Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Mansour is a s good as Nofo, Nofo has had one good season.
A wing combo of Nofo and Mansour is not too bad if we do get D Laurie early and he plays 1
1. Laurie
2. Nofo
3. Joey L
4. Roberts
5. Mansour
6. AD
7. Brooks

Depth
AJ
Momo
Talau
Kei
Risk

I'd prefer to use our depth than sign Mansour.

Those centres and wings are too old!!! Balance is required

To anyone panicking mansour would block any bodies path is just worried over nothing. Madge has proven time and again that if you are better you’ll get picked. Just means when they get their chance they have to take it. McIntyre example. Seyfarth didn’t but obviously has got another chance contract wise

Then what's the point of signing him? He will still cost money and it won't be a 1 year contract. Seems like a waste of money and a waste of a spot.

This is very unlike the other Maguire/Hartigan signings. This one I don't understand.

Maybe maths is not my strongest subject, but if WT offered JAC $600K a season with an upgrade to $800K if he played most of his games at FB.
So I’m wondering how the Bulldogs $500K a season over 4 years “blew WT offer away”.
Just more Pox Sports and Telecrap fabricating.
Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I think we’re missing the point here? JAC actually got an offer from dogs, that’s more than Latrell was able to do. They both came to WT first to get the quasi auction underway. This unfortunately is a reflection of the way we have been perceived as a club.
But it also doesn’t do those players or their managers any favours. JAC now has the same manager as Cody Walker, after telling the media he would manage himself.

You've got to remember Mansour is on about 600k next season. There's a reason Panthers want him gone. I would only offer him max one year at 150k, and have him as backup in CC. But even that's a complete and utter waste of a precious squad position.
We don't need Mansour. He offers nothing that we need or want. And he goes in the exact opposite direction of everything Madge and Hartigan are trying to build.
If we sign Mansour we will definitely lose one of our youngsters, likely immediately too. It's just not worth it when he's just a crappier version of Nof, whom we also have limited value for. But Nof > Mansour

The Daily Telegraphreported that Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis said that the club was now out of the running.
“We are only interested in engaging with players who want to come and play for us,” he said. “And if the perception is the player doesn’t wish to come to the Wests Tigers because their manager doesn’t engage with us, well, that is fine by us. I am not going to lose any sleep over it and we move on to greener pastures.”

If he said this well done.

But that can't be the end of it .....why again have we out offered on 2 players and missed out ...as Toovs has said we need to investigate this

I think the complete opposite. Why would you investigate this ? What is there to investigate ? It's like trying to investigate why people do stupid stuff every day of the week.

We enter negotiations in good faith with the right types of players. As soon as that good faith passes we need to move on.

We need to be professional and part of that is not catastrophising these types of issues.

So when do we draw a line in the sand .....or do we just accept it and move on ......so if we are in the same boat in 3 years time ...5 years time

Also the quote from Lee above is very different to teh quote the club unoffically put out for Lee yesterday. About being in the water. Never did he say anything about not being interested in players not wanting to join us.
Was this paraphrased by another D grade journalist or did he release an updated quote at some point?

David Riccio reporting that we're now going to fast track our pursuit for Mansour with JAC no longer in the picture. I hope he's wrong, would be a poor signing imo.

Gross. Don’t see why we need him really, sure we could use a winger but not a 30 year old who will block junior development.

I'd much rather play Kepaoa there. Mansour isn't fast and isn't very good. Would be a big mistake. Let Penrith hang on to Laurie for another year, no rush.

Same here. I don't want Mansour at the club. To me he is the wrong type of signing.

It would be another desperation signing

There are a couple of big fast backs we have signed i would rather promote youth then buy discards, plus your helping Penrith with their salary cap'.They want to retain Crichton, why help them?

I wouldn’t pay more than 300k for Mansour, that’s the max imo - idc what anyone says but Josh Mansour on 300k is good value

Well done Lee on have a comment re JAC and being quoted like that. We have cash, we want the best and we want the right type of players in our club. We are showing clear intent to improve our roster.

Re Mansour if we get him cheap and Laurie comes a year early then I’m for it. The Panthers will pay some frieght for 21.

Based on recent moves it’s clear we won’t pay overs and would be confident Mansour wouldn’t be on overs. With our young kids he also would provide some great experience which we saw this year at the Panthers.

It’s very clear we lack a true winger as well which he eliminates a problem for us. It’s not the Fox but he isn’t terrible and would improve us.

That's just the wrong mindset. Mansour is not cheap as he will block the path of our juniors and we have many good young ones. The opportunity cost of Mansour is one or two of our good juniors who'll leave, as Stefano did at the Eels due to RCG and. Paulo being purchased. We are not a retirement home and we already have a slow winger who can't defend.

I watched the sauce play a couple times this year and can say unequivocally that we should not sign him for any money, the bloke is shot.
Not only has the game moved past him (far too short for a winger these days) but he doesn't play with the same strength and aggression that got him into a Blues Jersey.
Seems like a good bloke, but I'm more than happy for him to be a good bloke anywhere else.

Lee is drawing a line in the sand with his comments.

We've been professional. Now we move on. It's going to be pretty clear if you come to us and want a good contract we are willing to play ball. If you are playing games or want massive overs see you later.

Lets be honest Momo and Doeihi were panick buys. Both are too slow for the backline.Nice guys but unless sprint training adds a couple of yards i can;t see a long term future in 1st grade.

Older player, big dollars and a long term contract. In a team that lacks speed he is a slow winger. I can only see them getting him as another option to play fullback but I don't think that would work.

I'm hopeful based on our latest signings if we do sign him it won't be that bad but I don't see why we would bother.

I don’t know why people think they’d give us Laurie earlier if we took Mansour. In fact taking Mansour probably makes it more likely they keep Laurie as extra depth, possibly upgrade him to top 30 for a year.

I rate Doueihi. I reckon he will be one of our best players next season. Momo is an average player who slots well into a top team on lower dollars with stars around him. I doubt Momo is being paid big dollars.

Again we would really need to question the club if we signed him ...the signing would reek of the signings of Reynolds and Mbye ...The signing of Packer turned out to be bad ,,but based on his form at the time it was good

Morning Earl. Yes Doeihi has talent,a tricky runner and good hands.I;m not sure that is enough in todays game.We have evolved as a game, its now about speed and power.
