Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

None of this makes sense? Why are we chasing Roberts and Mansour? Dont worry about failures to sign or immediate success. We need to build and give our youth a chance.

I don’t understand a lot of the negativity surrounding our management and recruitment teams of late. I like what I see! Sure things haven’t turned out for us just yet, however, JAC offer was innovative, as was Mitchell’s - if true? Grant’s was a pearler, and I’m sure Robert’s and Mansour’s will be in our favour. Our management team are introducing new terms and conditions into contracts that have never been introduced before, that shows great initiative. I believe, Iike a few others on here, that we are definitely on the way up with the present management team. Go Weststigers!

Mansour on the cheap for a year or two would be fine. He and Tamou would certainly be a great example for our younger blokes and will help to set standards. ***I doubt Mansour would be starting every week***, rather creating competition for spots and if that was so, good. It won't block players at all, just make them earn their position.

Why the hell would we entertain a player that isnt good enough to get selected?

Sure they’re coming up with good deals but end of the day we need to sign good players and make finals, Mansour and Roberts aren’t good signings. We will be lucky to pick up another Luciano type signing cause that’s our only hope

He would play first grade for us. The reason he’s leaving Penrith is because he wasn’t gonna be first picked there

I was responding to @rihannafan1 post stating that they would sign Mansour, but he wouldnt block juniors because he probably wouldnt start in first grade each week. I cant follow the logic of signing someone not good enough to get picked, I understand that we need players 18-30 in the roster but they should be youngsters coming through not 30yo.

Dont get the mansour hate.

He would be in the top 2 wingers in our club - delusional to think otherwise. At the right price and length of contract it's a REALISTIC signing for our club.

James Roberts one of the most overrated players going around. On par with Matty Moylan hype!

Mansour again another oldie, never been the same since breaking his face.

Would avoid both...reeks of panic (ala - Cleary signing spree). Even this Saab fella I haven’t seen much of him but he doesn’t seem that good to be honest, aside from being tall.

Think we need to be patient (same old story) and make a huge play for a Staggs or a Burton or a Laurie. If we sign another “former rep player” then makes you think where are we headed...Need to be a current or future rep please. NMN!

Some people smh....
Whine about no speed, so we look at one of the fastest in the comp who can create out of nothing.
Still whine.
Worth a shot on a cheap contract. If he doesn't work out, we turf him.

Being cheap or in our favour does not makeup for lack of pace or defensive nous in Mansour's case. When will our club ever learn? I feel as a supporter we've been sold a lemon. Mansour is too slow. You can not have Nofoaluma and Mansour in the same team! The slowest wing combination in the history of slow wing combinations. That is before you even look at how the career paths of our young backs will be blocked.

Haha why on earth do we believe everything the media has to say , a lot of ppl on here say Dont believe what media says about who we have or have not signed and here we all are blowing up , too funny

The difference between this and the Cleary spree is that they wont be 4 year deals worth over 600k each.

If they are i give up

Do you actually believe what you've written? Being a top two winger at our club is no great achievement. Get over cheap, it does not mean quality because in the long run it costs you on the field and also off it as the junior talent walks out the door.

Roberts and Mansour would be bargain buys - no way the club is throwing $500k at them. I would also think the contract term would be no longer than 2 years.
Mansour is well respected - I don't like the idea of his signing though. If Roberts came at a steal, I would throw 2 years at him, especially with BJ potentially gone at seasons end. Roberts would have indigenous ties with Lawrie if he came aboard and may also attract others including JAC in 2022.
I don't agree with some of the comments about WT not learning from historical signings. They have definitely become more hard-nosed and won't bow to agent pressure. The innovation in contract dealings such as the Grant-Momo swap and the HoA with JAC stipulating different levels of salary based on which position he ended up playing for us are firsts in the game I believe. Management are doing ok.

I rate both of our current wingers above him and he is old and not getting better.

No you're right, we should sign JAC.....

Better still we should just rely on youth (Brisbane)

Agree that there is an upside with Roberts, not with Mansour

Yeah the only saving grace is that they wouldn’t be on crazy money

Exactly, he'd be on a third of what JAC would have been on. Worth a gamble I reckon, on a short term contract.
