**The Bulldogs have signed Nick Meaney for the 2019 NRL season.**
Canterbury has begun to fill the void left by Moses Mbye, signing Newcastle Knights fullback Nick Meaney for the 2019 NRL season.
Meaney comes over on a lucrative three-year deal after informing Knights officials of his desire to leave the club during the week, who had four clubs chasing his services.
Following Mbye’s defection to the Wests Tigers on a four-year deal, Meaney will jump into the No.1 jersey at the Bulldogs next season.
Meaney has had an indifferent start to 2018 after injuring his ankle during round one. But having played NSW Under 20s Origin last season and being named the player of the year in the NYC and NSW Cup over the last two seasons, the 20-year old brings a ton of talent to Canterbury.
Knights coach Nathan Brown said Meaney is a good chance to make his NRL debut at Newcastle before he departs and understands the youngster’s reasons for leaving.
“He is a great young kid Nick and a very good player but he wants to play fullback and we have a pretty good one here at the club right now,” Brown told The Herald.
“I can understand why he has made the decision and it is pretty much the same reason why Jack [Cogger] is going as well.
“They want the opportunity to play first grade in their rightful positions which is hard for them here when Mitch [Pearce] and Kalyn are blocking their way.”
