alot of tim sheens on this forum, lets play brooks at fullback as well

I'm definately no Sheenuis ?, but do think we need to coach and mould our own talent, from within, to find the strongest team balance.

This forum is obsessed with buying in talent. Which is not sustainable and is the reason we are in our mess.

If we need a ball playing lock, why shouldn't we look at our current squad first?

To look within playing nines would be good. See what natural ball play skills some of the big boys have

Dont think theres a set formula for no 13...Storm are playing a 125kg giant to achieve more go forward,Panthers in Yeo play a large running forward,Souths have Murray as playmaker/runner etc
Theyre all very different, depending on what each team already has and what it needs.
in that context,Storm already have great playmakers at 9,6 and 7,so dont need another one,so the giant 13 makes sense..makes their go forward even more formidable, and allows them to play two wide running backrowers
Souths have a running 6 in Walker,so need a bit more from their 13
Unfortunately we need in our 13 both go forward AND ball playing atm
Am thinking that surely with Stefano and Tamou and maybe a fit Packer we have sufficient go forward to compete with the better teams? And if so,we can play a smaller player at 13
Arent sure whether we have one in the squad tho..?

McIntyre re-signing news incoming.

Looks like he just signed with a new management company too. Maybe that was the hold up? Hopefully an announcement soon if true.

Sam McIntyre could be a handle little ball playing lock but as you said we can only afford to do that if our other forwards get us big metres otherwise we just have to play a prop there.

What he wants and what I want are 2 different things.
I've still got a lot of faith in Liddle coming through with the goods, but if he really wants to play 9, then come on down.

Yeah agree. First time in a long time that my favourite player doesn't wear a tigers jersey.

Can we once and for all eradicate the words ‘ball playing lock’ from rugby league

This isn’t 1995

They

Don’t

Exist

ball playing lock is code for a forward that can pass.

Even twal passed it in the last game, its not rocket science.

We need go forward not half backs at 13

It’s a great concept but the position has changed.

How would you describe Radley/Murray?
Compared to third props Twal, Nelson, etc

You have to question if some of these posters are even Wests Tigers supporters. More like Daily Telegraph hacks having a sook for being called hacks.

I’m a lifelong supporter but cannot completely support our leadership /admin team,

I’m seeing some improvement but we’re still not where we need to be. Some things we still need addressed

(If we miss JAC) why can’t we attract true marquee talent?
I know we’re contractually bound to multiple home grounds but seriously, find a way
Why did we just fold on the Matterson contract? Look at Storm and JAC that’s how it’s done
Why didn’t we know Cleary wanted to coach his son when we signed him?

Some of these failures are being overlooked by one eyed fans;

I’ll give them credit, Madge, Luciano, Tamou and AD have given me some hope, but we need a big fish.

Fingers crossed this is a turning point, if not, it’s gotta be time for a clean out in front office.

It sure isnt easy supporting the club, but at this point in time they are doing better than any previous administration.

It was only Sheens who made us a legitimate club. Any other time in our history we have been a wreck.

Its easy to go all doom and gloom but things like comparing Matterson to Addo Carr dont really stack up. Lets see if the Storm still play tough after Addo Carr kicks stones and loses the support of his team mates. For sure and certain all the Storm boys still love the guy. Its apple and oranges to compare the two cases.

We are on the right track. Its just very hard to turn around the mess created by the Muppett and the Dog. (Taylor and Cleary)

To get us out of mediocrity I’d like to compare them against something other than our poorer administrators of the past. Surely there are administrators out there who could create a place people want to play, who can attract marquee players, and who can get us to a point where we have a home ground. All I’m saying is my patience with this lot is waning.

Its fair enough you dont like the current administration but all id say is that given the difficult situation we are in they are doing an ok job.

They arent why we finish 9th etc. Thats on the culture of the club as dictated by previous poor coaching.

Fix the culture and the suits can run the place as well as most clubs.

Murray’s best attribute is his running game. Radleys is his defence. Sure they pass every so often but that’s not their main job.

Locks need to get you up the field and tackle hard more than anything. Any of our forwards can throw a simple pass to our halves to create a bit more width.

Considering he’s with them now officially I’m assuming a deal with WT is very close or done like you said. Really handy little player

The last great ball playing lock was ET when he first came across from Penrith. Great link man for the halves. Already miss him.

He was so good when he first joined us. Added so much to our team

Really looking at all their top teams all their locks best skills are making metres and doing the tough stuff. Pretty much all the top 8 teams have locks who are big units who tackle and run hard

Obviously they need to be able to throw a pass but we don’t HAVE to have some small lock who is a ball player

On a side (and I know we are not supposed to be positive here but please forgive me) note, the recruitment of juniors really seems to have improved the last few years. Hope it pays of in the near future.

Thats the bit the media refuses to report. Maguire is building it from the ground up.

It will take time but its coming.

Its not all doom and gloom as the media make out.

The media feed off the fans discontent to some extent and this is why these posts are vital to keep some rational perspective.

Good points guys, thank you.

And as they say mate, "good news never made a paper sell".

Bet there were a helluva lot of papers sold when WW2 ended, that was good news!

That's not true... The lock position has evolved but a lock that is mobile, can step and pass is a huge asset. Any team that has a versatile lock that can do that, is much better for it.

I would classify Cameron Murray, Victor Radley and Jake Trbojevic (who switches between prop and lock) as mobile, ball playing modern day locks.

Freddy re-invented the lock position in the last 4 years of his career and I'd hate to see that evolution end.
