Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Tamou inked a two-year deal with the Tigers in September, and knew the Panthers would struggle to retain all their talent.

He said Crichton, who is holding out for a better three-year deal, was worth every penny. He also hoped ''freak'' Laurie - and Josh Mansour - would be released and given the chance to join him at the Tigers a year early.

Very very impressive attitude from Tamou.
It’s exactly the leader we need for our club.
Hopefully we can snag Critchen from the Panthers as well.

I am not sure if we really need Mansour, our backline (minus fullback) is full of experience Roberts, Leilua, Nofa...I think Talau nabs the other centre spot with Momo as backup...

Money needs to be invested in fullback or halfback...

The only way i’d sign Mansour is if the club has plans for Talau to play FB.

Less likely if we help them out with Mansour

Our spine on paper is the worst in the NRL, find me a worse one

Bulldogs, Titans, Dragons, Warriors...

You can't be serious
Hoppa, Brimson, Dufty and Roger are all a million times better fullbacks than M'Bye
Whilst I like and rate AD he's unproven at 6 yet. Burton (maybe 2022), Norman, Taylor (playing 6 outside of a controlling 7) and Harris-Tevita are all more proven 6's
I'd have any of Flanagan, Fogerty, Hunt or Kodi Nikorima instead of Brooks
And lastly at hooker we are ahead of the dogs, probably on par with Titans and Warriors with Rein and Jazz Tevanga and miles behind the Dragons with McInnis

I can't believe how everyone now rates Ash Taylor - the guy has been hopeless for years. And suddenly Fogarty is the new messiah that will transform the Titans. And all this is based on a 5 game winning streak against the dragons, bulldogs, broncos, sea eagles and knights. I'll reserve my judgement on them as a halves combination unti midway through 2021.

He seems a good bloke too.

I think madge doesn’t mind a veteran winger and he knows how to pick them (lote).

I think beyond the preconceived opinions of him on here you will find he has more upside than AJ.

https://youtu.be/uH1hlrEAjV4

More upside than AJ? Seriously, how?

AJ had like 4 or 5 games while showed improvement hasn’t totally proven himself.

Mansour has established himself played finals and still got it.

Pretty clear I thought

As clear as a mirror smeared with Vaseline.

I think mirror mirror on the wall says that mansour is no good no more

Buying mansour helps Penrith keep Critchdon, can;t you guys see that ?

Do you think we are a realistic chance of signing him? We offered more money for LM and JAC than any other club could and came up empty. I can't see anything changing until we start to have some success on the field.

If Panthers heavily subsidised the deal and release Laurie early I'm onboard with taking Mansour. He won't hurt our depth. There is bound to be injuries or players dropped for under-performance. It also sets our roster and with the leftover money in the bank we can front end some contracts giving us an amazing advantage coming into 2022, especially when more money becomes available.

With the abundance of young talented players, Panthers had no choice but to start shedding older players. WT need to be careful which of them are a good fit. Mansour may be an inspirational guy to have around the joint but atm we need AJ or Crichton more imo.

I'm not sold on AJ like the rest of you are and Crichton is a fantasy signing. In contrast Laurie is a natural FB and not a makeshift one and Mansour is a proven international.

Mansour is a proven international.

5 years ago maybe.

It’s like signing Tim Grant and saying he’s a proven origin player

Getting B.Smith will be the difference between us being a top 4 side or being a bottom 8 side for the next 10 years.
Imo we can't wait 3yrs to see if one of our current 9s is a rep player then go looking for one if they're not.

This is the biggest get the club could pull off for a long time

Disagree - he is not as good a DH as Liddle - good at a lot of other things but his passing from the ruck is rank.

Thats why he plays for NZ and Liddle struggles to make a side that has finished out of the 8 for 2 decades

If you think Smiths passing from the ruck, or speed from the ruck is better than Liddle - you are delusional.

Besides Liddle can't play for NZ - he is not a NZ'er.

If you think Liddle is a better player you're beyond delusional

So why has he played for the jr Kiwis, New Zealand and New Zealand Maori if he's not a Kiwi?

Liddle was an Aust Schoolboy star. He has been sought after by Manly, Canterbury and ironically the Storm but always stuck with WTs. Smith is a fine player but more a running and impact forward. Liddle has a great pass from dummy half and is super quick.

Lot's of Australian schoolboy stars now laying pipes on the side of the road. Schoolboy stars are a dime a dozen and don't matter once you hit the NRL.
I have a great pass and I'm super quick too.
I'll take Smith over Liddle in any position, different league of player.

But Liddle isn't laying pipes or digging ditches. To come back from such a severe injury and perform so well is a high achievement. Comparing Liddle and Smith won't get you far as they are different types of player. If Smith were at our club there is every indication he would be played from the interchange as a running impact forward. Liddle and Simpkin would still be our hookers.

For me, Liddle is a future Captain. He is articulate and in every interview I have heard, he is impressive.

I’m not seeing it with Liddle. In my opinion hd has been prone to injury and shows flashes at best. Haven’t seen him play an 80 minute game where I’d say he was man of the match. Mbye is good in front of a microphone too.

You'll eat your words with Liddle. Every great attacking move this season will start from a 10/10 spiral pass out in front to the first receiver from dummy half. He's not quite Aaron Smith (All Blacks) good on the ground pass, but he's as close as I've seen in this era of NRL.

He had good service but so does any half decent hooker. I hope he can do a whole lot more than just pass off the ground, all the best hookers in the game right now are all over the field.

I think Liddle is a good player. I also think he gets over hyped a lot on the forum. His defence is a little iffy and he has an error in him, want to see more of his running game too. In saying that if he stays on the field this year he’ll be good for us I reckon. He’s got all the attributes to be a real good hooker just needs to put it all together, hopefully he learned off Harry

Me too and Melbourne are hoping he taught Harry how to assess and pass (he is one of the top 5 in the NRL at this imo).

Harry’s passing is fantastic. Plenty of times he creates tries with nice cutout passes to our backs

Benji is also a proven international. Why should we not sign younger faster , more enthused players looking to establish their career? A player like Laurie is a great signing, there should be more Laurie’s signed. Crichton is one of those. He can play FB while we wait for Laurie and our centres to sort themselves out?

If it meant getting Laurie a year earlier I would take Marshall back

My two cents.
If you can get cheese you do but you don't morgage the farm. We have two good hookers woth potential but neither is cheese yet. So if we can get him with in our budget you do if not oh well.
I like mansauce but feel like if we take him we will lose talau. His spot imo is wing this year and centre if one of of two biggens fails. He has shown he is good enough and shouldn't spend the year in reggies.
Leaders lead and tamou has shown that already turning up 3 weeks early cap no question for mine

You would only possibly consider Mansour if it meant Chrichton and Laurie which would mean Mansour would be even further down the pecking order than he is at Penrith.

Doesn't matter he is a specialist winger, imagine playing both Nof and Mansour on both wings. Every single team would have a field day with kicks either side of the field. Everyone was complaining about our lack of height all year and now we want two short wingers?

I think Rob Jennings would have looked good on the end of that backline to be honest.
