Its interesting to look at Parra's response to their "failure". ***Apparently the high powered lobby mob who put the last board out has now put the current board and hierarchy on notice*** that if they don't improve next year they can start looking elsewhere as well. They have told the board they want a complete reshuffle of the coaching staff bringing in Paul Green and Shane Flanagan as assistants and appointing Tim Sheens as coaching director. They are moving on 11 players. And they finished in the top 4. Admittedly this was in the DT so may be a load of rubbish. However it does point out one of our problems as Snake keeps pointing out. We as members have no power to put pressure on the board. They really answer to no one. All we can do is wring our hands and complain on here. I suppose pulling the plug on memberships would be way of showing our discontent but i wouldn't see many doing that.

I would not be using the Parra board structure as a benchmark. They have had a more disfunctional board than the Tigers for a long time including getting board members banned by the NRL Their board is a cluster and has been overseeing MANY wooden spoons and zero premierships in 35years. Their board is effectively the Leagues Club board which is not that far different to our structure. At the end of the day Ashfield and Brydens are paying the bills. Good set up to have the boss of the key sponsor as the chairman. If anyone is going to pressure for success, it is the paymasters and between Ashfield & Brydens they control the board.

I think my post has been entirely misunderstood. In no way would i want this club to be like Parra. What i was referring to was the panic buttons they have hit when they finish 4th compared to our laissez faire attitude when we finish 11th.

Parra have let 11 players go (all off contract) and are "looking at" making changes in their coaching ranks. Wests Tigers have let 8 players go (all off contract), are reportedly trying to get rid of another three players that are still under Contract and have sacked pretty much all of their Assistant Coaches. Seems to me that the Tigers have been more proactive about making changes than Parra.

I was also only making note of the fact that there is no way that either members of WA, Wests Football Club or WT have any power whatsoever when it comes to electing either the board at WA or WT.

Thank God. Balmain & Wests have both been there and it didnt work, It is unstable and insecure and does not lead to investment (because moron fans can scrap everything at any point).

Jeez - I wonder if rooster would be keen for a jrey / flannel swap on current salaries...

You guys could really use his “enthusiasm”

Jack Hetherington signed a 2 year deal the Dogs .. 23 games and 5 different suspensions .. glad we missed him .. ;-)

IMHO, any extra (high) value contract shall have a clause -
the basic contract is on e.g. 400k, anything over that is paid if a player:
- meets his KPIs at least 80% of the year (e.g. 200k max);
- the team wins GF (100k);
- the team is in the top 4 (100k).

Hypothetically, we approach say JAC and we say, look we will offer you $600K but you only get $400 unless the rest of the team who hasnt made the semis in 10 years makes the top 4 and wins the comp.....but then the Dogs offer him $550K or $600K, guess where he goes.

I'd suggest that the Tigers are doing tough enough to attract high value players without getting uppity with demands.

No, if JAC meets his KPs for a year he would get 400 + 200 = 600k,
anything over that depends on the team and his contribution to the team success.
If we don't have a similar structure we risk we end up with Packers, JRs, Anastas, Blairs etc. paying extreme salaries.

On Reynolds, you'd think the club would pay $300k of his salary. I would also assume the dogs would pay $300k for an experienced half. Surely JR would sacrifice $150 - $200k to go back to his beloved dogs and play first grade...

How many JAC level players do you think we could attract to a club that hasnt made the semis for 10years with the threat that they might not get their full contract? How do you think that will pan out in a market with aggressive competitors like Bulldogs & Souffs?

We will have to pay overs to get anyone (fact of life). We need to be more selective to prevent Packers & Reynolds.

Would you sacrifice that money for no reason? I sure as hell wouldn’t. Footy is a short career and he won’t earn this much for the rest of his life most likely he’d be stupid to take a pay cut

By all reports he's doing well financially outside of footy. Playing first grade would also give him a better chance of extending his career.

And to answer your question, I would if I was in his shoes

Well enough to get rid of $200k in a single year? That’s still a lot of money. He would be stupid to leave and Take a pay cut for no reason

You forgot a release clause in the clubs favour every year.

Pretty sure the max value of the contract is own the cap, so it won't really work. we may pay less, but won't be able not spend it.

I don't really understand the hate on Reynolds and Packer.

This situation is not their fault, they're not up to standard anymore and will not/should not get picked if we don't need them/they don't improve. Ivan gave them these contracts, they have every right to see it out and work away at trying to come back into grade. If it doesn't happen, sucks for us and them.

Blame Ivan.

I agree . I don’t hate them , it’s just they’re albatross contracts . It is what it is. I hope the get every cent and set themselves up for life .
It’s kind of irrelevant now . This time next year and it will be a non issue . We will all be talking about Mbye isn’t a leader , Joe crap brooks is even if he wins dally m , and we make the finals , and the latest high profile Koori kid usually us as leverage to get to Souths .

So who here thinks Hetherington is worth over 450k a season?

That's crazy money for a 24 year old who's played 23 games.

People are saying Tamou is a plodder, by all reports we've signed him for less than Hetherington. He's currently starting prop and captain of the team where Hetherington can't crack first grade.
