Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sirro has been good for a few seasons but he does seem to get injured alot - and if Manly were even considering letting him go I think it would be for that reason only.

Assuming Aloiai and Garner go and we get Joe O & Siro
We have lost 5 back rowers in McIntyre, McQueen, Taylor, Lawrence & Garner
New back rowers are one of our development kids and maybe Siro
We’ve also overall lost 11 players, 9 forwards and 2 backs
Currently replaced by 4 backs and 5 forwards
2 development, Jimmy & Momo
2 development, Tamou, Joe O & Siro
Guess the last two need to be back rowers to keep some sort of squad balance

We did zero with the five we lost something had to change and it has and I would say for the better.

Don’t disagree but the guys leaving played quite a bit so need some replacing

From 20 possible games
Lawrence 13 games most at centre
Luke Garner 17
Elijah Taylor 11
McIntyre 12
McQueen 1

Thanks Curly for the summary.
You're right, we are definitely thin now on second rowers, I didn't realise it was that skewed.

Providing Joe plays 13 , how many back rowers would we need if according to some we have ,LL ,Blore,Sirro ,Chee kam

MCK is a passenger IMO

Yes except for those odd moments when he suddenly becomes a match winner for us.

Yeah! twice in 4 years - nowhere near good enough.

Unless I've missed something, it doesn't seem as if Garner is going or Sirro is coming.
Personally, I'm not fussed either way.

They were pretty great moments though ? I thought he had a solid 2019, this year did basically nothing.

I think we may be slightly ahead but there is a lot of risk in the gains and losses.

Roberts potentially is exactly what we need but I have no confidence that he is going to perform throughout the season. Defensively he is also terrible. He is low cost so it's a great signing but when it comes to performing next season we can't be relying on this guy.

Tamou is a good signing. DL may be a good signing but you need to give him time and see if he is up to it plus it's for next year.

JO for Aloiai to me is a backwards step.

I suppose if Tamou and JO make up for losing Aloiai and the Huth it's break even with the potential for Roberts to add a lot to the team. I can't call that getting ahead.

One thing is though we've lost McQueen and we have one more year with Reynolds and Packer on the books. Losing those guys is big for us. We can use Mbye as well. Maybe he does a decent job at fullback. He can go the following year and if we keep managing the contracts that we offer to players so that we are getting the right players I can see improvement coming over the next couple of seasons.

If you want to look for hope it's there. Guys like Kepaoa, Blore, Utoikamanu and Talau have the talent and athleticism to take a big step up. The combination of Doueihi at 5/8 and Mbye at fullback has shown some promise (in a very limited sample). We won't have one of the leakiest defensive combinations of 2020 in Marshall and Garner on the park together (and we may not have either at all). If Twal bounces back from injury we'll have a solid set of middles with him, Tamou, JO, Musgrove, Mikaele and Utoikamanu.
...or none of that may come off and we may have an ordinary season. But for now I'd prefer to hope for a better season than 2020.

There is plenty to like that is why I'm happy with the way the club is developing. I don't expect miracles. I can't make the team win the comp based on my supporting or not supporting them. I don't see anyone doing a bad job.

We are at last signing the right type of players. Blore could be anything. Stef might be quality. AJ is great. AD has something special. LL is great.

We need a lot of players to have massive improvements if we are to have a good year. We are building well though.

Have you read the thread? 18 out of 20 games this year and 22 out of 25 the year before. That's not bad.

If we get Sironen I reckon we look a lot better. The only issue is where do we play Blore. I reckon it'd be good to give Blore 1/2 game at lock all season but I'm not sure if this is the right thing for the kid.

Blore will come off the bench regardless of we get Siro or not. There’s no rush to put him in the starting side.

Lot of 2nd Rowers there. Get Siro and keep Garner is the solution.

I’d be happy if the club could offload Garner as well as garlic sauce. If Joe and Siro come on board, idk if I’d even have Garner in the 17.

Obviously not. I don't read every thread to form an opinion can do that on my own - right or wrong. And I still believe that Manly would not even contemplate letting Sirro go if there weren't concerns over his body. Despite how many games he has lined up in watch how much attention he gets from the trainers on the field.

I agree but I assume we then play him in the middle. I reckon they are going to try and play each edge backrower for 80 minutes. You can't really expect Blore to do that this season though.

I wouldn't. So letting Garner and Aloiai go to get Siro to me would be fine. The point being we'd be in a better position. I reckon that is a good trade for Manly as well.

MCK is actually a fine bench second rower if he's used properly. Thing is Madge was playing him as either a middle third forward or a centre when he's clearly neither of those. Plop him on an edge with a half that can give him early ball and he can be very dangerous.

As long as we have either Garner or Sirro we should be okay. That said I’d prefer we got Sirro due to his better defence.

We need depth in this position, but we also need enough space for Blore to force his way in the starting team as it’s only a matter of time IMO.

I honestly don't care how much attention they get from trainers if they are playing the majority of games without playing busted. He has obviously done that.

Then I don't expect Des would be dumb enough to let him go considering their efforts to strengthen their forward pack and his current form.

I would, they just offered Josh Aloiai $600k plus
