucy talk. I think be is going to hit another level next year if he can have an injury free pre season with Laurie / Brooks running off him.

Getting a bit sick of this hate on liddle, I admit he was poor last year in passing, I have watched him since he started playing with us, and his passing has been sharp and of quality throughout his playing career, until this last season. Why the change?? Well have a look at physical changes in the last 12-18 months to particularly his arm muscle density. His arms are huge, I don’t know if u guys realise that with that amount of growth in a relatively short time would make your arms although stronger, u would lose flexibility and a bit of finesse. Give him a bit of time to adjust to his new guns and I believe u will see him get much better this season!
On his defence, as previously stated by other forum members, most of the time in the middle he is alone tackling a massive unit, where are the rest of his middles helping??? Again just a poor defensive team that liddle cops the bad raps for!!
On him being gassed, this is due to the great Madge bench rotation, or lack of it. He’s a massive impact player like cook. Cook took years till he played 80 minutes. Give him time after several years of injuries to adjust to the game,
On Simpkin, last season he was scoring heaps of try’s in reserves, mostly from dummy half crash overs and every one though he was the second coming! Then liddle was dropped to reserve grade and absolutely killer it. Scoring several try’s and setting up heaps(not just from crash overs.
Moral of the story is, don’t get caught up in the hype of Simpkin he may come good in time, but weigh to small and inexperienced for first grade yet. I’d be going with liddle and Peachey coming of the bench to give him a break for the first half of the year. Then maybe introduce Simpkin. But remember bringing liddle on early in his career made him get two shoulder reconstructions. Don’t push small built hookers in to early.

On Simpkin, last season he was scoring heaps of try’s in reserves, mostly from dummy half crash overs and every one though he was the second coming! Then liddle was dropped to reserve grade and absolutely killer it. Scoring several try’s and setting up heaps(not just from crash overs.
Moral of the story is, don’t get caught up in the hype of Simpkin he may come good in time, but weigh to small and inexperienced for first grade yet. I’d be going with liddle and Peachey coming of the bench to give him a break for the first half of the year. Then maybe introduce Simpkin. But remember bringing liddle on early in his career made him get two shoulder reconstructions. Don’t push small built hookers in to early.

I’ve seen some reasonable local players hit the gym and bulk up and I noticed initially that they all seem to lose stamina and seem off the pace. Could be just their mindset maybe
