Sensational. Hope they can land both.

If we want to land both and the kid from the cows we’ll definitely have to release leilua I’m assuming, or we’ll be at 31 players

I'm OK with this.

From Bulldogs forum, Cotric apparently hasn't shown for training today.

given Lumelume has left the Storm, I feel like this might move quickly. if we can offer more money than Canberra then it effectively delivers Cotric to us.

Tamou is probably he most ineffective NRL Captains I have ever seen. On top of that he averages just a small amount of time on the field. Time for a new Captain?

if AD wasn't out for half the season I'd be throwing him the armband this instant. I'm not sure if there's an ideal candidate besides him.

Hastings maybe? He is super vocal, but yea bit of learning probably needed for nrl again

Make him earn it!

I like the idea of players taking a leading role in areas. Tamou needs to lead the forward pack.

Hopefully Cayless can get the fire back in Tamou
He can clearly play and perform.

Parra could use him with everyone leaving. Swap him for Papali’i

The Wests Tigers have made an audacious play designed to hit back at North Queensland’s poaching of Luciano Leilua by offering young gun teenager Jeremiah Nanai a $600,000 two-year deal for 2023 and 2024.

Nanai, 18, is regarded by good judges as one of the best emerging backrowers in the NRL and made his debut last season playing four games for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys are continuing to monitor the Leilua situation at Wests Tigers with early reports suggesting the backrower may request an immediate release.

Wests Tigers have so far refused this request but if coach Michael Maguire and director of football Tim Sheens were to land the signature of Nanai then the clubs would look to open negotiations about an immediate swap.

Tigers’ director of football Sheens confirmed to Fox Sports the club had made an offer for Nanai to move to the Concord-based club in 2023 and 2024.

Since the arrival of Sheens the Tigers have landed the signature of Dally M back-rower of the year Isaiah Papali’i for 2023 and are currently in a race with the Canberra Raiders to sign Canterbury-Bankstown outside back Nick Cotric.

The Tigers are also deep in negotiations to try and extend the contract of rising front-rower Stefano Utoikamanu as the club sets about overhauling its roster.

Sheens has gone to great lengths to point out coach Maguire is still the figurehead of the club while the newly-arrived director of football is simply assisting Wests Tigers in solving the stigma of being a club players try to avoid joining.

Whereas Canterbury-Bankstown general manager of football Phil Gould has immediately made some major plays in the NRL’s open market the Tigers are aiming for a more measured rebuild.

Premiers Penrith are a recent example of a club who were widely regarded as being no threat to the competition before emerging as one of the Sydney power clubs in the last two seasons.

If anyone knows about rebuilding clubs and overhauling rosters it is four-time premiership-winner Sheens.

If there’s an area the Tigers were in need of a major overhaul it was the club’s recruitment and retention with the experienced Warren McDonnell also returning to Concord to help fix the mess.

Sheens and McDonnell were part of the Wests Tigers’ one and only premiership in 2005 when the pair utilised an outstanding crop of local juniors headed by Robbie Farah, Brett Hodgson, Dene Halatau, Bryce Gibbs and Liam Fulton.

Wests Tigers’ favourite son Benji Marshall was also integral and has since returned to Concord this year after a bitter fallout saw him play a farewell season with South Sydney in 2021.

Farah and fellow 2005 grand final hero Pat Richards are now working with the Tigers NRL side while Marshall is working in pathways and as a Wests Tigers ambassador.

The article was informative but I wonder if the use of the word "figurehead" is a mistake or deliberate?

Figurehead definition, a person who is head of a group, company, etc., in title but actually has no real authority or responsibility: Most modern kings and queens are figureheads.

I got Seyfarth at lock, really think this is best position, very mobile, big unit, rip and tear!
I got peachy at 14 all year, coming on at 25-30 minutes to give liddle a break, then at liddle on at 50-60 minutes. Peachy them to lock, Seyfarth off!
That’s a winning combo! Mark my words

I must admit i really enjoyed Seyfarth's attitude and performance during the games this year.If he can keep that up next year he should be in the 17 each week

NRL trade system not ideal: Titans CEO
Ed Jackson 2 hrs ago
Comments

Having witnessed his NRL club get dragged into Brandon Smith's contract situation, Gold Coast chief executive Steve Mitchell admits it is time the game's transfer system is reviewed. The Titans were one of several clubs to court Smith despite the Melbourne star being under contract with the Storm for next year.

Under NRL rules, players can speak to rival clubs when they have 12 months left to run on their existing contract from November 1.

Smith's situation turned particularly ugly after commenting on a podcast revealing his desire to play for the Sydney Roosters.

In response the Storm issued a statement on Tuesday confirming the Kiwi international would be leaving the club after the 2022 season and they were "deeply offended" by the comments.

That situation comes after a photo of Penrith's Viliame Kikau wearing a Canterbury polo shirt was circulated on social media, before the backrower's future move to the Bulldogs was confirmed.
It probably needs some improving. We're trying to get it to the point where, like anything in a process, if it's becoming problematic - and it's obviously not ideal currently - so there's probably room to massage it somewhat," he said.

"There'll be more of an approach collectively in regard to the reformation and what it's going to look like going forward.

"I'd be up for change. I think our club would be too, but we'll take that discussion up with the rest of the clubs."

Having seemingly missed out on Smith, who is expected to join the Roosters, Mitchell backed the club's current hooking options to get the job done in 2022.

Ex-Warrior Erin Clark, local product Tanah Boyd and former Penrith and Parramatta utility Will Smith are the players vying for the No.9 jersey and Mitchell said the failure to land Smith wouldn't mean they would simply look elsewhere.

"We're always looking in key roles, particularly specialist roles, in regard to what our depth looks there," he said.

"We're well served in the nine position. There's a real opportunity there for someone who wants to make it their own."
