Thompson linked to storm

Thompson is actually the one we need moving forward, Different game and body shape to Stef...
Would be a great combination moving forward.

Canterbury forward Luke Thompson has been shopped to Melbourne Storm.

While desperately hoping prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona will agree to be vaccinationed, club officials considered an approach from a third party representing Thompson.

After consideration, Melbourne felt the money being asked for Thompson was excessive and rejected the offer.

It showed that Melbourne may be forced to start searching for a replacement should Asofa-Solomona continue his anti-vaccination stance.

The proposition was made in mid-November and was for a two-year deal.

Privately, Melbourne hope the giant forward may have at least one jab before Christmas, meaning he could return late to pre-season training.

Being unvaccinated in Victoria means Asofa-Solomona cannot even train with the team. He was due back to training last Tuesday.

Asofa-Solomona has told Melbourne officials he does not want to leave the club but also knows he cannot stay by refusing a Covid jab.

The Bulldogs want to retain Thompson but are aware his departure — despite having another two years to run on his current contract — would free up considerable space in the club’s tight salary cap.

Thompson was shopped to Wests Tigers earlier this year.

There has been speculation that Thompson and Bulldogs teammate Nick Cotric could sign with Wests Tigers — allowing Canterbury to have a crack at Parramatta and NSW prop Junior Paulo.

Canterbury would be required to tip in a considerable amount for Thompson to be signed by a rival club.

Melbourne had an interest in Thompson but the transfer finances didn’t stack up. There doesn’t appear to be any chance of talks between both parties reigniting.

The Storm, worried about losing their biggest forward, continue to discuss how to deal with Asofa-Solomona’s anti-vax stance.

The club is becoming increasingly concerned over Asofa-Solomona’s future as each week of the off-season passes.

Melbourne is aware the situation must come to a head over the next month. Asofa-Solomona has been told of the consequences of refusing to be vaccinated.

Even if Melbourne is forced to offload Asofa-Solomona, it remains unclear exactly which club would want to sign an unvaccinated player.

Canterbury continues to move around its salary cap as the club undertakes one of the biggest recruitment drives in its history.

Instead of doing the Dogs a favour by taking players off them so they can create cap space to go after Paulo, how about we go after Paulo ourselves?

Old news its sounds like.
Storm won't have the funds to match an offer like ours I would think considering they have top 5 on decent money already.

If we are keen on Thompson we need to just get it done so gives up more time to train together.

Going after Paulo does is two prone. We’re leaving the Dogs in the cap squeeze they are clearly looking at, and it weakens Parra even further.

Paulo is looking at getting paid significant overs on his next contract. Maybe more expensive than Thompson considering the Dolphins lacklustre recruiting so far. Given a choice between Thompson with the Dogs chipping in or 800-850k for Paulo I'd go with the former.

Melbourne are astute.

We should be learning firm these more settled and successful clubs.

Well 2023 is starting to look better, but dare I ask what about next season?
Not looking good at all

More movement at the station coming in the next week or two.

Give us a clue Master ??????

Nothing new Cotric should get done next week along with Stefano being extended. Also a big hope of Nanai getting signed for 2023 and being swapped with Luciano. Both are managed by Sam Ayoub whose close with Madge, Sheens and Robbie.

Ray Stone is in the outer at the Eels wouldn’t surprise me if we brought him back as Liddle will seek a release given Api signed. Liddle may end up at the Eels.

How about Thompson?

No was offered Sheens set a price and Dogs want more. Never say never but unlikely this regime budges.

Hasn’t the Storm be caught cheating the salary cap a few times? It’s fine for them to be grandiose now after all the success they have had.

We want success too and if we achieve many years of it, maybe we can posture around and say stuff like”his price is excessive”, but we have been in the wilderness for over 10 years, if he is a good fit for us, and we have the cash, we should go all in, to get our share of success.

In short, I wouldn’t trust any other footy team giving us advice of who we should or should not take on board.

I watch the Aaron Woods podcast on bloke in a bar.

So his not managed by Isaac anymore?

Madge must still have some clout as Woods said he tried to come back here but madge didn't want him.

Good call?

Would of thought sheens would like him back.

Was an interesting pod
