Edene Gebbie is on a development contract with West Tigers. The PNG Hunters coach Matt Church confirmed that Gebbie is not among the Hunters contingent to relocate to Queensland to participate in the Intrust Super Cup competition.

Church confirmed he is in contact with West Tigers officials to see how can he assist in Gebbie's fitness during the transition.

This should be a welcoming news for Tigers fans who have been advocating for Gebbie's inclusion in our 2021 roster. He gives a lot of options in the backline (fullback, wing & center).

I think it's train and trial not development yet and I did tell him it's Wests..

He will be here for 2021.

Yeah starting on a Train and trial contract, looking at a development contract for 21.

The guy’s 25 and will be 26 for God’s sake. If he gets a development contract it makes a mockery of developing youth. If he was going to develop he should have done it by now.

It is a different situation with him being from PNG, Tyson Gamble was on a development contract with Brisbane this year.

Not really, in Gebbies situation he has a lot to work on before he is genuinely ready for a top 30 spot but these are improvements he should make.

I think Tahu will be a great addition to the club and has a lot to pass onto the younger players. He also has a lot to offer someone living away from family and getting used to living in Sydney.

Gebbie is very rough around the edges and having someone the class of Tahu around will be a benefit to someone like Gebbie.


Doesnt make any sense to me. Im sure Timana is a great bloke but just having him around will make Gebe a better player and person?

Wow........should have had magic Timana around years ago, who would have known all those years ago thats all you need.

Timana has as much idea about PNG culture that I do.

Has nothing to do with PNG culture? No idea why you went there when it had nothing to with my post. He has been brought in to work with the outside backs and is rated highly so I think he will be great for someone at Gebbies stage of development.

If you guys just followed the secret you'd realise how to fan. The trick is to attract good things by just perceiving them into existence. Like I did with the 2005 Grand Final run. I just dropped copious acid and went on a several month journey into psychosis and watched Tigers games like they were video games on easy mode. The Tigers only stopped doing well when I reclaimed my sanity. Who's up for another journey into the dark void with me for a 2021 premiership run?

I would guess that we would still be paying $250k and he is getting $500k from Hull.

That does make sense, but if Dan knew those details that is a cryptic way of telling us.

Just looks like a natural footballer....great awareness, good footwork, decent speed, strong upper body....he has all the ingredients to succeed. Would be really happy if this came to fruition.

Communication in PNG is problematic so contacting Edene may have been challenging. It may be too hard for some clubs requiring the allocation of dedicated resources with no guarantee of success. Fortunately the Club has arranged for Tahu to mentor him.

Unless you have lived or spent some time in PNG, it is difficult to appreciate the challenges Edene faces in adapting to life in a developed society. Infrastructure in PNG is limited, many PNG nationals live in villages where electricity, running water, health care and education are luxuries. Malaria is endemic as is dengue and I recall 7 locals were dying a week from snake bite. They have the hooded Taipan in PNG. Try playing football bare foot with Malaria. Malaria is the worst feeling in the world.
