Gosh, they’re giving us a hiding in the media..

Brad Fittler is shocked that Wests couldn’t find a spot for Ryan Papenhuyzen at the club, stating the Tigers “got it wrong” on several decisions in recent years, per The Sydney Morning Herald.
Papenhuyzen, Josh Addo-Carr and James Tedesco will all come together for the first time as Blues players under Fittler on Thursday, having all departed Leichhardt in recent years.
Wests Tiger fans get constantly reminded about stars that got away, with some decisions the club have made in recent years amongst the worst.
Nine years without playing finals football and their Origin representative, Harry Grant, was on loan from the Storm.
Papenhuyzen was at Balmain before the 22-year-old chased his NRL dream with the Storm as Billy Slater was coming to the end of his career.
“I was disillusioned when the Wests Tigers couldn’t find a spot for him,” Fittler said of Papenhuyzen.
“There were a few [decisions] there where whatever they did during that period, it was just wrong.
“So someone got it wrong, whoever it was, and I don’t care.
“He [Papenhuyzen] has been awesome. Before the grand final I asked him, ‘Mate, how are you going to get your speed in with it being so wet?’
“And he just said, ‘I’ll find a way’. And when he took off for that [second-half] try … he found a way.”
Tedesco and Papenhuyzen both exited the club in 2017 and went on to win premiership silverware.
“I think that’s happened a lot,” said Tedesco, when asked about good players departing Concord. “Josh Addo-Carr has also won a few premierships now. But what can you do?”
Addo-Carr started at the Tigers but, like Papenhuyzen, left for Melbourne where he has won two titles.
The Tigers are now wanting to bring back Addo-Carr, who is hoping for a return home.
Addo-Carr said after the grand final he was bound for Sydney in 2021, but “no other team is like Melbourne”.
Papenhuyzen, who took out the Clive Churchill Medal on Sunday night, told the Herald he wouldn’t have been half the player he is today if he didn’t head to Melbourne.

There is nothing in that article to be upset about except WTs' inability to retain talent. I admit that is on the previous management and with Hartigan and Maguire at the helm we seem to be on a much better trajectory. PS I don't believe Fittler wrote the article.

Paws, that’s what I’m finding hard to understand? Why is WT an organisation which succeeds or fails on the back of a few personnel changes? There seems to be major upheaval when a position is vacated a lot of dominoes fall for some reason? An organisation will find gradual improvement difficult if it continues on this path of trying to reinvent itself.

This time with changes in important positions, we are witnessing changes to coaching staff and pathways. New blood, new ideas and the belief WTs is a sleeping powerhouse waiting for two or three intrepid individuals to take up the challenge.

The good news is I believe we are building the foundations for a dynasty of WTs' success. Plant the seeds through the identification and retention of our best local talent and recruit the best junior talent from elsewhere. Improve the training our juniors are exposed too and streamline pathways. Unfortunately all this takes time.

Here's my belief; the inner west of Sydney is a gold mine of talent. We need to get into the different communities to release its full potential. Look at the Australian Samoan and Lebanese communities. How many players of these backgrounds do we have?

Agree the talent is there in bus loads. Actively promoting RL and WT Is a great idea, so why haven’t we been doing it and will we stop doing it the next time 2 or 3 people resign.
We’re not talking rocket science, the principles of success remain the same..
Find a steady flow of talent.
Nurture and care.
Develop individual career paths.
Retain, train and improve performance.
Don’t stop!

Jesus this infatuation with Benji being let go on Facebook has hit fever pitch. Fans of the club even going so far to say that they hope Benji puts on a clinic against us next year if he has signed with the Cowboys.

Great committed fanbase we have.

It’s the casual fans who could probably only name like 3 or 4 players in our team, pretty laughable

We could sign Munster to replace Benji and they’d still cry foul

Was on the news tonight, still no release. Griffin apparently wants him to stay.

Griffin wants a replacement like Bellamy and JAC, that is the hold up, Saab getting pretty frustrated

I don't understand that at all. Imo Benji was great, but as a Wests Tiger player. Because he was a Wests Tigers player. The minute he dons another jersey and opposes us, he's an enemy. I mean he'll always be a Wests Tigers legend, and I hope he personally does well, just not against us.

No way would I ever hope he did well over us, at our detriment, to our expense. That I just don't understand.

If Fittler is saying he was "disillusioned" when Papenhauzen left the Tigers then he is a liar.

At the time it was a reserve grade player changing clubs as he couldn't crack first grade. I'd be gobsmacked if Fittler even raised an eyebrow.

In hindsight it may have turned out to be a mistake but there's no guarantee his career would have been on the same trajectory here and it's massive revisionism from Fittler to suggest he knew it was a mistake at the time.

Seems to be constant attacks on the Tigers from Fittler, actively starting to dislike him.

Agreed and he had to go.

But I question how our board could not negotiate a player swap with Stefano? He had already signed with us, he didn't really seem part of their plans (rcg had just signed) and we had a player they wanted.

That is worrying for me, that we didn't have the stones to get it done.

Instead, Stefano wasted a year of development. Para only gave him a hand full of minutes in a few games.

Getting pretty sick of Fittler. Can someone ask him why was Penrith so crap that he left them and what it says about that club? The hypocrite did a Tedesco.

Absolutely - don't do as I did, do as I think you should do.

Getting over him and Joey big time in the media. Just spruking crap to fit their own agendas.

I would never be happy seeing that turkey necked string bean smirk at anything. He is so full of himself - should be careful he might burst.

Just my view but not being a top 8 club, we are viewed as a soft touch. We were in it for the long term and won out. This was always the outcome as I'm sure the Eels did not expect this after the Matterson recruitment.

I'm more upset by the agreement even by some WTs' fans that he may not have had the same success if he stayed. That line of
thinking has to end. We want and need our juniors to believe they have the same success at WTs than at the Storm. The Storm have produced two juniors during their existence. Pretty pathetic in view of the cash poured into that club by the NRL.
